I always felt this design should be given a revision. DA/SA, de-cocker ergo's at the back end are less than desirable but the barrel design, recoil system, take down and rollers are pure genius. If 1911 gets a 2011 update than the CZ52, deserves one just the same.

So does the CARTRIDGE!!! Near 357 power with Armor defeating potential in a light to carry round... Not much heavier than 9mm but WAY lighter than 45, 357, or 40 cal !!! I've written Buffalo Bore a FEW times about a MAX TOK self defense load!!! JOIN ME!!!

I purchased my CZ 52 more than 20 years ago for around $100. It does well with old mil surp ammo, but I also purchased several boxes of Sellier & Bellott brass cased ammo which I have reloaded successfully & they work very well. My chrono says the steel cased stuff flies @ 1500+ fps. Sort of a mini magnum.

Crude Generalization: Old, heavy guns with old-school SA trigger mechanisms and tiny blade sights (would) shoot more accurately for most people than most "modern" guns. And yeah... great video. Now I want one. Dammit.

We heard that before firing ours and since we weren't sure if it was already broke we bought a replacement ahead of initially firing this for the first time 😉

Vz is an abbreviation for "Vzor" which is the Czech word for "Model" CZ is the abbreviation for "Česká Zbrojovka" basically "Czech Armory". Other Czech guns were sometimes named for the city where the armory that developed them was located ...Brno, Praga (Praha), Opava, etc. AND sometimes the initials of the model number indicate the names of the designers, particularly for sporting guns, such as ZH (Zbrojovka Holek) The three Holek brothers were the "John Brownings" of Czechoslovakia, having invented lots of the famous Czech guns including the ZB 26 (Zbrojovka Brno vz. 1926) which would be adopted as the "BREN" by Britain. There were Vz 52 rifles, machineguns and pistols. Czechs chose to produce their own military firearms in calibers designated by the Warsaw Pact rather than use Soviet made weapons. Because...they could do it better.

I'm was lucky enough some 20 years ago to have bought and kept one of these. And I love shooting it to this day. She is a bit top heavy and packs a punch that is harder than it looks because most of the weight is in that slide. I did buy new grips for it about 5 years ago and she looks amazing with them. And she shoots just as true as they have shown here. I've never had the first problem out of it. I also don't get to shoot it often as I would like either because finding ammo is becoming increasing hard to make that so.
@frankbrowning328
@frankbrowning328 3 года назад
Definitely an odd duck in many respects but also such a cool classic com block design. It's a shame they didn't come with decent sites as the intrinsic accuracy is there. It's just hard to shoot them really well unless you have great eyes and trigger control. All ammo is difficult to find now but I have seen current manufactured ammo in FMJ, soft point and hollow point configuration. With an expanding bullet the 7.62X25mm is a great cartridge. FMJ bullets when loaded to the original 1400 fps+ will often penetrate a level 3 vest.

I bought one of these in the early 2000s for $100, regret selling it. That machinegun ammo might run as high as 1700 fps, PPU probably 1500 to 1600 fps.

LOVE my CZ 52... If the "micro - internals" like springs, rollers, and firing pins were as good as the overall design, it would be one of the most durable and robust pistols ever!!! BEWARE "NEW MAGS" as well... 'Old/New stock or used are better IMO ... Don't use mags to Field strip and BEWARE the De Cocker... My De cocker worked GREAT 100%... so well I thought I had "That Hidden Gem"... I found out differently later on.... My trigger return spring broke so I sent it to my local gunstore "In house" SMITH... Afterwards it ran flawless thru 2 mags rapid fire... I was carrying "Cocked and locked" as I had previously and went to a party of an Old friend... I was in my car traveling from the private lake to a cabin 500 yard away so I decided to De cock .... BANG!!!! ... at 3:30 am !!! Thank God I had enuff sense to open my USED Cadillac door and point in a safe direction while De cocking!!! I don't know if it was the NEW SPRING or the faulty Safety/ De cocker but it did the SAME THING 2 days later STONE SOBER when I tested to see if it was the Gun or the Beer... GREAT GUN but if you use the De Cocker... Point it SAFE!!!

