@@samspace81 I know the sand buggy type one he only took to the car shows, The red one with the porsche engine is still available because it's 50' away from me as I type. I saw the owner a few weeks ago and she didn't mention anything about selling the other road legal (beefed up fancy) one. I can easily check if you are serious about them. She really has no use for them, she has not driven either one to my knowledge. When they were relocated a couple times, just a couple miles they were towed with the color matched tow bars each one has with them. These are not junk, they have never needed rust repair nor crash repair. The brother she inherited them from thru all kinds of cash at them just to make them pretty and go fast. They came from CA where he lived along with his other stuff in an 18 wheeler. I'm going to walk back and look at the speedometer on the red one. It is aftermarket and shows the few miles it has had put on it since it was built. (Ok just checked it shows 20 miles). He only showed it and those are miles taking it out of the garage and in and out of the trailer, well maybe a trip around the block. It has two turning brakes and two of everything like shocks, batts, fuel cells, nicely upholstered racing seats with 5 point belts plus much more. The other street version is also nice with a 1600cc engine, fancy interior plus much more also. The guy had more money than sense it appears. I didn't mention that in the beginning there was a third one that might still be around if her son didn't get rid of it. It was original including paint and was sitting outside with some surface rust the last I saw it. I don't know anything about the mechanics of it. They are located in the rolling hills of SE Ohio near Athens on Rt 13, 65 miles southeast (Rt 33) of Columbus. No lie Sam the 2 I know about are really, really nice just dusty and a few cobwebs. Real garage finds ( even sitting in heated garages) that you can brag to your friends about. The red one has no title and no serial numbers. Where they were located has been modified for fuel cells and other custom stuff. Here in Ohio you would have to claim it as a custom built car and it would be titled as a 2023 VW Thing. Need more info let me know. I think they could be bought for probably half of what the deceased brother had in them. She sold off the car that Mickey Thompson had won the Baja 500 in cheap without checking with me because someone stole the engine. I had Speedway Motors interested in it for their Museum at the time. A 67 Camaro Pace Car he had got away from me also. I couldn't help that one, The ex-wife came from CA and claimed it somehow.
+soundlesspeal ...the names vary as you are finding out. They were known as the 'Trekker' in the UK, but called the 'Thing' in the USA - known as the Kurierwagen in West Germany but called the 'Safari' in Mexico..not sure what other countries knew it as but its interesting don't you think?!
