Actually UY Scuti is larger than Canis majors. It is not a hypergiant even though it is the largest known star, but a bright luminous red supergiant star. It's surface would likely engulf Saturn as well and extend out halfway to the orbit of Uranus. It probably began its life as a 23 solar mass O class star but has probably lost half of the original mass it started out with.
