In this video we are going to show you how to remove and replace the tensioner pulley on Vw Jetta MK4 1.8T Engine. It will also be the same for VW Golf mk4 1.8 and Seat Leon 1.8 Seat Ibiza 1.8, Seat Toledo 1.8t
It is not very complicated procedure and we recommend to inspect you belt for cracks. If it has some wear replace it.

how do you know if its time to change the tensioner pulley ?as in when it should be replaced with a new one?

+NekAli Gaming every 60-80k miles I usually replace the serpentine belt and the idler and tensioner pulley.

The top part of the tensioner that you grab with the wrench has broken off. I have nothing to grab on to loosen the tension. Any advice?

Cut the belt off and unbolt the tensioner, replace both.

Trevor Hyer No I haven't, I did the timing belt job and everything good except for the alignment of serpentine. I think im going to try and change the tensioner pulley

Michael Monkoski so I was running it like that for a week, and took the tensioner pulley off again and noticed it was peeling the pulley disc, not a good idea to run it like that! So once removed, I put the tensioner pulley on again, make sure the metal bar that goes between the two top bolts are there, and I only screwed the top two bolts real nice and put the belt on. And it seemed to be aligned since then. Ive been driving like that no problems but thats because I really need to. Havent had the chance to put the third bottom bolt on and experiment with it.

Saul montiel ok there's a bar thats between the top two bolts ? What does it look like my car i didnt see anything maybe thats my problem that I'm missing that piece lol

@@sarar7696 no, I just torque it as tight as possible. next time I will change the assembly, not just the bearing. I don't know if I still kept this car. 😂

@@yiranjack I literally am torquing them as I write this! I just remembered to check if you’d seen my comment. I’ve seen 18 ft lbs so I am going with that 🤷🏻‍♀️ thanks for responding!

@@sarar7696 it has bearing sleeve which will prevent you from torque too much. I actually striped my torx screw🤣but like I said it doesn't matter, next time new assembly.
