My family in Nashua NH is the Dustin family related to the infamous Hannah Dustin you speak of. Thank you so much for making this. You shared details I hadn't heard before. There is also a memorial stone in Nashua NH regarding John Lovewell and Hannah Dustin. ♡
You can imagine the rage of a mother who has seen her newborn's head dashed against a tree. Lesson then, lesson now. Don't F with a momma bear. Too bad that statue is vandalized. Agree or disagree with what took place it's history. I live in NH. We knew this story in elementary school, early 70's. I doubt it's even part of the curriculum today. It might hurt feelings.
My 8th great grandmother Sarah was 9 when her mother Hannah was kidnapped. It's hard to judge her as she is my ancestor. How would I have reacted to being taken, watched my newborn murdered and have no hopes for ever seeing my family again? However, it is not hard to deny that earlier settlers right up until a little over 100 years ago, were the cause of the massive genocide of native Americans. I would venture to say they were all victims.
If europeans come to america what do you think will happen is like some one goes to your home and take it english don’t have any right to come here nor Spanish is crazy what happen here
it's part of history good or bad in your opinion.... everyone has the right to their opinion... it was a wild time back then everyone was just trying to survive in my opnion.... just found out about this from my Cousin that she was my great great grandmother or great great great but my dad, his brother and his sister are listed in the Burtonsville Heritage Geneaogically Speaking Book George Burton Shover was my dad his brother was Clifford and his sister was my Elizabeth Beulah Virginia Duston born May 7 1859 was my grandma
She didn’t just kill the man who did that to her baby. She also killed 6 children, in their sleep. And took their hair for 50 pounds. Justice being served is a vast understatement. She was an awful person. Atun shei studios just uploaded a great video about her, recommend that you watch it. Also may I state that his video is told from both sides as per the story being untellable from an unbiased perspective.
@@brittanyhayes1043 I’m not trying to defend the people who killed Hannah Dustin’s child. I am not trying to defend Hannah Dustin after killing six of their children. They were both shitbags who don’t deserve statues.
@@James2005. Hannah Dustin deserves a statue to remember history as it was. And her story was that. A concequence of King Philips War. That includes keeping the hatchet and keeping the sculpts in it place. It's to remember history. The Albenaki can have there statue too but leave the Hannah Dustin one ALONE!
I’m halfway though “Massacre on the Merrimack” by Jay Atkinson. To have a legit opinion on this matter, you have to read it first. Yes-The native Americans were wronged in more ways to count by the European “invaders”. And, rightfully so, they fought back...and many NA tribes were out and out primitively and heinously vicious. The Iroquois and Abanakee (who kidnapped Hannah and slaughtered her family) were savages-literally-who would kill, butcher and eat their perceived enemies. To see what they did to Hannah, especially her newborn baby girl, Martha, would make any person, on either side of the NA discussion, do whatever was necessary to escape the fate that was awaiting them after they were kidnapped. The “scalping” of the NA’s who she killed sounds barbaric to a person in 2022 but, in 1697 it was a common method, STARTED by the NA’s, to collect a bounty from whichever governing authority was paying. Trust me-read the book.
There is an effort underway to not only preserve the statue but also add a Native American statue/monument nearby. Local indigenous people are involved in this effort as they want to see history not only preserved but the education of it fully and completely told. I am helping them in this effort. Good video.
If you want to know more about the overall context of Hannah Dustin story and of New England history, I recommend this great video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-awYRxDfXLms.html
She did kill 6 innocent children in their sleep. You are obviously Christian. So what happened to an eye for an eye. You would rather an eye for two eyes, two arms, and two legs?
@@James2005. Hannah was justified in this situation. She thought her family was totally wiped out. She needed the money and unfortunately the children's heads added a few extra pounds to survive in that environment.
@@James2005. I'm also glad I'm a Christian too so I wouldn't do the same she did in the past. But you have to understand, this was the result of the past.
