She looks beautiful pulling that rake of teaks. Your reviews are always honest but also show the models at their best. And thank you so much for those really kind words about DCMR. You summed up what I’m trying to do on the channel so eloquently and made me really proud that we have a global community supporting each other with this fantastic hobby.

Thanks so much Martyn, the original rake was longer but there seems to be an issue with one or two of the coaches as they kept derailing, suspect it might have been the rotation joint on the bogies. You’re very welcome, you deserve all the attention Martyn, I am so fond of your channel and can’t wait to see it go from strength to strength 😎

Lovely looking model! Can't help but compare the look of the front end cowling on the top of the smokebox to Bulleid's later SR Pacifics. Perhaps he was inspired by the W1 when designing the MNs? Great video my dude 🎉

Hi Hylt. Who can disagree with your comments on this incredibly striking loco? What a fabulous machine, both in real life and model form! Great to see it works as well as it looks. Very good review, both narratively and visually. Particularly liked the intelligent use of historical footage, especially at 8mins when you showed it hauling that dynamometer car. The pleasure you're enjoying from your purchase is palpable. And at the end of the day, that's what the hobby is all about. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and of course, as it's a Gresley creation, it goes without saying I love it. I always think it a shame that more Gresely designed locos didn't find their way to Barry Scrapyard in South Wales at the end of steam, as this would have increased greatly the number of Gresley machines in preservation.

You’re too kind Stephen, I feel a bit daft sometimes when reviewing, as I’m still learning about all the parts of an engine, so I find pointing out specific parts a little challenging, but I will hopefully improve as time goes. Indeed, a great shame that we essentially lost most of the LNER to scrap, I think about the Peppercorns like Blue Peter and Tornado and am grateful we have them still but I do wish something like this had been preserved. It’s a striking beast, and has easily become a firm favourite for me in steam. I found more footage, but it was licensed by British Pathe and I would be tentative to use it given copyright issues. Thank you so much for watching and being a constant and great contributor to my channel 😎🙌 Have a great week, I’ll get to replying to your mail ASAP, that collection is a LOT to digest! 🤣 Hylt

Hi, great review of a loco I have admired for a while, Hornby missed an open goal by not fitting lighting or a firebox glow, I guess they have bigger fish to fry, very unique looking loco in my opinion, I will probably buy one eventually when the price comes down a bit, thanks for sharing.

Yes, Gresley was definitely a "go big or go home" type of loco designer. Whilst there were elements of standardisation in what he created, his key philosophy was to use a "horses (or steam locos) for courses" approach.

@@stephendavies6949 I love the art deco look of it too. On those old 1930s travel posters…the stylised trains look like the hush hush.

@stephendavies6949 4 месяца назад
@StarWarsJay Yes, the posters are iconic. The LMS tended to use the streamlined Coronation Class locos and the LNER the A4s, although the Flying Scotsman (both the loco and the train) featured too. If the W1 hadn't been, well, so Hush Hush, then I'm sure the LNER would have used that in it's publicity ads too. Cosmetically, it looked almost identical to an A4 when it was rebuilt.

@@stephendavies6949 you certainly know your trains sir. I’m new to the hobby. I started by watching Sam’s Trains last year randomly and the video was on the Accurascale class 92. I had to buy it even though I didn’t have a stick of track. I’ve built my collection up since then (loads of wagons, another loco, track, controller etc), but I’m yet to get a baseboard and set it all up haha. I’m working on it. I still have much to learn, so thanks for the great info.

@StarWarsJay Glad to be of help. Sam is a great place to start. He has wisdom beyond his years. His forensic reviews are second to none. And there's nothing wrong with "buying the saddle before the horse," as the models are works of art in their own right, especially in these days of super detailing. My interest in railways was down to my dad buying me a Hornby Frieghtmaster train set when I was a boy in around 1970. He was a coal miner, and through this connection to heavy industry, I started to understand the significance the railways played in the industrial revolution. This remained a key interest of mine over the decades that followed. I've only recently returned to the model railway hobby, but kept my hand in by attending the odd exhibition and buying 1 or 2 models that caught my eye. Now in my late 50s, the wheel has turned full circle, and I share a layout with a friend and neighbour, and we run all sorts of trains, although we try to run each train as prototypically as possible. Not that it matters, as I'm a great believer in "Rule 1" of model railways: "It's my layout and I'll run whatever I like"! There are a huge number of resources on YT that provide both enjoyment, entertainment & technical support. The best do it all (and provide "Infotainment"), such as Sam's Trains. Not sure if you've come across New Junction, Everard Junction, EuviRail & Model Railways Unlimited? They're pretty good. OOBill has a cult following too. Model Railway Quest & Matt Slade may also be worth a look. Nice talking with you, Stephen

I just don't understand why Hornby still keeps tooling locos with fixed rear pony trucks. It was fine 30 years ago but now it's just not up to standard. So far as the front lamps are concerned I'm pretty sure having all 4 on was for Royal Special trains only. Different lamp combinations for various train types. I may be wrong as I'm an LMS guy.😊
@Proper_Chuffed
@Proper_Chuffed 4 месяца назад
Completely agree with you on this! It seems a cost cutting measure perhaps? It is silly, we used to have them, and now we don’t? 😂 why?! Thanks for the thoughts on the lamp arrangements! Doubt they would put the King behind the hush hush given its prototype nature 😂 Cheers, Hylt

@@Proper_ChuffedHave now seen the intro, nice model must have been a sight to see when it was out shopped in 1929. I have the 2021 model and the modified 1936 version in LNER and later BR liveries. Did you know that the tender from this engine eventually ended up with the LNER A4 Union of South Africa loco just before it was retired in 1966. The model is part of the Great Gathering collection so is quite expensive! I think I once saw a house with a name plate Dunromin with obviously meant they were staying in the one place. My great grandparents named their first and only house Weona ie we own it and not the bank. Cheers, Denis.

The rear wheels, under the cab, not turning (constantly) and "hovering" in mid-air around curves, looks absolutely RIDICULOUS! I have three Hornby A4's that have modified the rear truck so that the wheels (flanged) can shift side to side, and negotiate my minimum 30" radius curves. On the "Hush-Hush", this looks like it may be a daunting task...🤔 If someone has accomplished this, please let us know the process! The designers at Hornby are truly HARD-HEADED at not coming up with a better, more realistic design 😡. WHY??? Wheels that actually TURN...what a novel idea...!
