Love the VW Thing! Just watched an episode of Lost in Transmission on the History Channel where they restored a rusted out 1974 VW Thing in just 2 weeks. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

First on your list. Is to add the seals around your motor to keep it from over heating. Then detail it. Also check your thermostat to make sure it is operating properly. Just thought I'd mention it. Enjoy your new adventure. !!!

Your engine looks so much nicer than mine! A friend and I found one in a junkyard and restored it to the point of running at least. Never had the money/time/resources to do anything visually besides give it a sweet paint job. Nice seeing another one. Yours looks awesome.

It's a 74, no matter what the title says. The mirrors on the body instead of the doors is a dead give away. I would check the title and numbers to make sure they match. The air intakes only came in a 74 too, not 73. Look under the front hood, you won't have the BN4 heater like a 73 did. Either way, great car!

I am assuming the Thing project has been put off. It's a daunting task. I only know because I just got doing fully restoring my 74 Thing. Took me 3 months. All the rust and that big dent in the rear interior trunk tray is not an easy repair since it's double walled and the body panel rust is not easy since it's single panel . It's a job for a pro body man

Just bought a VW Thing (Safari in Mexico) same year as this. Cost me $2000 USD equivalent. It's in better condition than this. I was hoping this video would be of some help. Silly me.

That is funny that it is titled as a 73, because mine is very clearly a 73 but it is titled as a 74.
