Lisa Gade reviews the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16, Wacom’s latest generation pen display with Pro Pen 2, a matte 4K display supporting touch and pen, 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity, wide color gamut, and greatly reduced (if not eradicated) parallax. Very impressed that you did your research on how to push 4k with Wacom Link (for those who don't have USB-C), especially since the workaround of buying a 4k-rated DP to mini DP cable isn't officially supported by Wacom. It's baffling how so many casual owners of this device [who have written negative reviews] haven't bothered to look up this solution with a simple "cintiq pro 4k" search on RU-vid/Google. Thanks for being thorough. I also appreciate that you gave an update on the pen jitter issue that's plagued this device for half a year, which has been a highlighted flaw in most reviews prior to July.

Honestly, I don't blame buyers. Wacom should've included a better DisplayPort cable in the box instead of telling folks to wait until they offer one for sale.

Still, display port is not "that common" ports, especially on laptops. I cancel my plan to buy Cintiq Pro 13 because of that, and the idea having to buy another active adapter (which may or may not work, with varies result in quality) doesn't help.

Bizarre mistake by Wacom to not be clearer about how to get the best out of their very expensive product, and not include better cables. Most consumers just take the manufacturers 'word' for it that what they provide with the tablet, will get the best out of the tablet, especially when it costs this much.

It's good to see Wacom to finally jump into the competition on this market. While I still feel the price is still too high, it's actually a good step in the right direction.

Shawn Harris WAY too high. I was able to get my 16BG 1TB Memory Laptop with 4K Resolution for $800 - and this was a few years ago, and my laptop still works perfectly. 😬 You should just get the Wacom Cintiq 16 (Non-Pro) for $600 something dollars, or the on-sale GAOMON PD1560 for $288, if price is a barrier for you. Only get the tablet in the video if you need really accurate colors or 4K resolution on the tablet itself. With my tablet, although it’s not 4K, its colors are really accurate (more so than my computer, it matches my iPad almost exactly), so if I need super detail, I just look back and forth between my 4K computer screen and my tablet; it’s not as troublesome as it sounds. Just get the Wacom Cintiq 16; this product is not worth it (and the reviews on Amazon are really bad, it’s only 2.5! 42% of the reviews are one star, and this reviewer happened to be in the percentage that actually worked well... Even the GAOMON has 4.3 stars rating, and it comes with lots of accessories that I still combine with my current device even now such as the smudge guard). AVOID THIS PRODUCT IF YOU CAN.

A lot of people are complaining about the price. If you want quality, you pay more. I've seen reviews on other brands and none of them seem to have the 4k display, the lack of parallax, true color pallet, etc. If you want to do professional quality work, this seems like the best option for that.

This has been very helpful. I have decided I'm going to be returning my Huion Kamvas Pro 16 and invest in a wacom cintiq pro 16. I'm having issues with pressure sensitivity with my huion and it has been very irritating. Whenever I go to sketch in photoshop it makes a big thick line that throws off the sketch. What is even weirder is that I am not applying any pressure and you can see it when I draw a line. I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, made sure I have the latest update, calibrated my tablet as well as adjusted the pressure settings in every direction and I keep getting the issue. It almost seems to be a glitch and I don't know what is causing it. Anyways, your review helped a lot. Thank you so much! It's nice to watch a review from someone who not only knows what they are talking about but who also gives an honest review on these tablets.

Thanks for mentioning the screensize and if it has touch and also if it has a computer in them, most reviews forget them and it is a big deal to us because we know if it has no computer it's cheaper, cause most pen displays nowadays look alike, even some reviews of a display with a computer reviews still plug them on a PC so you can't really tell if it has a computer or not. Also, the parallax. sometimes people confuse the spec requirements on the website as saying it has a computer inside, pardon for my english, it's not native here.

Hi. I have the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 in and the 2020 M1 Mac mini running Big Sur. Plug the power cord into the right side of the tablet. To get 4K out of the tablet, use the Wacom USB to USB cable that comes with the tablet and plug one end into the top left of the tablet, and the other end into either of the Mac mini Thunderbolt ports. Only the top left of the tablet will give the tablet 4K.