Wow! You guys test my favorite pistol. Mine is 2 years younger than me. It's the reason I have 6 other vintage CZ's. What I like about the 52 is the accuracy, the roller locking barrel mechanism, and the 2 valley report!! You can hear it 2 valleys away - the 7.62x25 is serious cold war loud with speed. I just found a wooden case marked CZ with 2,320 rounds. S & B is really clean and reliable, my favorite. PPU also works excellent. I like pushing back to 25 + 50 yards. How far is yours tossing the brass. Mine spits it 45° rearward and 15-20 feet away. I am trying 3 new different Wolff recoil springs. Love Czech Jacob's channel also🇨🇿👍 Love love love🇨🇿👍 Loud in New Hampshire ✌️

I traded a ruger blackhawk 30 carbine for this and also got in the deal, bout 50rds of surplus ammo, leather holster and two mags. I upgraded the firing pin to steel and got new LOKGrips. I believe I came out sweet on the deal. Finding ammo at the time wasn't so bad and the price was right, a couple of boxes here and there. She doesn't like shootin the surplus ammo (hard primers), but loves the new ammo. Can't shoot it limp wristed or you'll be tasting steel. Never had FTF or FTE, never a stove pipe. I tell people it like a 9mm on crack.. When I go to the range, people take notice. Of all my guns, I like this one better. It's not so bad cleaning it either. When shootin the surplus stuff, ya better hold her tight, cause that surplus packs a punch !

I’ve been getting “used to” the little stubby sights on my M57 for quite some time now. The safety is one of the annoying trigger dingus’ and throws shots wide sometimes. Of course it’s the gun, not me 😅 I’m reminded of .357sig with the recoil on this, but what do you think?

I just bought one, it looks like an unused rig with holster, cleaning rod, lanyard and extra mag.$411 bucks, they cost more now. I don't know about the firing pin yet, I need to check that out, the inside of the gun looks great except where the rollers sit, there are circles slightly worn into the lower where they sit.

@@GBGuns Because it is an attractive piece whose mechanical thesis is legendary... I just wish you had researched it a little more. A lot of work was done with this about ten or fifteen years ago. The 52 was made for gunfighting with a powerful cartridge, not marksmanship or comfort... not ergonomics. Comparing this piece to modern pistols is a little silly.
@GBGuns
@GBGuns 3 года назад
Of course it is,which is why we didn't compare it, but we did contrast it so that those who don't know can appreciate what all has changed in the 70 years since this was designed.

Classic firearms are great weapons but Classic Firearms is a cancer and a hypocritical site. I wish the Vz 52 was more reliable and operateable. The lack of a slide release, the flush fit mags that have to be pried out, and the danger of an overstressed recoil system make it a danger and struggle to reload and shoot. The meme about exploding isn't unwarranted. The gun was originally designed around 9x19 Parabellum but rechambered at the command of the Soviet Union to a much hotter round.
@alexandruborodin755
@alexandruborodin755 2 года назад
No. It was planed initially to neck down tok.case to 5,56, and bullet vel.to be around 700 m/s. The ussr said: NO, only 7,62*25 tok. Finally , the chehs made this ammo hotter (556 m/s), than the soviet velocity (420 m/s), because it would be used also in their SMG. Later,they decided to export cz 52 to the west,and made 9*19 barrel. That is the storry.

Some 7-8 years ago l called siniora Fioccki in italy,and gave an idea to produce a nice,modern,not too hot (460m/s) ammo for soviet pist.TT. l convinced her,and now it's in production. With modern S/B ammo (502 m.s.) from chehia and serbian ppu HP (525 m.s.) you will destroy pistol this pist.in no time. Hello t is not an ak-47. It was just for one fight ,( single use).
