The Twelve Variations in C major on the French song "Ah, vous dirai-je Maman" KV 265 (300e), are a composition for piano by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, probably written by him at the age of about twenty-five (in 1781 or 1782). This work consists of the theme of the French folk song Ah! Vous dirai-je, Maman, followed by twelve variations. The existence of the melody that is the basis of this song is documented starting from 1761 in the Anglo-Saxon countries. This melody is widespread in the form of a well-known children's song entitled Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
The composition consists of thirteen sections: the first section is the theme, the others are the variations from I to XII. Only variations XI and XII are provided with agogic indications, Adagio and Allegro respectively. The theme is presented "in the simplest possible form"; in the first variation the melody is exposed in semiquavers played by the right hand, while in the second variation it is accompanied by semiquavers for the left hand. Similarly, the third variation presents triplet arpeggios for the right hand, and the fourth triplet arpeggios for the left hand. In the fifth variation the melody is embellished through the use of syncopation. The sixth and seventh variations are again based on semiquavers. Counterpoint appears in the eighth variation (in C minor) and the ninth variation. In the tenth variation the melody is to be performed with crossed hands. The eleventh variation is an Adagio. In the twelfth and final variation the theme is accompanied by the Albertine bass.
Le Dodici variazioni in do maggiore sulla canzone francese "Ah, vous dirai-je Maman" KV 265 (300e), sono una composizione per pianoforte di Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, da lui scritta probabilmente all'età di circa venticinque anni (nel 1781 o nel 1782). Quest'opera consiste nel tema della canzone popolare francese Ah! Vous dirai-je, Maman, seguito da dodici variazioni. L'esistenza della melodia che è alla base di questa canzone è documentata a partire dal 1761 nei paesi di area anglosassone. Tale melodia è diffusa sotto forma di una notissima canzoncina per bambini intitolata Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
La composizione consta di tredici sezioni: la prima sezione è il tema, le altre sono le variazioni dalla I alla XII. Solamente le variazioni XI e XII sono provviste di indicazioni agogiche, rispettivamente Adagio e Allegro. Il tema è presentato "nella forma più semplice possibile"; nella prima variazione la melodia è esposta in semicrome eseguite dalla mano destra, mentre nella seconda variazione è accompagnata da semicrome per la mano sinistra. Analogamente la terza variazione presenta arpeggi in terzine per la mano destra, e la quarta arpeggi in terzine per la mano sinistra. Nella quinta variazione la melodia è abbellita mediante l'uso del sincopato. La sesta e la settima variazione si basano nuovamente sulle semicrome. Il contrappunto compare nell'ottava variazione (in do minore) e nella nona variazione. Nella decima variazione la melodia è da eseguire a mani incrociate. L'undicesima variazione è un Adagio. Nella dodicesima ed ultima variazione il tema è accompagnato dal basso albertino.
Antonio Castagna graduated from IMP “G. Braga” of Teramo and, subsequently, he perfected himself with Maestro Franco Medori and Maestro Carlo Zecchi.
He has held numerous concerts and recitals in Italy and abroad (ARGENTINA, AUSTRIA, SOUTH KOREA, GERMANY, SWEDEN, SWITZERLAND, BELGIUM, HOLLAND, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, USA). He has participated several times in RAI radio and television programs.
He played in Salzburg as part of the Salzburger Schlosskonzerte and in Paris, at the Italian Cultural Institute, as part of the “Hommage à LA FIGIA DI JORIO” event.
He toured Basel for the Consulate General of Italy.
At the invitation of the Italian Cultural Institute, he played in BRAZIL, in Rio de Janeiro, in the prestigious National Museum of Fine Arts.
He played, with the Teramo Trio, in Philadelphia (USA) in the Marshall Auditorium of Haverford College, in the Lincoln Hall of the Union League.
He was Director, from 1996 to 2012, of the I.S.S.M "Gaetano BRAGA" of Teramo. He was a piano teacher at the Conservatories of Foggia and Teramo.
