Episode 2 of transforming a tired looking ex builders T5 into something a little cooler.
In this episode I install a set of Budget JOM Coilovers. I also explain and carry out the Hub Mod & Top Mount Mod.

Not sure how I ended up watching this (don't own a T5, but think I might like to) but am pleased I did. Really good presentation and interesting. I'll probably watch some more of the series, if only to admire your ability and see what I'd be paying sometime to do - because I think this is beyond me!

Brilliant job and the van looks so much better lowered and with the Amoraks. My next project next month will be lowering mine and changing the wheels from 17” to 18” steels/alloys, still to decide. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Great video as always! Really informative and clear, especially the bit about the top mounts which I didn't fully understand till now. Still edgy about doing it myself but I know if I did I would have this video on step by step. Looks much better and those Amarok steels look so good. Thanks Dan!

Got nearly the same van in exact same colour. Took delivery of it standard last week. Just missed out on some amarok steels so the wheel hunt continues. Ordered all the parts for T5.1 front end conversion. Just ordered some 60mm/45mm springs as I carry weight/will be towing car trailer with it so don't want it too low. Yours looks epic now. Keep up the good work. :)

Awesome! Unfortunately the paint is shot on this so i will be re painting it. Speak to Paul at Tamar Wheels. He is on Facebook. That is where i got mine from brand new. Very reasonable price. T5-T5.1 is a nice easy job too. Good luck with your project ✌️

Great vid what most people don’t know t32 has a higher load rate needs a commercial mot and due to load weight max speed on single carriageway Nat speed limit 50 not 60. Check your mot s boys 👍👍👍👍

The top mount mod, can you use that with the original t5 top hat? Looked into it and transporter Hq are selling them but say you need t6 top hat? Got mine as low as I can with the coil overs and hub mod and running 16s banded so could do with another 15mm lower cheers great vids

Thank You for watching! Im sure I have done the mod with T5 & T6 rubbers. They are a 'Consumable' part though and can get fatigue so well worth a change while you have them out.

I’ve changed my suspension to the same brand, new top mounts. After about a week the top mount has a none stop squeak, is it just bedding in or should that not be happening, great vid by the way

Great vid, great content. Will be putting lowering springs on my T32: q - will the rear adjuster delete equate to a similar drop as the front machined top mounts? OR is this just good practice with no extra lows? Trying to stay away from cheap coilovers! Thanks

Thank You for watching! 1mm at the spring is 1.5mm at the wheel. So if the adjuster delete plate was 10mm shorter than the adjuster, this would gain you 15mm at the wheel. The adjuster delete is purely to gain a few extra mm of lows and to have polyurethane between the metal spring and metal of the chassis. Hub mod is a good thing to do as if you hub mod it you can run the coilover at a higher setting and get a better ride. Hope this helps.

Hi bud good video, just to clarify did you use the old nut when setting up outside the van then the new nylon nut when fitting in place, so there's 2 nuts per coil, cheers

Not really got anywhere to put a bench as we sold our house to go travelling in the Crafter I have converted into our fulltime home. I only got this T5 and made the YT channel to give me something to do! Fingers crossed I will eventually get a workshop with a bench!

are there any coilovers on the market which are designed to both lower the van as you did, but also maintain the rated load capacity of the van? and do you know how much the weight capacity of the van has been affected by the coil overs you put on? and do you know if this would work on a 2007 4motion t5? loved the video mate!

Thank You for watching! Yes the coilovers sold for a specific vehicle should be rated for that vehicle meaning the load capacity etc is not affected. The T5 coilovers advertised for T26,28 & 30 will all be suitable for the T30 chassis and load rating. The T32 struts will be suitable for the T32 chassis and load rating. The correct coilovers for you 07 4mo would work fine. You just need to ensure you order the correct set as T26-30 and T32 struts mount in a different way.

Hi Dan loving all the vids, how much lower would you get the front without hub and strut top mods as I’m putting 20”s on mine thinking it might sit too low if it was same height as you’ve done 👍..

Thank you for watching! I think these struts offer a 70mm Drop out the box. Different brands offer different drops. i would advise buying the lowest struts you can and running them higher if you don't want it too low instead of cheaper coilovers and running them at the lowest setting. You will get a better ride that way.

Where did you source the "spacers" for the front struts? The ones you're welding the break line hangers to?

I made them from some 60mm internal diameter steel tube. The height depends on each manufacturer of the strut.

Thank you for watching and for the comment! Yes the ride does get a little harsher. The more you spend on coilovers though the better! So Low Coilovers by Transporter HQ drive better than a standard van in my opinion.

Hey Dan, Many thanks for the video, it helped me clarify my own requirements. One question though, how have you found the JOM coilovers? There are a lot of scare stories about cheap shocks breaking, but is it possibly because of using the wrong (i.e. the nylock) nut?

Thank you so much for the comment and for watching Stephen! The JOM are OK as a budget coilover but they are just that, Budget. If you have the budget I would highly recommend spending as much as you can do. If you are used to having modified vehicles on lowered suspension I think the JOM will be fine. Most of the moaning comes from people that have never modified a vehicle, Remove VW Parts that have had millions spent on development and put on a £200 set of coilovers and wonder why the ride isn't as good. JOM are an OK set of cheap lows in my opinion if fitted correctly.

Bump stops on rear can be really important-Is there a way of putting them back in but in a lowered position?

Ride quality before was 16 year old suspension so not really the best. These are budget coilovers so they are hardly the most amazing ride. I have always had lowered cars, I think it rides quite well for the money.

Thank You for Watching ✌️ I believe you can get plates that effectively create a ‘hub mod’ of sorts. Most people swap the T32 hubs for T30 ones so the hub mod can be done.
