In this video I take you through my process of rectifying the steering assist and traction control warning lights. This could be the cause of your issue. #VWGolf #SteeringAngleFault #WhatsWrongWithThisOne?
Nice one, i have a 2017 Tiguan. These traction control lights flash up regularly. One of the faults my mate mentioned was a steering sensor fault. Maybe o should check the abs rings on the bearings? What do you think?
From my experience of newer VAG vehicles, wheel speed sensors are a common failure. They cause traction control light, TPMS light, ABS light and sometimes the steering assist light to come on.
I hit a rough patch on the roadside and damaged the front left shock absorber and got the traction control and flat Tyre monitor steadily on for a day or two. Changed the shocks and rear stabilizers. Drove around for a while and the warning lights are now gone. Have not gone back to the mechanic to check if the steering angle sensor error is gone. It said steering angle sensor mechanical fault. Will check it again just to be sure. My car is a VW touran 1.4tsi (2009)
Can you tell me what is the reason for the yellow steering light on the indicator? My vehicle gives 00778 steering assist g85 defective fault. I changed the g85 sensor, still not fixed
Usually to indicate a fault with the steering assist. Have the faults now cleared with the new sensor fitted? If so you may need to carry out basics settings for the steering angle sensor.
Hey I'm glad I caught this video So I just did a MK6 steering wheel swap on my mk5 gti and used the original clockspring (same part# as mk6 CS) Put everything back together now I have codes for steering angle sensor and the steering angle sensor cannot be reached took it all apart put it back together again same errors g85 cannot be reached. Car drives perfect all buttons work on wheel I have power steering. Tried to do this procedure and it didn't work still do you know what could be the issue I'm pretty sure my rear hubs are good
Can you view live data on your diagnostic tool. I'd start by seeing what the steering angle sensor is reading when the steering wheel is straight and the wheels are pointing dead ahead. I think you can view it through ABS as well as the steering assist module. Did you change the steering wheel with the road wheels facing forward. The clock spring didn't move at all during the change?
@@Papa77sGarage Yes the vcds cannot contact steering angle sensor at all. I did have wheels facing forward didn't move around the spring. I think I may have found my problem. I have a CD SWCM and need a CH due to the steering angle sensor being different than my original BG SWCM
@@dashing2293 Did you get this issue sorted? I just swapped a 2010 Passat wheel (multi-function) to my 2007 Eos, along with a CH module, but can't clear those faults via calibration. Haven't tried this exact procedure in this video (but have tried turning to right/left full lock and center), but I'm unsure if the calibration requires a VCDS or not. I only have OBDEleven.
@jarilehtinen81 yes I got it fixed turned out to be the actual wheel speed sensor that was messed up. And for some reason that caused the steering light to stay on and not be calibrated
dude. i have a fault or a short in voltage supply to the terminal that powers my steering angle sensor. its really impossible to even identify this wire much less find the fault or short.
This is happening to my MK5 golf 1.9TDI. mechanic changed the steering angle and that didnt work. Then he looked at the bearings and saw they had rust so changed them. Now the fault can clear on the laptop but comes back. Doing the procedure over and over and it doesn't work. Any ideas?
If the warning light is coming in then it should be logging a fault in the steering assist or ABS unit. First thing is to find out the cause of this fault. There is obviously another issue that's not allowing the basic settings procedure to be completed. What is the fault you are getting?
@@Papa77sGarage its fault code 00778 , steering angle sensor fault . No or incorrect basic settings. My mechanic wants me to get the tracking done and try again to calibrate. What do you think?
@@deadman5152 sometimes that causes it. Is the tracking noticeably out? You can do the basic settings through the steering assist or ABS unit. I found it a lot easier to follow through the ABS unit, it seemed to give a more accurate description of the procedure. That might be worth a try if it hasn't been done already.
@@Papa77sGarage I dont think its noticeably out, but I'm bringing it to a tyre centre near by that has a high end tracking machine. They have the best reputation around. I can get the laptop off the mechanic and try this. When you say the ABS unit , is that basically what you done on the video?
There must be a reason. Have you checked the components I had issues with in this video? Rear wheel bearings with the main issue. What fault codes do you have. In theory you shouldn't need a diagnostic tool to carry out the procedure. I was using the snap on solus ultra and it wasn't the tool carrying out the basic settings. The tool was just walking me through the manual procedure.
Unrelated question but how long would you expect valve stem seals to last? Got a j20a suzuki that's puffing blue smoke at startup. Only 74000 miles. FSH before i got it. I don't know what would cause them to wear so quickly. Any ideas? Cheers mate!
@@Papa77sGarage thanks mate! I can do an oil and filter/sparks/brakes etc but a top end rebuild is beyond me. Guess I'll just check the oil religiously and run it till something serious happens and put a second hand engine in
I've found myself browsing the Ross Tech wiki pages several times. Highly recommended information and I've no doubts about the VAG COM. When the funds allow it I may look into it.
Yes definitely worth a look I'm going to have to get one because I've just done something stupid bought myself a 2004 54 VW Touareg V10 TDI I don't think I'm too far up the road from you either I'm up in Northumberland...
