@ukere2211 Maruyama dropped to his knees or did fake attacks whenever he was outgripped. It's tough to throw someone that does that whenever you dominate the kumi-kata. Furthermore, Khyar's favorite throws are close contact (like ura nage), that's why he needed to breach the distance with Maruyama before orbiting him. I don't see how you can call that "non productive judo"...

But I recognize the French audience: when I attended, around 20 years ago, the Paris Grand Slam, I saw French people booing Inoue defending against Traineau. But when Inoue won, they cheered for him loudly. Anyway, you can discuss the way Khyar fighted, but his attitude toward referees, making gestures etc. is not Judo.

⁠​⁠@@Vaitamanu Maruyama attacks at 8:02 and 8:15 are “unsuccessful” attacks? They are blatant false attacks, no kuzushi, no grip… He did that to reset the match because Khyar had dominant grip. Regarding Khyar’s attitude, I do agree that he allowed his frustration to take the best of him. That being said, he didn’t insult Maruyama or the referee either… This kind of things can happen in the heat of the moment, even if it’s not a good look for him.

If Judo is a martial art, then he also displayed little evidence of having learnt anything about the spirit of The Way. I blame the people he learned Judo from for not instructing him in the right way.

He needs to be taught the proper Way of Judo. I blame his teachers and Dojo he went to. They failed to teach him the true discipline of Judo.

They both got cut, bled and had to be bandaged. Judo is not a blood sport, and the smallest drop of blood must be cleaned off both competitors and the mats of the Dojo or place of practice/fighting. The Dojo was considered sacred (not in the Christian religious sense but in the Shinto beliefs of Japan), and when Judoka enter and leave the Dojo they have to bow to the Kamidana which symbolize the gods of the Dojo, of Budo. and the spirits of the dead teachers and masters, and also bow to each other at the beginning and the end of practice. Judo is a martial art based on respect and consideration for the opponent and the aim is to practice the Way, not to hurt the opponent. Also, winning has to be accompanied by a quiet humility. JU (soft, malleable) DO (Way).

To put it simply, Judo and its practitioners are allergic to blood. But when someone is injured and it is still maintainable we take first aids and bandages and continue.
