Harry does your MK7 have 3 holes for at the front and if so which one did you use? The middle on mine has a thread which is surely going to get stripped if used? Also what did you set the sliders too? It says 41.5 in the instructions but this seems way to narrow. Cheers!!!!!!!

Which bike carrier is that? The reason I ask is most of them have a weight limit of circa 20kg. I have a specialised Levo and I had to buy the Thule Thruride where you take the front wheel off and also take the battery out. I have heard of people having problems with ebikes on the standard roof carriers.

Looking forward to the vid of the ride! Heh, I bought used Thule Aero bars for my "black" Lamborgauxhall Astra Estate last year. Only cost me 3 gallons of diesel and 40 squids for the bars, plus the Exodus clamps from Halfords. The estate already has side bars, which make the roof bar feet a bit cheaper. So around £105 all in. Whereas the Thule system looks at £240, if you buy it all in store. I get a whistling from the roof bars though, so I'll be plugging the under/slots with some offcuts from foam mats. Just leave a small hole for any spiders to escape if they're in there. If the bars still whistle, I'll just turn me hearing aids down a little. Oh yeah, the bars are because I sometimes carry a windsurf board.

Does anyone know if BMX style "Turn down" is possible on a jump bike?? I know 26in wheel just barely clears a rider's pedal and foot with 165mm crank arms with "bar spins" but that's just cause when pinching the bike your front foot and crank arm rise a little bit allowing the clearance. I don't think I've ever seen a proper bmx style "turn down" on a jump bike bwfore.

Had the Thule kit for my MK7 golf and it didn’t have those rear clamps in the window rubbers. It had a short roof kit which was much better. If I’d known you were doing this, I’d have given you the full roof rack. It’s in my garage not being used. Aero bars too.

Are you sure that the bike doesn't exceed the weight limit for the individual bike carrier (i.e. not the overall weight limit for the roof)??? They're usually 20kg each

Get a ghost immobiliser on it to stop it being knicked, i’d recommend Bellmans Auto Electronics in Sheffield, they can also show you whats best to do with a Mk7 R, they have a 611bhp one. Think its fastest in the UK with a stock block, which is now waiting for a RS3 swap for more power 😎

I would of given you my bike rack it’s Thule as well with two bike racks and the aero bars so you don’t get a whistle from the wind when you drive.

You should be using the T bolts to join the racks and clamps

Should have gone for the tule 565 fork mount to prevent damage to your carbon down tube

Well done Harry. Now after every ride, your roof will have big clumps of mud stuck to it. You should have forgot about trying to be a cheapskate, and got a tow-bar and tow-bar mounted bike carrier.
