my mobility scooter battery did this and the supplier gave me a ridiculously convoluted way to solve this issue. your jump idea is brilliant. thank you very much for posting, ya legend
Wow , i was always scared to test the short shutoff. Seemed to work well. I carry one of those portable jumpstarts so will use that next time my lithium goes dead flat. Thanks for the great ideas !
I’ll be sure to go through your catalog of uploads Dino once I eventually change to Lithium mate. As already mentioned by someone else your uploads are always practical and easy to follow mate Hope you are well P.S currently on holidays in QLD with family and have been looking out for your vehicles on the road lol
Cheers jason thanks very much for your continued support. Hope you enjoy your holidays in qld . We have had some cool weather for this time of year if you do see me in the logan area come and say g’day cheers mate 👍🍻
@@EFFICIENTSELF cheers Dino. You always put out good content mate. I’m alittle further up actually mate. Staying at Alexandra headlands mate. Yeah weather hasn’t been too hot but given the weather in Sydney all year it’s better than what I have experienced.
You saved me just now, I think. I just received a couple new lithium batteries and they came with the BMS in sleep mode. They have Bluetooth as well but in sleep mode I can’t connect. I was going to buy a charger that will charge lithium at 0% charge, but I forgot I have a jump starter in the truck! I’m going to do this and see if the BMS wakes up and reads the actual voltage.
Hopefully, it does the trick and you're able to connect via Bluetooth. It's always satisfying to solve a problem with resources you already have. Thanks for watching 👍🍻
Should be able to use any jump starter as you seen I just used the car battery (lead acid) as one example. You only waking up the bms and just only few seconds is needed .. you can even use a solar panel directly to the battery bypassing any solar controller to wake up the bms. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍🍻
I love the smell of shorted lithium batteries in the morning. Even lead acid batteries.... though they only tend to spray a bit of acid as the case cracks open.
Thanks mate my new lithium bms has fallen asleep a few times, overcast days and parked in the garage, so no solar charge, with fridge running. Being new to lithium I was worried I got a lemon, now I know the trick thanks. Last night it got down 1 degree would this also be a trigger for bms sleep mode ?
My blinking light goes off on my ebike battery all i do to get the light back on is supply some voltage to the aux 8 amp connector and it wakes back up. Im not sure even a small amount of voltage will wake the BMS back up ? Looks like you proved this by connecting a 12 volt battery. Have you tried anything less than 12 volt battery?
You should be fine to leave the dc charger connected as your only jumping for about a second just to wake up the bms . I got a battery box and my lithium went flat and I just jumped mine with my dc charger and accessories connected and no problems at all . Thanks for watching 👍🍻
Hi Phil, I have a new voltx 100ah lithium battery and a old 50ah Renogy lithium. Is it OK to connect these in parallel, given the different capacity. Many thanks. Vik
No . It has to be the same battery in capacity and brand for the bms in each battery to communicate with each other . And the by the way my name is not Phil 🤣 . Thank you for watching 👍🍻
I have to questions 1.where can I get a lithium battery monitor and 2. Where can I get one of those discharge units to test battery capacity like you had when you tested the 200ah Lithium battery

@@EFFICIENTSELF thanks mate.. My growatt inverter had an error that wasn't in the manual.. Watched your video and had the idea to check the batteries.. Lucky was able to switch them on via the BMS app
@EFFICIENTSELF thanks for your reply. I have got a new Kia Niro Hybrid car. The battery was flat, and I tried to jump-start it. Now it's not charging. Those vehicles have 12v lithium ion battery 🔋. So I think when I jump-start it, it turns off the BMS. I will try tomorrow and let you know.
What if your battery doesn’t have any of those LCD panels on the top of it? My battery got too cold last night. My CPAP machine shut off and I’m going to die if I go to sleep again because my battery isn’t working 200Ah Giantz LiFePO4
Lithium batteries can temporarily stop working if they get too cold. Only way for bms to make battery function again is for temperature to warm up again. consider having a backup power solution for your CPAP machine, such as a smaller, portable battery pack or a generator, to ensure you don't face a similar situation in the future. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍🍻
be really careful, i had a shorai battery, and tried to put a 2 amp charger on it......came back 30 minutes later and i twas at 13 volts, seemed great, closed the garage, 30 minutes later the battery was on fire! lithium is dangerous, i prefer lead acid anyday to this new technology i never had a lead acid let me down like a shorai
Wow, that sounds intense! Thanks for sharing your experience. Lithium batteries do require careful handling. I’ve had good luck with them so far, but it’s always good to stay cautious.thanks for watching 👍🍻
I just bought a Bluetooth connect li-ion battery E-scooter... Sometimes I notice When I try to turn scooty on it doesn't start.. but battery is enough... It's a 30 amh battery... Then I have to plug the charger to turn scooty on... Don't know what the problem... Please solve.. it will help me a lot
Sorry I’m not an electronics guru but sounds like there might be an issue with the connection between the battery and/or the scooter's electronics. Check to make sure all the connections are secure and free of any debris or corrosion. Maybe it might be best to contact the manufacturer or a professional for further assistance. Hope you get it sorted. Thanks for watching 👍🍻
unfortunately I don’t think you could wake up a 48v with 12v . have a search on RU-vid and possibly you might find some info on doing 48v . sorry wasn’t much help. thanks for watching 👍🍻
@georgesdesk Sadly these clear case batteries aren't splashproof.... the "cute"meter display on the top is a push fit into the case...if any water gets on the top of the battery it goes through onto the BMS. I'm not talking about it not being waterproof... they are not splash proof... which any conventional battery case is. These batteries are advertised as being capable of put in series of up to 4 batteries, to make a 48v battery bank. Unfortunately there is so much variation in internal resistance between batteries that severe imbalance occurs. (Each battery has a BMS intended to balance individual cells in one battery, but there is no balancing between batteries) You can't top balance individual batteries in a battery bank every few days. I bought some cheap, and recommended them to a friend who did the same. We both regret the purchase.... might be suitable for use as single batteries not in series or parallel, where there is no possibility of getting splashed, but not fit for purpose in multiple battery banks.
@@grahamwhittaker8844 What if the cells are Japanese or South Korean etc, the BMS is from Taiwan, USA etc and the plastic case from India or Malaysia? Sure, a lot of stuff comes out of China these days but it's not a given.
