Just a note: hero offers no speed advantage over zerker for ross since Fighter gives 0 speed despite hero giving 2, and pirate and berserker bith give 1each

Fun fact about Ross, the journeyman class has a mistake in it's hair palette for the melee animation, for a couple of frames on the return swing his hair changes colour to brown.

In my opinion, Sacred Stones is probably the only game where leveling up trainees has very little risk. Sure, the turn count is gonna be lengthened due to needing to feed them kills, but the game is easy enough that you're really not gonna be putting any of your units at risk of death unless you mess up REALLY badly.

Ross is a great example of availability being key. On Ephraim hard mode, Amelia and ESPECIALLY Ewan come way too late and with too low stats to be of use, but Ross comes early enough for his growths and extra potential to be worth it. He can be great, but he's not essential.

personally, the reason Ross is one of my top 5 favorite units is the parallel between the whole "zero-to-hero" archetype and his own backstory and progression. seeing Ross actually complete his goal of surpassing Garcia is heartwarming, and many of his support convos are a lot of fun.

Interesting but accurate take! It could be my nostalgia glasses, but I remember whenever I played through SS, my Ross would generally be speed blessed. Its nice to see some love for the little hero! I would request a WAIFU on Erk of FE7, if you even glance at this. He is a character I favor due to personal reasons, but I've said my graces on him on previous videos of you and Mangs comparing him to Nino and Pent, and even on BLAZINGKNIGHTS underrated character videos (something to that effect..) Either way, thank you for the research as always, Mekkah, good luck with your future insights!

Ayyy Ross's WAIFU is finally here! I'm happy to see how much these videos have improved over time. This one had stellar scripting, organization, and interesting supplementary video. It's great to see how much the quality of your analyses has improved, and I'm excited to see how much better they get in the future.

I love your videos Mekkah , its always refreshing to see how units measure up while taking into account early and mid game as much or more then endgame which i think makes a big difference in game play, i would say that in the case of Ross you didn't mention how the game was designed to make lvling him super easy even on hard mode you can have him rdy to promote right after chapter three do to using the hatchet behind walls on most enemy's on the map so you really don't have to baby him much

Just 11 seconds into the video and i'm already laughing, it's amazing

I was expecting a never ending playthrough video playing in the background while Mekkkah talks but is served with good production quality video at 1080p 60fps instead.

So some of my Favourite things about Ross is his join time, classes, his ability to grow and his supports (firexfire with his father). So Ross to a non LTC or Speedrun is completely able to to reach level 10 in hard mode by the end of chapter 3. the amount of enemies with out 2 range across from walls his very easy to farm him to level 10 if you want to use him and he will face very little danger. Yes this involves playing slow, but other units are still very much capable without the chapter of xp (vanessa maybe being an exception). After chapter 3 comes Chapter 4 (Shocker) which has a lot of undead units which is essentially training grounds for your units making it easy again for ross to get levels to get out of trainee or to catch up on levels as a base tier. The low stats and decent hp on the undead make it pretty easy to protect ross and give him a field day. Outside of this chapter if Ross isnt promoted to base tier I typically bench him by this point and the hatchet will end up with dozla or garcia. Like Mekkkah had mentioned, its fun to watch a unit grow and I think ross is the perfect unit to do this with' because of this join time making it so easy for him to level without using optional grinding (skirmishes or tower/ruins). Another Aspect of Ross that I like is his fire affinity and his fathers fire affinity kinda patching some of the rough spots they both can face. Double fire Afinity with each rank of support will give +1 str +5 hit +5 Evasion +5 Critical. I will say I am completely biased towards Garcia and I think he stands out as one of the best units in the game (but thats another topic entirely). Particularly I think Ross benefits the most from the hit and critical of the support bonuses with evasion and str being a nice addition. Ross will pretty much always be ok on the str department but extra str almost never hurts, but holy crap does ross suck in the skill department and using things outside of the hatchet early on can become a shaky nightmare for those of us who like solid hitrates (one reason I like to get Ross to Hero personally for the swords hit rates). Granted +2 skill isnt much from the early secret book every bit will help and one reason I like to go for the firexfire support as well. For me, If a unit takes a lot of resources and still continues to be bad just by averages or such, they arent worth the upkeep. Investing stat boosters into ross is something I wouldnt recommend because there are other units that can make much more use out of them, and because of the nature of trainee units and his shaky growths, Ross is especially prone to being shafted and becoming unusable, So for me, Is Ross a good unit? Definitely far from it, but because of his early join time and a rather fast growing support with Garcia I find him useable In most cases. On another note, Garcia is completely busted for how I play (although not by much, play style is slightly more credible than personal experience in my opinion. Many people can have a similar play style, only you can have your own personal experience) and I love that Garcia gets firexfire support with Neimi (who I love to use) and Ross, and Garcia's shortcomings are easily fixable, although it does mean sacrificing stat boosters to Vanessa for those that rely on fliers. Few speed penalties come from Garcia with his nice con, and with the extra damage and hit rate of fire supports Garcia doesnt need much outside of Iron Axe, Hand Axe or a Killer Axe. Garcia Has a beautiful amount of HP but defense can be a bit shaky, so the early draco shield goes to Garcia always. With this and maybe the secret book I think Garcia is set, and if he gets a bit screwed just take Amelia's speed wings. So if I had to choose Garcia or Ross, It will always be Garcia, but when using Ross, I do it to make Garcia (and Ross) a better unit.