Thanks for the great review, as always! I was wondering how you came up with the great color gamut for sRGB and Adobe RGB. I could only measure 88% sRGB and roughly 90% Adobe RGB, which is an absolute shame for a display this expensive and claiming 100% sRGB. Telling from a few reports online, I don't seem to be the only one with such lackluster results. Any tips on how you calibrated / measured the Cintiq would be greatly appreciated! :) Also: I had no problem getting 4k @60hz with the included cables and the Wacom Link. Just turn the Cintiq off and on (PC needs to be at least booted to the lockscreen) and it'll switch to 4k.

Thank _god_ there's bonded/laminated glass. The air gap on the older Cintiqs, particularly, the Cintiq 13HD, had such a horrible air gap, and lousy seals around the edges. Large dust pieces lie beneath the screen, with no practical way to clean it. It's about time Wacom used bonded displays on their Cintiqs to remedy this.

Awsome review Lisa! Great news that the line jitter is fixed, and that you can get 4k through the Wacom Link by replacing a cable! Just not sure about the fan... Products are never entirely perfect, are they? :-)

love the vid lisa! if you compare this display to drawing on the ipad pro and surfce pro and dell canvas complete with color gamut and contrast brightness comparisons i would be ever so excited to see more of this product....i think it might be what im looking for....then i can choose a gaming pc of my choice and then have this to draw on.....but it has to be always connected right? i couldnt wander about the house and draw....hmmm....adobe says photoshop will have full function on ipad pro by next year....so theres that

Really great review! One question. My laptops thunderbolt port is also the charging port. If I were to use the USB cable, can the tablet also do power delivery or would I be stuck with what ever battery I have?

Thanks for the great review! Can you tell me what laptop you are using here with the Cintiq? I couldn't get the usb-c connection to work with a Dell XPS 9570 for some reason (Dell or Wacom support couldn't resolve the problem), so I returned the laptop and now I'm looking for an alternative. I'd love to use just the usb-c, without the wacom link. I guess Macbook Pro is a good option, but the price is ridiculous for the kind of model I would need...

DisplayPort 1.2, preferably a certified one (some don't actually meet spec). I believe mine is an Accell and wasn't expensive on Amazon.

I just have to admire how Wacom always pushes the envelope. Even if they are just slightly better than the competition, it's always where it matters. They also don't really drop much in price, so I can only gaze from a distance while scraping up money for an XP-pen instead. I'll hate it and curse it and it tell it the Wacom is so much better. But it'll do. It'll do...

Good and thorough review. The best point for me is that it's advantage over an all in one is that as operating systems require newer processors you can upgrade your computer and still keep the Wacom .I may want to look into this because that's an issue I'm beginning to face. As far as price it seems very reasonable to me since I am a professional and being up to date and somewhat portable is important. The machine pays for it's self. Of course it may be too much for a hobbyist .

For anyone thinking of a Huion. I just got the GT221Pro and it bricked right out of the box(USB/driver unresponsive). Customer service is horrid...they wanted me to video tape myself setting it up, to make sure I was doing the installation correct...Really? Now I'm looking at Wacom - their QC is next level in comparison to Hong Kong.

Hi Lisa, I'm thinking about buying a Cintiq Pro 13, and my only doubt is regarding its compatibility with my computer. Unfortunately I'd prefer to focus on buying a super good drawing device and not a new computer, and I'm currently working on an Intel i5 Lenovo IdeaPad 310 with an 8 gb RAM - so, a laptop, not a desktop. By looking at the requirements it looks like everything would be fine, but do you think a Cintiq Pro would run at least decently on the laptop I've got right now? Thank you!

Love your review! I have the same setup as this. I’m getting frustrated because in many cases instead of the brush working properly with the stylus it’s moving the screen in Photoshop. Any suggestions? It also does the same this with touch off.

I had the same problem with another cintiq model, I fixed it by uninstalling the latest Windows update. Hopefully it'll fix your problem too!

I've heard that even a slight bump to the cable connected to the cintiq can cause it to lose signal and even revert back to QHD. Has that happened to the review unit during tests?

