how to fit the Empi hard start relay on a VW t2 Bay.
The Empi Hard Start Relay is classed as a kit but in my opinion it isn't has you have to extend the wires (except blue earth) and fit an inline fuse holder so you may as well buy your own relay and wire and make it yourself.

@@vwt2baycamper Yes it does, my challenge is how to get the wires from the engine bay to the starter. I found two entries on the passenger side that are already there. One entry is jammed packed with factory wires, the other , near the fuel return is available, with only one factory wire in the opening. I am using the same gauge wires that was used for the bus.. for instance it seems factory used a 10 or 8 gauge wire for the ignition so am using the same for my ignition connection to the relay, another wire going to the starter on the ring terminal ( bolt, terminal 30) is also 8 or 10 gauge, will also go with the relay.. So with those wires fitted through, not sure I can fit the last wire through.. have not had time yet to try. I am just using the relay block, not using the part with the wires.. Thanks again for doing this.

Why a hard start relay ?

Hi, there can be an issue on some t2 that when they have been driven for a long period and then stopped, when trying to start nothing happens. lights will be on but no ignition crank. this can be caused by a voltage/amp drop from the ignition switch to starter. the hard start relay or hot start relay as some call it solves this issue. It was having the issue on my T2 and solved the issue as soon as fitted. my explanation may not be over technical but I am describing as best as I can from a novice point of view. thanks

@@vwt2baycamper thank you so much for taking time to reply . This is exactly why I couldn’t get my VW started for the last coup,e of days and I’ve been trying to read up so many blogs and they seemed to denote that’s an issue with the battery . I have no mechanical experience what so ever and I just finished my first 1000 KM trip on this and it suddenly wouldn’t start anymore after I have reached home ( thankfully : a trusted friend of course ) it gives me the starter motor click and thereafter the gunfire and the engine wouldn’t start even with decent battery . I would try to find this piece and hopefully can get the Kombi running again . Cheers from #SriLanka
