Over 20 years ago we stayed at Tom Araki's hotel in Waipio. There was an extensive taro field behind the hotel and Tom's family came every weekend to malaga it. Last September we heard that they were running a restaurant in Kaimuki Oahu and we went for lunch and wala'au. That was nice. When we were in Waipio, Tom prepared some dry land taro for us, which I thought was delicious & it went with the sake we brought for him. He suggested that I walk his dogs while my husband took a nap. So I took his elderly dogs and walked a fair amount into the valley. Because I had Tom's dogs, I was not hassled & I was sure that was why he had me take them. Everyone knew those dogs and the dogs knew the route back. We so enjoyed our 3 days down there and I wonder if the taro lo'i is still there. I think poi can be a solution to hunger for homeless, jobless people. Thanks for showing this. Oakland CA 2020

fantastic video. You're a good man Morgan, great to hear your passion in maintaining our Polynesian culture. I live in the tropics of Australia and grow talo here. Originally from Samoa, no matter where we go, we always want our talo. Alofa from a Samoan in Australia.

I remember going to see my grandma in Waimea, she was always loaded down with poi. She loved the stiff. I tried it but it's not my jam.

Lee Sugai you are so true and he needs to be stopped. He tries to shine this light but he is full of darkness, what you sow is what you reap and he ruined so much families and lives with what he did in the darkness of Waipio Valley, But remember that our Lord Jesus Christ never sleeps, he sees what is done in the dark, all of his secrets shall be revealed in time.

I would not eat anything produced in that garage. Someone needs to get a health inspector out there for an unannounced, surprise visit. From the little I've seen, this is not proper food handling for public consumption. This whole operation is contaminated. Nasty. And the man behind the operation is very shady. He's always been about make a quick buck. Legal or not. He doesn't care about anyone but himself, his family, and occasionally a few friends. Stay away from him and hold on to your land and leases. Some of what's been said about him is rumor. While other stuff is fact. Either way I don't trust him, nor should you. And don't consume anything from this operation. Mahalo
