Thank you for this video. My car is making a similar sound, and if I understand correctly, the solution is actually the center drive shaft bearing, not the transfer case, right?
Hi Bjarne, Firstly THANK YOU. Great vodeo and very helpfiul. Just to confirm please. Is it the longer rear drive shaft that you have in your lathe ? Can you confirm its the rear shaft or the front shaft pls? Thank you in advance. I have the exact same noise (But I have recently had the rear shaft center bearing replaced, so I may need to look at it again if you discovered a noisy rear center bearing. Thank you.
your problem is most likely the propeller shaft from the transfer case to the rear diff, check the carrier bearing, if the rubber is torn replace the bearing or prop shaft, if you replace the bearing, the shaft is balanced so index it before separating the splines
dear sir, please help me.. i still have the problem after changing the chain, i still have problem shafting from gear 1 to 2. then gear 3 to 6 are smooth. please tell what else i have to buy to fix it. im desperately waiting for your answer. regards
a shifting concern has nothing to do with the transfer case, check trans fluid level and then if found food replace the valve body for the transmission
Bjarne, what was the tiny square metal part you are holding at 8:10? Does it fall out unexpectedly during disassembly? I will be replacing just the chain this weekend and want to avoid running into trouble.
Great Job! Did you have an issue with the oil tube being loose towards the back of the case when you installed the tube? I would think it needs to be air tight. The one I have inserts but its feels loose
You say it is stuck I low range! Maybe it is the stepper motor. The electric motor that switching between high-low-diff lock. Located on the transfer case. The first models had a bad quality stepper motor. Or the electric connation’s to it. Switch-connectors-wire-controlbox etc. The stepper motor is easy to replace. Have you run at fault scan? Maybe it gives an idea.
I got a friend to run vag com and a list of faults popped up. 1. Camshaft position sensor 2.control module for diff lock 3.abs wheel sensor - each wheel sensor sent a fault code 4. Control module for transfer case - would this be the stepper motor that needs replacing? 5.supply voltage terminal 6. Engine speed sensor
My car 2004 treg 2.5 tdi has a knocking sound when turning, suspected it was CVs, changed them but no change. High-Low -Diff Lock also brinks sometimes. My mech suspects a transfer case problem. He suggests changing. Thats a hell lot of work and expensive. Before i go there, maybe the problem is low lying, could it be a stepper motor? or transfer case oil needs changing? please help.
+Osvaldo Mendez Socket is 36 mm. 12 point. You will need a long one. Or like I did, cut it on the middle and weld in a couple of centimeters of a pipe.
Lower the gearbox end as much as possible. look out for what happens in the engine bay when you lower it! Use socket wrench and as many extension pieces you need and maybe an cardan joint. Or what ever it is called in english.
Indeed helpful video, 💯 Beside this can you please 🙏specify in the title of the video or reply in this comment , what year and model of Touareg is this one ? what engine and which transmission type is, manual or automatic 🚗
dear sir can i have your whatsapp number to communicate i still have same troubles in the transfer case box and i believe you know the spare parts names and codes to make order regards
