VW TDI fuel neck safety switch removal 

At last, someone who knew what my problem was and more to the point, how to fix it forever! Brilliant, thanks loads for making the video.

Wow! I'd expect that the VW dealer with whom I've done business for years would have explained that to me and sent me on my way a happier and wiser customer. Didn't happen. Instead, they wrote up a service ticket and sent my TDI into the shop. The car emerged in twenty minutes "fixed" and the service manager presented me with a bill for one flat-rate hour ($140.00). After haggling with his boss, they graciously cut the charge in half. I asked to talk to the mechanic who did the repair but all he told me was that it happened quite a bit, that it was not a warranty issue, and that the parts department would be happy to sell me a new VW part if it happened again. Complaints to VW Corp. did not even yield a reply. Two fill ups later, the fuel neck safety switch jammed again. And thankfully, I found your post. Very much appreciate your helpfulness and good will!

Like all of the other comments, this video saved me. I was freaking out at the gas station thinking id have to replace my entire fuel filter tube.

Thank you, this video saved me. I got stuck at a gas station when I was out of gas and my switch got stuck and would not let me put in a normal sized gas pump. Luckily there was an auto shop right next to the gas station but even the mechanics had no idea what to do but I showed them this video and asked them to use their tools pull it out and they did so just like you did and I was able to gas up my car and drive home. What an absurd thing to happen but I am grateful it was an easy fix.

This just happened to me 20 minutes ago. It was a regular size deisel nozzle and not one of those thicker ones, but it still wouldn't go in. I've had my VW Passat deisel for 3-1/2 years and this has never happened. I asked a dude at the gas station to look cuz I thought maybe I was missing something, and he looked for a second and said "no idea." I'm glad I found this so I know I'm not crazy 🙃

Your video helped me out I was out driving and was out of fuel I could not put fuel in the tank that thing jammed up and I couldn't figure out how to get fuel in the tank watched your video and it showed me how to take it out and fix it thanks 👍

Thanks man! You saved me. I couldn't get a normal size pump to fit and just pulled that thing right out. I didn't even realize there was a switch in there.

Thanks for your video!!! Saved me in a pinch when my TDI decided to refuse entry of the nozzle. It was like a toddler being served broccoli. Anyway, I was 60 miles from home and only had 30 miles of range. Found a wal-mart; bought a tool, and yanked that guy out.

Thanks for the video. I bought a '15 GSW and tried it and i guess i didn't put enough "effort" into it ill have to try again. Really a pain in the ass to pull up to the only diesel pump and you can't fill it because the nozzle is too big.

Thank you, went to use my high flow fuel can today in my car and the metal safety piece wouldn’t move in. I used a pair of angled needle nose pliers and grabbed the edges instead of the center, so that also works if you can’t find a pick at home.

Thank you that's a big help. I was looking for a tool and I had one of those cheap rainbird sprinkler screwdrivers really work well for this.

I should’ve looked this up about 3 weeks ago the first time I was fueling up in Mexico!! I’m now in Guatemala & none of the nozzles fit so I’ve been using an AMSOIL Diesel/Octane booster bottle I cut the bottom off of that *also* does not fit 😂 This is going to save me so much time at the pump & also make it so I don’t feel obligated to tip the full service guy for standing there a good ten minutes to fill me up! It will also reduce the spillage on the side of my TDI 😬😂

Thank you my dude. Mine got stuck at the gas station. I didn't have a pick, but I was able to rip it out with needle nose pliars. Would not recommend my method. Pieces of broken plastic almost fell in 😮‍💨

I almost ran out of fuel once because I didn't know this was removal. Every station that had diesel had only the large nozzles. Thankfully a Meijer I went to had the small passenger car one. Definitely not a fun situation.

Just went to the gas station and the diesel pump pulled that piece out for me it's nice to know that I really don't need it but it pissed me off cuz my v-dub is my baby and anybody that owns a v-dub knows what I'm talking about

My adapter came off when I forgot to take the pump our of my tank and drove off. How to in insert a new one?

What’s weird is that I never noticed it until a few days ago. I went to put a normal diesel fuel nozzle in my car, not the ones that 18 wheelers use, and it wouldn’t fit. I stood there for 10 minutes slowly putting in $10 worth of fuel. Does it get locked somehow? Because I never had that problem until a few days ago. I just removed it after watching this video.

hi Cory, I have a 2016 i.6 ltr diesel Octavia, but the unit, whilst almost the same does not have the hook on the hinge flap. On mine the unit has what might be two holes in the outer part of the body. Also my bayonet fixing, the filler cap locks into, appears to restrict the neck size and this shutter unit might not pass this bayonet ring that locks the filler cap. Have you seen this type???

I am planning on pulling this out, has anyone seen any issues arise from pulling it? Check engine or lights of any kind?

The larger fuel noozles at the truck stops are 1 inch jn diameter, you still need to remove the rest of that device from your tank to put it in all the way. You have only the top end, there's still another item that needs to be removed.

Any idea where to buy a replacement part?

UPDATE 2022. With diesel at $7 per gallon and FUEL THEFT on rise this adapter prevents siphon tube and stealing your fuel should they pry open fuel door
