Sick to death of fuel system issues - but at least this car has not been touched in 6 years.
Original crappy video made 6 years ago when too scared to talk on camera:
• W124 - Old Noisy Fuel ...
I know better now and will be working on the package outside the car.

Nothing really will last as long as parts made 30 years ago, no matter the manufacturer. That is tough reality of today

Yep, you can buy a brand new part. Or go and get one from the junk yard and be better off!

Bugger! "Bosch can do better." True. A letter must be written.

Write to Bosch with a picture of the Datalogic barcode on the pump. This is a safety issue, may be a manufacturing defect. The original pump on my 6.9 lasted 40 years and is a good 50% heavier than the current Bosch pump model. Still vastly better than Chinesium pumps, but they definitely do not make them like they used to.

This lower quality parts is getting ridiculous.. My coupe pumps lasted 28 years until changed to efi and one Fuel pump.

I have the W124 coupe 1995 and have had noise from the pumps and petrol smell as well. Replaced the pumps and still have the high pitched buzzing noise. Just living with it now.

I had high-pitched buzzing after four years of running new Bosch pumps. Then it just went away now the pumps are quiet again.🤷🏻

This is why whenever I replace something nowadays, and it could still be used and was working, I'm keeping. They don't make anything like they used to do 30 years ago... I replaced my pumps only because one of them was not working after 31 years and 300kkm. We will see how long they will last.

I feel your pain. I have the same issue with the same style Bosch Pump on my 500SEC. Replaced about 8 years ago, but driven very sparingly in those years.

I had my old Pierburg pump leaking through positive terminal, but it was 32 y/o, so can't really blame.

Absolutely unacceptable. I also replaced the fuel pump on my 190E with a BOSCH unit fairly recently. Hopefully nothing like this happens. A letter should be written. It's not the money or the pump because at least here in Greece i paid 70€ and a fuel pump for a newer Mercedes is in the 500s range. It's the fact that it should have lasted AT the very least 15 years. From a pump that could last 40 years to a pump that barely gets to 6 years is unacceptable from a company like BOSCH which is the OE supplier anyway.

I had that exact issue with a Bosch 088 type Pump 5 years ago with an LH2.4 Injection Volvo and I ended up using it as a parts washer pump and it'd been installed only a year or so earlier, Its been the only time this was an issue and I'd been using E10 for a while so I put it down to that and went back to 91. Now im going through fuel pump deaths again as the quality of 91 (And I only buy from BP or Shell) deteriorates and with talk of making 91 obsolete the quality has gone down so I moved to 95 pulp which unlike 91 actually smells like Petrol. The pumps that are failing are both on cars I drive but more on cars I only run every few weeks and have had fuel pumps replaced in the last few years both high volume in tank and external although I now prefer Walbro intank universal pumps and the E85 range although more expensive than the Bosch are IMO better and they have 088 type replacements that draw less current and are as quiet.

I guess even Bosch are subbing out the manufacture to somewhere, who might then sub, and everytime the QC goes to shit. It has got to the point where you no longer know whether paying for a known brand is worth it anymore. Extremely frustrating.

Utterly unacceptable coming from Bosch, and considering your 124 has done very few kms in those 6 years. See, this is precisely my fear when buying OE parts at a premium and have them last nothing compared to the ones fitted 30 years ago. If hoses were already replaced, I’d try to save them. Probably aren’t brittle at all. The whole bunch of OE ones is stupidly expensive, sitting at around $800 last time I checked. Of course I went ahead and made them custom, saving the the original fittings for a fraction of the price.

I think I see a crack at the crimp where it is leaking. That's wretched bad luck. Once you have removed it have a look at where the pump is made. In one of his videos P.H. has made mention of Bosch parts coming from a particular country are disappointingly sus.

@@salehfiras943 my cars have this stench too - the vent for the charcoal canister is inside the engine bay in the left front fender. Is the tank holding pressure or is there no hiss when the cap is removed on a hot day?

These days so called “brand names” are now manufactured by who ever gets the bid and then they put their name on it. You probably ended up with a URO after all. I did a video on the radiator I purchased directly from the dealer and it is total crap. In my video I compare 3 different radiators. One is an original Behr. The second is a cheap aftermarket and the third is the genuine Mercedes. Even the cheap aftermarket is better constructed. Boeing at one time had high quality control, but now they forget to add the cotter pin on the bolts.

Whats country of manufacture on those pumps ? Only ever had a bosch pump fail when pumping dirty fuel through them. Still had one from 1976 that was absolutely fine running on a 280se, so obviously even Bosch doesn't make them like they use to.

hoses are all original as far as im aware. There are some decently made drop in replacement pumps made in the USA. but really not keen on reinventing the wheel and doing all the homework figuring out which connections are correct to get etc. I may just get another bosch single pump and replace the failed one. I have a feeling since its the lowest point of the lower one that leaking that its water contaminated fuel thats corroded it. Foolishly i transfered the same garbage fuel that was in red that ruined its tank unknowingly to this car back in the time.