Hey! I'mtrying to understand, If you use lower res (such as 1080p) do you get a blurrier image compared to using 1080 on a native 1080 screen? Because i'd want to get the 16" instead of 13" just because of the screen size is bigger so more workspace ofc, but i am worried the screen will be blurry if i use 1080 p on it ( my laptop only supports up to 1920x1080p)

@@dunjapaj8849 Ej Dunja :) Vrlo je subjektivno, ali svakako mogu da podijelim svoje iskustvo. Kao neko ko nije vrlo statican, nikako mi nije odgovarao. Sta mi je najvise smetalo su gomila kablova, i ne toliko glatko iskustvo koriscenja (koliko sam ocekivao za taj novac). Nisam siguran koliko su daleko otisli danas, ali u to vrijeme sam imao priliku da probam iPad Pro i Apple-ovu olovku i odnos je bio nebo i zemlja. Mislim da je Apple sa tom olovkom dostigao nesto priblizno savrsenstvu. S druge strane, Cintiq 16 je svakako ozbiljna alatka i velicina je vise nego dovoljna. Jednostavno nije bio za mene. Prodao sam ga i vratio se na Bamboo Pen & Touch... Mislim da mnogo toga zavisi od vrste "posla" i samog nacina rada.

@@vanjarakic93 A tako. Eh, vidiš, nedavno da uzela iPad pro 12" upravo radi mobilnosti (i Procreatea), da mogu raditi neke sitnice i kada nisam 'doma za stolom'. Onda sam našla app za iPad koji simulira rad Cintiqa (spojim tablet kabelom na komp i ispucava mi sliku za iPad), fora radi al opet to nije to. (EasyCanvas se zove i guba je.) Zato sada mozgam dal jednog dana uzet famozni Cintiq 24", čisto za rad od doma, i pitala se dal je manji 16" uopce ugodan za rad. Hvala na savjetu. :)

Hi there!! May I know which system and connection are you using? I am trying to connect my cintiq pro 13 to a 2018 Dell XPS 15 which has an in-built thunderbolt port. The display is getting turned on but the pen input is not getting registered. Neither is the tablet being recognised by the laptop as a display device. Could it be specific to the laptop model I am using (please note that the tablet worked fine on a MacBook Pro 15 which also has thunderbolt ports and not the normal USB-C ones)

My daughter loves drawing so I've purchased her this for Christmas. She is only five years old but great at drawing and painting (she gets it from her dad). I'm excited for her and the art work she is going to create. She is quite responsible for her age so I believe she will take good care of it. But my son is three years old and I will have to keep him away from it 😂😅.

i have a question: Pro Pen 2 (which is used on Cintiq Pro, Intuos Pro and MobileStudio Pro tablets) have very fast Pens nibs wear on Intuos Pro tablets with default surface texture sheet - so how is nibs wearing on Cintiq Pro? - i'm on a fence what to choose, and this is one of important factors.

I wish I got this instead of the Intuos Pro large, I just cant get past the feeling of disconnect by having to watch the pc monitor while moving my hand to draw, especially compared to the Ipad Pro2 that I recently bought which is awesome except the lack of access to adobe programs.

Hello. I bought this pen display based on your stellar review, BUT the unit I was sent, the screen does not have a smooth finish, but is blotchy with random patches of rough areas. This is a problem.. especially if we are spending $1,600 (including tax) to buy this. Did anyone else experience this issue?

My biggest beef with this tablet is that i always have to reach around and over it to get at my mouse and my arm pushes the switch tablet off and draw on your main display mode soft button without realizing it. Also whenever you are playing a video game and it changes your resolution you have to wait for your monitors to play a game of flickering for a minute or so while you wait for your monitors to adjust. It's kind of annoying becuase if you're talking on discord on a voice call you will have to sit there and patiently wait for your audio to cut back in before you can talk. Also I bought a 4k dp to mini dp cable and i still only can get 2k on it not sure why. Still besides all that when Im just sitting infront of it and drawing on it I love it

can't believe i spent a fortune on one of these particularly for fine detail with 4k, am trying to draw with a bloody great cross hair in the way of every stroke sometimes can get rid of the cross hair but still stuck with a pointer in the way, spent 2 hours today searching for a solution everywhere on the net, seems absolutely ridiculous that there is no way to get rid of it !

what is the difference between the cintiq HD 13 vs the cintiq pro 13? I think I will buy the old one but I what to know what is the difference.

Im looking for a good android tablet but the Nvidia Shield is apparently discontinued.. (ik sad) any good options? I dont really like the samsung tabs btw, the OS skin and bloatware are mediocre
