Electronic Parking Brakes are a standard feature on many modern cars, but the 2011- 2017 Volkswagen Touareg 7P model seems to cause some headaches for various reasons. We have received some feedback from the trade on some of the trouble people have gotten into, how to avoid it if you can, and how to get out of it if you must.
We have received feedback from some members that have had a Touareg arrive at their workshop on a truck with the parking brake locked on. This is one of their stories.
When a compatible diagnostic tool was plugged in, there are two codes present.
C10E2-01 Control Module for Electronic Parking Brake: Electrical Failure
C10E3-29 - Signal Implausible Intermittent
The OE repair information does not give an easy manual way to wind off the motors at the wheels if the system has failed and the diagnostic tool can’t actuate the motors.
Loss of the Long Code
If there has been a drop in system voltage while in service mode or during any basic setting, and possibly if there is a significant difference between the actual and requested air gap, the EPB module (53-Parking Brake control module) may lose its long code. The long code is an eight-digit code which seems to be how the module knows what vehicle it is in, and the type of brakes that are fitted. If it has been lost, the module will have eight zeros in the “coding” field.
To resolve this situation, if you have recorded the long code before work commenced, you can re-enter it, which may enable the module. If you don’t have this code, the vehicle or the module might have to be sent to a dealership to be returned to factory settings.