I’m a simple man. I see a WAIFU video, I watch a WAIFU video. Watching any of Mekkkah’s content is most definitely NOT a pitfall. Being a bald Norwegian though... XD

Wow production value has improved so much! Really good video, glad Ross is being recognized for water walking which I dont see being praised as much as his strength cap or crit bonus as a Berserker. If you are interested, maybe so a WAIFU on gen1 and gen2 lesser played cavalry units? I have seen the pitfall video with Midayle, Alec, and Noishe but maybe seeing how units like Lester and Dalmund can be good as well?

In my very recent experience of playing a sacred stones emulation, I can say that having and using Ross is a boon, granted, I do save scum for good stat growths but that's more of a personal thing than me meta gaming. Ross is one of the units I don't save scum for, he has been a reliable member of the team, and I feel like a big reason why Ross outshines the rest of the Trainees all comes down to availability. He comes into play at Chap. 3 and you don't recruit another trainee until you picked your route and are already 3 chapters in; the unique quirks of his class progression also gives him an edge. Because of this I feel like the Trainee characters in Sacred Stones are introduced poorly as Ross come in the early game while the rest come in midgame. I feel like the Trainees could have been better if they had some sort of system that gives you the option to recruit a specific trainee unit through player choices. In the end you get all three, but when you encounter them is up to your choices. And as one last note they should have all been encountered in the early game.

great video. i would like to see too an is bad in general as a series in contrast to w.a.i.f.u ewan seems nice for an analysis. but also sacred stones keep me thinking what other class would be the lords if the lord class were just like a "don't kill" unit.

Awesome video, thanks for the quality content as always Hmm...Going for the Thracia vote here, I nominate Leif and/or Salem. Leif because I feel he has a reputation as an awful lord when he’s pretty useful for support and combat early on, though maybe that perception has changed (speaking only for in FE5) And Salem because some see him as bad because dark magic isn’t great in FE5 and growths but his staff rank and class help him. Dunno, just some thoughts

