La primera vez que escuché esta música fue cuando tenía 16 años y me la pasó un amigo monje benedictino alemán en un cassette (sí, un cassette!). Esta música es el pináculo del genio de Richard Wagner. Es música de otro mundo.

6:40 through to the end is so completely entrancing. Wagner was a genius among musical geniuses.

one wishes that it could go on and on... and develop even more towards those magnificient bars in the middle. but wagner knew his timing--if the music was to go on and on, it would become so perfect (yet so inigmatic) that it would most likely distract everyone in Bayreuth

Quando Parsifal estreiou em 1882 , o consenso geral entre os músicos e amigos de Richard Wagner era que depois desssa obra prima miraculosa ele já não tinha mais lugar no mundo , que não poderia escrever nada melhor e que iria em breve falecer. Wagner morreu em 13 de fevereiro de 1883 .

Levine's Wagner was always irregular and lacks any "German" flavour. The cast includes many of the names that were famous in the 90's, when casting any Wagner opera was a nightmare. All in all, this recording is very far from any Kna or even Karajan, Solti, Barenboim, etc.
