Next time, I recommend that you ream the hole before cutting the end of the tube off...that way the original bore will help you keep everything in line as it easy to get it out of line using the drill while sat on the floor. Great video though, keep up the good work
Hey mate you are definitely my favourite VW channel to watch and possibly my favourite RU-vid channel but Sarah N Tuned is great too, so maybe it's a tie. I've gained heaps from your efforts so please keep it up. Much appreciation from the land down under!
That is most likely an inexpensive reamer and its good you got great results...However... There is a better way to use it. The typical method is to adjust it so it is slightly too small, take a pass, then increase the diameter and the cut slowly. In your case maybe 7-10 passes or more to do a 1/8" cut. You creep up on the press fit tolerances that you need. The result will be very round holes with uniform and parallel sides. Your reamer will also last a lot longer too.
Yes. this adjustable reamer was pretty cheap compared to something pro level. This was definitely my first time venturing into something like this and was pretty happy with the results considering. That is some good info there and 100% correct on making multiple passes... live and learn my friend.
@@JWClassicVW Thank you for putting yourself out there with a great subject and successful channel. It is not easy to do and takes great effort. Keep going, we are all learning from the work you are doing. I learned to use a reamer on bicycle seat tubes. I build custom bicycle frames and after welding the seat tube where the seat post enters, it is not to size and loses its roundness so you have to open it up again. Its a high precision operation to +- 0.02". Another tip with the reamer is to be very careful when adjusting or when disassembling them for cleaning. The blades are high carbon steel and very brittle. If you drop one, chances are it will break...ask me how I know! So adjustments should be 1/8 turn at a time.
Yes I kept the needle bearing, these are far superior "in my opinion" to the poly type inserts. There are some other bushing made of Delrin that are pretty nice.
I appreciate your reply. It’s hard to decide what to replace my chopped beam with. I like the CB performance 2” narrowed with needle bearings and I like the Airkewld 4” narrowed but the bummer is no needle bearings
Just got a 4” narrowed beam I haven’t done this before can I use the same stock trilling control arms with my 4” beam ? Like I say in new to do this I also get a pair of 2” 1/2 drop spindles somebody tell me don’t to install those cause the bug will be on the floor so I think I will just install the beam mistakes jajajaja hope this turns up well
Hey brother thanks for the question... and as for using your stock torsion arms, YES! Great question to, I'm sure lot's of people have that one. As for the drop spindles, you can use those to, even if your new beam isn't adjustable. The reason why people narrow the beam is to fit the tires under the fenders when using drop spindles. Would love to see some pics... Join the Facebook group and share!
Definitely not the original, it was an Empi 2 inch narrowed beam but I cut another 1.5 inches off both sides so now it's more like a 3.5 inch narrowed beam.
It is the 2" narrowed front stabilizer from CIP1, I just cut it down on both sides to get it to fit. Also had to use ratcheting straps to pull it into place. A little scary but worked... didn't video that because I don't want people killing themselves...lol
This was needed for my VW because of the added offset added with the new front disc brakes. The narrowed beam allows the wheels and tires to fit under the fenders correctly.
dude I looked at a hundred sites for that tool ordered 2 different ones which ill send back now that you showed this. bitchen bud. for that I subed ya I gotta 61 double
@@JWClassicVW yes i like your videos that's educational for VW enthusiast i like and have video in my files thank again i will be waiting for other episodes
I will be busy with a mexican engine 1600 fuel injection to start Brake & lines new be made flywheel 4 to 8 dowel heavy duty press plate and header all that's to begin after a chemo therapy mean while change the fenders
@@JWClassicVW cut how or is there a video i should go looking for . . . I'm swapping out my beam for a 4" narrowed beam and i want to run a swau bar also.
There is no video on it brother... wasn't sure it was going to work. I just cut about 1 inch off each side then bent at the end angle about another 10 degrees in.