Ahh yes, this was an excellent video, well informed and executed in a fantastic way giving the information while also reinforcing the fact everyone is free to do whatever they want and to like the units they like. There's absolutly NOTHING missing from this video... Wait... Actually, now that I think about it, Mekkah did forget to mention the most important stat of all during this great analysis. And that would be the facial hair stat. Its quite easily missed by most unexperienced players but to us most observent of the fe community, this is without a doubt the most important stat you must take into consideration. For this, one must not simply look at numbers but actually use the once thought pointless feature of the portrait. While at first glance may seem to have no gameplay impact, this is the crucal element needed to find this very important statistic. In the case of these two units, Garcia and Ross, upon further investigation, the data found is quite blatant. I mean, Ross has a minus Facal Hair stat while Garcia has almost caped by base. He's only beaten by other goddly bearded units like Athos, time skip Hector or Marcus which are true S tier units. You now know why these units are looked up too in such high regard now. You're welcome. While some may argue that Ross has good brush growth cause of his father's gene which may allow him to surpase him. Saddly, hair growth is a slow stat that can never be leveled up in the time one may spend during the events of the game no matter how long a person decides to play as time is relative to this universe and can never be brought fowards. What this means is that during the events of most Fire Emblem games hair growth is set to zero and all we're left is with are the base bush levels . The only thing which can bring this growth into the game are ingame cutscenes which are more powerful then any statstic or even Kaga himself. I'm sorry to say, but numbers don't lie and so do bases. So, in conclusion, Garcia is just the the better unit during the events of the Sacred Stones and Ross just can't compare with his dad's great sideburns and beard. I do hope that today I have not only taught something to newer players but also brought this very important fact to some unbeknownst veteran players as this is trully the most important statistic in all of the series. (Anyways, don't let your dreams be dreams, just use your favorite units no matter how amazing or objectively bad they may be as long as it makes you happy

Man, I love Ross, since the beginning I felt like "I have to make this kid grow strong", and the result is so satisfying. Also it has some good support conversations, when he speaks tu Lute? Hilarious

First, I would like to note it's extremely easy to level ross in the map right after you recruit him, where you get colm. Every enemy is behind a wall and doesn't have 2 range except for a far-off archer, so ross can pepper them with his hatchet easily and get to level 10. Second, the ocean seal you need to become a berserker would otherwise just go to colm, who doesn't particularly need the ability to open locks without lockpicks, and you also get rennac almost immediately after getting the ocean seal, so colm is kind of overshadowed. There really aren't any places in sacred stones that require two thieves. Unless you need to sell the ocean seal it's pretty much just for ross. Third, he's the only trainee who doesn't particularly the tower to level grind in, due to the aformentioned colm map. Since I don't use the tower in my runs anymore, this is a big deal for a trainee unit, since...it means I can actually use him.

I feel like this is also a WAIFU for Garcia, which I'm okay with, since Garcia is a goodish and interesting unit who often gets overlooked. As for other units to do WAIFU on, I'd like to see one on Lowen. Not necessarily one of my favorite units, but one I feel gets overlooked for various dumb reasons.

When you are doing the final stat comparison between berserker ross and hero Garcia... I think expected damage on an average enemy would also help. That way we can have a more visible look at how the crit bonus affects Ross. I know you mentioned it during earlier parts... But during the stat comparison crit is no where to be seen and i believe it's something worth comparing at that point. It doesn't change the overall analysis much though.

Nice video, although you didn't talk about the promotions items since Ross need or a Ocean Seal or a Hero Crest to promote to a Berserker or a Hero respectively, while the Ocean Seal has less competition (Only Colm, and he is fine has a Thief) and you can get it very earlier, the Hero Crest by other had has more competition with Garcia or Joshua (and Marisa, but let's be real is not very optimal to use on her) need it him to promote, and also you can get later, especially in Eirika route when yo can get one in Ch.14 (Or in 12 if you don't promote Gerik, not a good idea tho), while in Ephraim route you get one one chapter later than the Ocean Seal, so I would recomend going to Berserker so you don have this problem with promotions items. TL,TR Promote to Pirate/Berseker, cause Ocean seal has no competions and you get it earlier.

I usually use axe lad and axe dad together because I like axe units and they get a super fast A support with good bonuses. It's fun to see Hero Garcia and Berserker Ross together, because their classes match each others' portraits, but are rather ill-fitting for their own. Ross's skinny kid portrait is particularly funny for the giant, muscly berserker sprite.

Another reason for making Ross a berserker is that he won't have a lot of competition for promotion items.

Idk man in my experience luck is the best stat because it allows me to use the devil's axe. Which is the sole determining factor when I look at what unit I want to use.
