Wade, great review! You’re detail had helped me tremendously settle on the right kayak for me. I don’t paddle in your part of the country but 1 day we will find ourselves on the same stretch. Keep up the great reviews.
This made me very excited to try mine out this weekend! Thanks for the great review as always! Also, my thigh braces are much sturdier vs the calleva demo boat. Probably just an issue with the very first boats.
Yes it was i actually know another guy that got one and I seen it yesterday and looked at it and his was rock solid so I did mention that it was a early demo version thanks for the feedback John
Looks like an amazing down river boat! Fast, carves, surfs...the fact it doesn't look like a person could throw the bow in the air kinda defeats the whole point of a half slice though. Thought the 🌶 was it, then I put my hopes on waka, now I'm happy I ordered a new ripper.
Yeah I was surprised they went after the downriver style you have to work really hard and have. Perfect spot to get this one vert even the guy that was in the green steeze tried it out and he is 200lb and has a powerful stern stall and he struggled
I think you were spot on Wade. Got my new boat out yesterday and it was awesome surfing, river running, and the BOOFS!! It was a little harder to squirt than I expected especially because I am 190 lbs (partly the width of the stern I think compared to say a Rewind) but all around the boat is a performance machine and super comfortable. Also I have the black color and my thigh braces are much more rigid than yours on that demo as you said. So psyched with the boat overall and thanks for the reviews as always! Would love to hear your thoughts on a comparison with the Rewind given the very similar specs if you get a chance.
Glad I was on par with you on the review thanks for the feedback I appreciate that and I was was surprised also like you that it was actually really difficult to get the tail down I have a decent stern stall and this boat was very difficult to get vert but dam the river running was next level
I’m around 190 and thinking about picking up a used Goat. Looking for a fun surfing river runner for class III-IV mostly. Are you still liking yours? -thanks
Yeah I still love mine. Most comfortable boat I have ever had and it is a nice middle ground boat that surfs and squirts but is really good for running rivers. I’d say it would be great for what you want it for which is a fun river runner that surfs. Definitely try one out as it is a different boat depending on your weight but at ~200lbs I really enjoy it.
@@davids6652I've just Pulle the trigger on one and I've demoed it multiple Times over the last half year. With some technique you are surely gonna be able to get it up (I can whip it around decently easy with the seat back one at 150 pounds)
Awesome review. I have just bought a goat and I love it! I’ve not had any problems with it going vertical on me without my wanting it too but I’m still a bit nervous to take it on higher volume or steeper runs with higher consequences of getting it wrong. In you opinion how is the boat likely to react?
Hey Wade, thank you for the reviews. I’m wanting to get into kayaking and your videos have definitely helped me in my research. What would you recommend for a beginner like me @ 5’6” and 170lbs?
just starting out and at what you told me your stats are med dagger kayaks code first jackson Z3 M pyranha machno M if there's something you're looking at let me know maybe can help more
Hey Wade! Love your reviews mate! I’m tossing up between a rewind and a goat as a boat to paddle everything on! Paddling lots of grade 3+/4 and wanting a boat that is going to challenge me and push me to improve my technical paddling! Love a bit of play but also looking at getting a dedicated playful half slice down the line… Im 5’7 and 72kgs without gear! Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks 😊
Hey, I'm in pretty much the same position in therms of 3+/4 water and wanting to challenge my paddling. 85kg and 6'2". And I have a banged up Antixs 1 that I love for playing. I don't paddle big volume, tight scrappy creeks is what I've got. Would you be suggesting the Rewind over the Goat?
Sorry to keep firing the questions, but wondering about how the goat compares to the Billy goat (I have a BG that I'm selling) I'd really like a river runner that surfs well, and ideally with a less catchy tail than the BG, and the ability to pivot a bit more , but keeping the speed & skipping I was going to get a rewind, but none available for months. The other boat available is a scorch, which is pretty different but might also fit the bill? I like the width of the BG
I guess what I'm asking is goat or scorch M ?(both are available) 150 lb, paddling G2/3/4 high and low volume, I want a boat that surfs well, & is fast around the river, with good primary and secondary stability. Less bothered about getting vertical I have a machno for steeper/ harder stuff
Look at the new ripper 2 I don’t know your stats but the ripper 2 has been amazing at a HalfSlice and I’m big fan of the scorch as a creeker but your not pivoting that one
I wish i could see your review on exo rexy. I know that there is like none of them in the us, smh. I bought rexy and would be great for me to see the comparison.
The ophion was my buddy’s demo paddle he is distributing them here in the USA i gave that one back I was just giving him my thoughts on it I have few paddles the one in this video is my favorite play down River paddle the AT super light
At 5:08 you rate its speed relative to other boats. At the end I hear you say "Chili's faster tan all of them by the way." Chili? did I hear you right?
The Flex OMG yes it was brutal I almost fail out the boat On a splat they were so flexing but this was a very early production and WAKA has fixed it from what I seen in my buddy's Goat
Rewind is more balanced play and down river this one is better river running but I recommend the rewind over the goat there’s a reason why it’s so hard to find a rewind right now everyone wants one after paddling it
@@WadeHarrison thanks wade... Yeah exactly... i would wait for rewind for a year... yet waka is available almost imediately... and the price is higher f9r rewind.... huh I have an axiom... im more dagger fan
We are almost the same size i think in the long run you will like the medium ripper better then this because it’s a smaller style boat but does not splat and stren squirt surf as easy
@@WadeHarrison right on cheers bud, I think the one thing that has me hesitant about the ripper is it's only a gallon more in volume than my necky jive. I have paddled it before and had a great time whereas I haven't paddled a goat yet.
Full out river running the shit and decent surfing but hard stern squirts-Goat, river running and speed with some play-ripper, a good mix of play and river running-rewind (best all around), full play with decent river running and slowest-antix 2.0..just my opinion
