Updating the VW SD card on my 2017 Golf GTD, using a Laptop.
I have found this the easiest way to update the maps and is very easy to do as long as you download the correct maps from the VW Website below...
app-connect.volkswagen.com/ma...
Method as per video.
1. In the car go into the Sat Nav on the Infotainment system then settings, then look for the map version date which tells you the year of the last maps. Mine were 2016/17
2. Turn off the ignition and remove the Navigation card from the head unit in the glove compartment.
3. Take the card to a PC or Laptop and make a full back up, there should only be one folder on it called MAPS. The back up is in case an error occurs and you can return the cardto its formere state. NEVER format the VW SD card.
4. Go to the VW website above, choose your Car, then type of Infotainment system, then choose which group of maps you want... I did europe 2 as it is a relatively small file 6.7M
5 Once downloaded use 7-Zip to open archive then extract the Maps folder to your hard drive.
6. Insert the VW SD card and look at the file structure, mine only had 1 folder called Maps. Do not Format this card, only delete the whole map folder.
7. Once deleted you can then drag and drop the NEW MAP folder you just extracted from the Zip and wait for it to copy across - it can take a while
8. Take the card back to your car and insert into the head unit, the maps should be updated and the Sat Nav should be fully operational..
