Took my C300 to dealership, they said the light/rain sensor needs to be replaced. Ordered it from eBay. Removed the old sensor, put the new one back there (by the way, putting metalic side clips and holes in the mounting place in the windshield area is a total pain and is not as easy as shown in this video,). After I plugged the power wire into the sensor, I still see the error: Auto light function inoperative shown on thr dashboard. Took it to Mercedes dealership in Indianapolis, they said it needs to be programmed! and they charged me $182 to just program it, and it finally works. Mercedes cars have so many electronic issues & are expensive to maintain.
I wish I had read the messages of the video before buying the new sensor at the stealership and finding out that it will need the car to be reprogrammed in order to recognize it.
Man your the best ! When i checked with my friend who owns workshop for luxury cars he told me it may risk the glass. After watching ur video it seems as a bluff.
@@ScottElliott152 So Glad I found this! Mine started doing it a week ago and Mercedez BenzSydney are the biggest rip off artists in the world! I'll pull mine out, get the part number and order off eBay same as you did :) Thank you!
I replaced the sensor but the light still did not reset. any ideas?? the fog lights turn on the way they should but the dummy light is still reading that its bad...
No ideas as I had no issues replacing it. Everything worked again as it should. You could try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes or so.
My c200 auto lights keep coming up on the dash and the wipers have a mind of their own i have them on the off setting and they still work at intermediate speed. They can be working but i can not change the speed or activate the washer fluid
Hi Stuart, I replaced the old faulty sensor # ending in 8185 with new sensor #7801 and the error is still coming up. Not sure what I should do next. Any Ideas or suggestions very welcome. thanks, Patrick
You may need to remove the negative battery terminal for a few minutes. Also turn the lights off ... that is not on auto ... then turn them back to auto.
My sensor works sometimes (No reasction vs over reaction in rain) and auto lights seem slightly unreliable. No error codes. Just know it had a replacement screen at some point. Any ideas on fix? Thanks
hey scott long time no see just a question with your DAS XENTRY car diagnostic tools are you able to enter into the headlight module and switch intelligent lighting on or off? i wish to switch off my intelligent light system permenantly off
I bought the software preinstalled on an external HDD from here: www.obdexpress.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-Ja4ubGK3gIVjLaWCh0Itg-3EAAYASAAEgKGc_D_BwE Once I got used to it I joined www.mhhauto.com and downloaded earlier versions of Xentry/DAS that allow you to do things like change the variant coding. After 01-2011 MB starting locking things down so later versions don't give much access to anything. I mostly use DAS 08-2008 on a virtual machine using VMWare.
he used his skills and a pick tool as demonstrated in the video. the more I own my w212, the more I realize every system is designed to turn into a repair opportunity. 🙂
No I didn't. If you're still getting the message then something's not right. Perhaps the sensor is not compatible ... is it new or used? Turn the lights off for a while. Also you could try disconnecting the battery for a short period which resets many of the control modules.
It is new. I did check to make sure that it is compatible. I'll try disconnecting the battery next. I thank you very much for responding to my question. I'll let you know how it works out for me. Thanks again for your help.
@robertsessions8139 I showed everything I did in the video. After replacing the part, it worked again but the Dealers always say things need to be coded. If your rain sensor is faulty, you have no option but to replace it. You'll soon know if it's going to work and maybe some cars need coding but that wasn't my experience. What if you're in a more remote area .... are Mercedes going to leave you stranded because an item needs coding? I doubt a countries design rules would allow that to happen.
@@robertsessions8139This was just posted by MariusPenta. Hello, I have replaced successfully rain sensor A2048704726, from w204 220cdi '08, with A2049017801. No coding was required. Maybe this info will help someone.
Quick question Scott. I also have 2008 W204 (C300 Sport) here in the US. The" auto light inoperative" notification came up about 6 months ago. Thanks to your video, I have removed the sensor - the part number is A 204 870 4726. I realize that the part numbers get upgraded - the most recent part number I have discovered is 204 901 4504. If the part states that's it's compatible with W204, and looks identical, should I expect it to be interchangeable with my old part? Appreciate your expertise!
Thanks so much for your quick reply. Unfortunately, replacing the rain sensor did not fix my malfunction. Still have the same notification. Would you have any other thoughts for troubleshooting this issue? @@ScottElliott152
@@alexhatcher2904 You'd have to plug it into the MB STAR system to discover the fault code. Fortunately I have my own Chinese STAR system. You could try disconnecting the battery for a while but I doubt it will sort it out.
It depends if your car has the software already installed for the rain sensor wipers. If it has then you would need to edit the coding. If your car doesn't have provision for the rain sensing wipers (you don't say what you have) then you'll only be able to use the light sensor.
Scott Elliott my currently sensor installed is A 204 870 3526. How i can find out if my car is having provision for the rain sensing wipers? Thx! (Vin: WDD2040021A320997)
@@marianbarbu8513 You'd have to connect it to DAS/Xentry to read the current coding. See if you can find an independent with the Mercedes software. That part number is a combined rain/light sensor so it might be a case of activating the rain sensor wipers.
Hi scott, just wondering as my wiper works totally fine in auto but when i turn on my key i got message of auto light inoperative as light remains on always, is that the same problem from sensor or different things.
@@ScottElliott152 my car is completely same car with same parts number that you are showing so do i have to change as same like you did and is there any other parts number i can suit to this part as in Australia its pretty expensive. Highly appreciate your help legend

About 10.5 litre/100km for suburban driving. 7.0 litres/100km country driving at 110kph. I took the 115CDI for a drive on the weekend to a track 2 hours south. At a real 110kph it sits on 2500RPM. With the 2.92 diff it would be about 2225RPM which I think it would handle on a flat road. With the 2.45 diff it would be 1875 RPM. I think it would struggle at that.
Scott Elliott 7.0 for the 320Mmmm I thought they may have been better than that actually. I know the previous 320cdi with that beautiful inline 6 Diesel were fair bit better. With the Vito but if you put another 50+hp through she’d handle it but stock the 2.92 would be perfect. Hopefully in the next month I’ll able to do the swap. With exhaust, tune, filter & diff I’m looking forward very much to be cruising her around. I’ll give you the updates when it’s done
Scott Elliott the new 119cdi Vito with the souped up version of our 115cdi is nearly 59kph per 1000rpm, so 100kph is 1700rpm but has the 7speed Gtronic auto like your 320cdi. Wouldn’t it be cool to retrofit that transmission into our 115cd’s
@@paolouchicentofanti8494 yes it would be a great modification. It would not be an easy process as I imagine it wouldn't bolt straight in. Trying to sort out the electronics would be a nightmare. Probably the easiest way is to wait a few years and buy a 119.
Scott Elliott yes that’s my dream. What mpg are you getting in your Vito? Have you ever had an aircon issue with your Vito, mines leaking gas the bloody thing
