Why would they do that ? Obviously they have no problem selling B-33 for $600 US or collapsible stock for $900. They would never make supply to US easier when they are lining their pockets to the brim with cash through their “vendors”.
The ak12s were all equipped with optics when issued- supposedly officers didn’t trust the soldiers to “lose” the optics so they removed them from all the rifles. I hope this stupidity is the truth- because if it’s just disinformation to cover up the fact that the dust cover doesn’t allow an attached optic to hold zero - this weapon is even worse than we thought. Anyone who has picked one up at a trade show can tell instantly that the useless pursuit of a “free floated handguard” produced a flexy flimsy thing that can’t be used to attach optics, lasers, range finders, or any other device that needs to hold some degree of zero. If the rails on the top of the dust cover can’t hold zero either- it’s no surprise the ak12s we’ve seen in Ukraine just have iron sights. In any case, the Russians would have been far far better off upgrading their existing AK74 supply with Zenitco handguards and dust covers- instead of that colossal waste of money that resulted in the ak12. It’s the first major revision to the Ak platform ever really- and after the weird but cool and ultimately impractical attempts at mechanical recoil mitigation, variable multi shot burst firing options, and what would have been- had they pulled it off- the ideal small arms solution for a conscript army- a night vision capable rifle with a familiar manual of arms, no perceived recoil, barrel rise, or flash signature and a simple modern red dot optic that’d allow novice riflemen the ability to accurately engage a target see the point of impact- and correct with a quick follow up shot- instead they got basically a a k74 realized in bad air soft grade plastic that was redesigned for no apparent reason other than to perhaps insure no parts commonality with anything the Russian State already owns. At least Kalishnokov wasn’t brazen enough to introduce a new cartridge with the final product- probably only because they don’t make ammunition. The ak100 series of rifles featured parts commonality across the line-up, consistent and prudent design decisions, and proper barrel lengths, trunnion deaign, and tolerances that made them probably the best Ak pattern rifles ever built by anyone who wasn’t an East German. They should have just replaced their oldest rifles with new Ak-10xs, and equipped them all with Zenitco handguards, dust covers, folding stocks, grips, charging handles, and Persts and Vozhors. They would have saved money. Hell- They could have just put the little b-22 optic mount on their stock of Ak-74s, a b-10 lower hand guard and a Perst 4+ with a Klesch ir flashlight and the Russians would have essentially the same fighting capabilities as the US has with its m4 block 2 rifles. Instead they bought a bunch of guns that seemingly can’t use modern optics- are heavier, less reliable, less accurate than the rifles they replaced- but at least they have a cool folding stock. Zenitco- you guys should have bid for this contract and just built your own ak74 with all your fixing’s.
