The Wahl Five Star Detailer is a great clipper for shaves, designs and detailed work. The Wahl 5 Star Detailers are very easy to sharpen and set. "Zero Gapping" and clipper sharpening is a great idea for the Wahl Detailer and it should be done for the best results. Check out my other videos on clipper sharpening.

I actually asked Wahl rep. the same question and although the motors are the same, the shape of the blades apparently not, so the clipper combs according to the rep. are not matching.

Thank you for watching, You need a course sharpening stone and an Arkansas stone, you can order online.

They are the same exact clipper, wahl markets them differently and changes the color of the cases but the motor is the exact same.

Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate your views. You need to be very careful when you use this technique and if you grind the blade too many times the teeth will become dull. 8-10 stokes on each stone should be enough.

David Warren: artificial stones (see Shapton, DMT, Trend, Norton) achieve finer grit and greater consistency than Arkansas Black stone you mention. One can't do too many honings with a flat stone though, as the blades have a concave / hollow curvature.

Wahl Detailers are one of the hardest trimmers to adjust!!!! I'll stick with the Andis T Outliners.

I noticed you only sharpened the bottom blade. Is the the only one that cuts? Also could you get a cleaner cut if you were take the same steps with the top blade that your so the bottom?

I had a question on another one your videos about sharpening blades and I can remember trying this before but looking back I probably did it to long. The blades didn't cut right after that and I think I used to much pressure while pressing down on the stone.

Do you happened to know whether the attachment combs from the Wahl Compact Rotary Clipper will fit into this Wahl 5 star detailer? Detailer comes with 3 combs and Compact comes with 6.

Yh don't zero gap it all the way. A good way of checking is placing your thumb over the 2 blades if it's smooth it should be good. Remember, don't press too hard or drag them. Do light taps to get the line up and then use the back of the blade to remove hair.
