My baby napped in his crib for the first time ever! I'm literally dancing round my kitchen, he's 10 weeks old and has taken every nap held or in the carrier. I was feeling so much resentment towards him but decided today things change and he actually fell asleep, I can't believe it!!!

My baby is 3.5 months and stays up usually 2-2.5 hours and only naps for 20-45 mins usually. I feel like if I try to put him down even sooner now his naps would not get longer, I could be wrong. Maybe the proper Wake times just make them sleep better. I will definitely give it a shot!!

Hey Bobbi! At 3.5 months old, we don't want baby to be awake for more than 1.5 hours at a time. This is because baby can get overtired which leads to shorter naps and more restless sleep. You can check out my free schedule generator here! quiz.tryinteract.com/#/5cd320557700810014fc537f

Hi- I just purchased your newborn sleep course. The thing I’m having trouble with is that, my newborn (5 weeks) had a tongue tie revision and takes an hour to eat - the quickest is 45 min. So my baby is supposed to eat and sleep and that’s it? Also, what do you do when the wake time is up but they are wide awake and will not go down for a nap? Thank you

I have a 13.5 MO. Currently working on the 2-1 nap transition (1 week in). He naps for 1H15min. It has not changed even after dropping to 1 nap. This makes it very hard to make it to end of day, and calls for a super early bedtime. Do I just keep consistent and overtime the naps will stretch as it takes weeks for this transition to happen? Anything else I can do? EX: 6:00AM wake up 11:00AM Nap 12:15AM awake 5:15PM bedtime (super early = early morning wakings)

Hi! Thank you for your videos! Quick (and maybe dumb...) question: does the nap durations have to vary depending on age? Or do you just let the baby (newborn in our case) sleep until he wakes up alone?
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep 2 года назад
Hey there! YES! we do cap naps. Even though some people say to never wake a sleeping baby. For newborns, we want to wake them if it is time for their next feed. When they get older, we will wake them to make sure they are not getting too much daytime sleep in one nap.

My baby just turned 5 months and we are sleep training him. I can’t keep him up for more than 2 hours. He is usually so tired by 1.5 hours and there is no way he can go beyond 2 hours. We can barely keep him up after 1.5 hours as he looks over tired. Especially in the day time. His naps are short and I’m assuming he just isn’t well rested but how do I manage this? He is sleeping through the night, wakes up early but goes down after that and I don’t get him until close to 7 am but I can’t keep him up for 2 hours after that.

Hey Sara! You will want to just push through the wake windows. Go outside, use pets and siblings to entertain, play music... anything to keep him awake! He likely will get overtired, but getting to those larger wake windows are key to restful naps and nights!

Hey there, Deb! For newborns, especially during the first 2 months of life, their wake window may be as small as 30 minutes, so its totally okay to put your little one down before the 45 minute mark if they are clearly showing that they are tired!

Hey Steph! When extending wake windows, it is possible that baby may become a little over tired. By following some of your advice my 5 months baby learnt to fall asleep on his own and we have extended nightime sleep to 10-11 hours (by waking him up from naps, because he was sleeping way more during the day than he was supposed to). He recently turned 6 months and if I dont wake him up from naps usually he would sleep in total 4-5h during the day. I'm afraid to go ahead and do the 3 to 2 naps transition for this reason. Also, he wakes 2-3 times during the night for feeds (I guess) and goes right back to sleep. I'm not sure how to resolve that issue? Any advice for those specific situations?
@littlezsleep

Hey Jana! It sounds like he has a great foundation of sleep! Some babies are really good nappers and you will have to wake them no matter what! Hey! Great question. I would actually focus on attempting a nap (rock, baby wear, etc) 45 minutes after they wake up. Check out my Newborn videos about newborn awake windows! Newborns can handle 45-60 minutes awake, and then another nap. But your little one sounds like my first- I had NO idea about awake windows and used to think "I guess I have an alert baby!" but in reality....she was so overtired she couldn't fall asleep!

@littlezsleep 4 года назад
This is a tough transition! I could be okay with 4.5 hours, but that would mean we'd have 5 hours at the end of the day...TYPICALLY it's a 5 hour wake window in the AM and 4.5 hours in the evening around his age. (EX: 7AM awake, 12-2:30PM nap, 7PM bedtime). It actually is common during the transition that he will be cranky as he gets used to the awake windows. It can take up to 6 weeks!
