I've finally got the W123 out of the garage and driving. There are still a lot of things to do in terms of finalizing this project but going for a ride in this thing provides some gratification for the early morning hours spent in the garage over the past months.

Thanks! I'm purchasing another 240D next weekend and will make some more videos. This is going to be a fixup/clean/refresh job. No crazy swaps on this one.

did you use the control wiring on the alternator? The two wire connector? Awesome swap!

Lovely project! It's my dream to do something like this. How did you do the propshaft, connecting the 37dz with the w123 diff?

Amazingly the BMW front shaft section has the same splines as the W123 rear section so they just slide together. I had a driveshaft shop shorten the BMW front section and am using the stock W123 rear section.

Hi Kyle, I'm looking to buy an 03-06 w211 and having trouble deciding between an m112 and an om648. You're the only person I know who probably has extensive experience with the om648. My biggest consideration is low cost of ownership and not having to spend my weekends working on the car or having to fix things. Wanted to know what your opinion is

I think the M112 is a solid platform and probably has lower cost of ownership. That engine shared many parts with others (m113). Both the M112-113 are cheap and readily available at local pick-n-pull lots. Anything for the OM648 will be harder to find and unique to that engine here in the states especially.

I've been tuning the car myself. It's been a learning process for sure. I took courses online from HP Academy for common rail tuning. There is a good facebook group for Baldur's ECU and studying existing factory maps from different vehicles as well as reading technical papers on common rail injection.
