Pozdrav, I will write this in eng so it can help other people. I'm getting confused about the type of oil that goes into b5.5. Apparently, G 052 911 A2 oil is 75w80 GL5 as I researched and it is also shared with front diff. If I use Castrol 75w90 gl4 that would be thicker oil, and I don't want to have problems with first or second gear. If I use 80 that is gl5 and that one is not good for gear synchro's, but then again it's good for differential. The thing is b5.5 motor is positioned sideways so it does not have the same spec as for instance Golf. My choice at this moment is Febi 75w80 gl5 which has G 052 911 A2 spec. I will do this in spring..maybe I'll go nuts and just buy OEM. This gear stuff is ridiculous. Oh, and my question is Why did you change from Gl5-gl4 and which brand did you use and how many litters. I will buy two and that 1dc will be old oil-Fuck it. Edit: I see now that You used Shell Spirax 75W90 GL4... I mean...
Pozdrav / Hi. 1. I have found same reasons as you why not to use GL5 oil. ( GL5 oil will destroy brass gears ) For that short time I have use FEBI 75W90 GL5 (ser.no 32590). Thats why i have changed to GL4 oil. My opinion is: If shifting is harder i have missed the viscosity, i will change with other oil. But if i have missed GL number and if wrong number really destroy the synchros thats gonna be expensive :D 2. I dont see difference in shifting between GL4 and GL5 oil. 3. YES its share same with diff. 4. Now i have past almost 2000km and i dont have problems with this oil (Shell). Also now its near 0 C degree in the morning everything is normal , cold shifting is even better than with old OEM oil (with 200+ kms). On working car temp (90 C ) shifting is very smooth/better than before. 5. OEM oil would be the best choice ... but 50 eur for 1ltr bottle !! 6. I filled with cca 2.5L. Apparently its going 2.25lts in gearbox but first time when i changed oil with FEBI i was doing clutch on my car and i have gearbox out of the engine. I didnt have this Special vag key, thats way i upside down gearbox and remove old oil through hole that is for reverse light switch. I spill a little bit on floor the rest i have measured and i have cca 2.4 L. Thats way i put 2.5 lts. You just remind me to check oil. :D Hope this will be helpful.
@@1993-g4h Yeah, oem price is ridiculous, wtf are they putting in it. Anyways... glad that there are more of us who still drive this legend of a car. Very good video btw. If yours is running fine then I will also put this shell stuff. Probably... Im still researching Liqui moly.
@@Laesx I ended up with Febi 32590 gl5 which is G 052 911 A2 and also 501.5 spec vw gear oil additive standard. I ended up writing to Febi customer support and got a Serbian technician who ensured me it was G 052 911 A2 and the right oil for B5.5 Passat manual 6 gear. I researched a lot and you can also put gl4+ 501.5 from Shell and Castrol gl5 will not destroy your brass synchro's, only bad driving will.
