Short walk around of a unique Mercedes G36 AMG from 1997. Below some more information:
• Production:
o “Testing models” produced in 1994 came with modified M103 engine, about 20 were made.
o “Production” models produced from 1994 to 1997 had the M104 engine, about 100 made. Cars for Japan were partnership between Yanase (importing dealer of many special MBs in the 90s) and AMG Japan.
o The G36 AMG was the first car to be produced by AMG during the merge with Mercedes (together with C36 and E36). Only around 120 cars were produced in total, almost all these cars were sold to the Japanese market.
o 120 463.231 LWB G320’s with sales code ZB5 M104 AMG Motor and an additional 3 463.208 SWB Cabrio’s.
109 of the LWB went to the 839 Japanese market.

o 58 of the LWB were 9744 Brilliant (Zircon) Silver
o 23 were 9189 Emerald Green Black
o 18 were 5366 Azurite Blue
o 3 were 0009 Designo Sapphire Black or 9702 Smoke Silver
o 2 were 9199 Blue Black or 3572 Ruby Red or 9149 Polar White or 7721 Onyx Grey
o 1 each of 9040 Jet Black or 9143 Snow White or 6269 Tourmaline Green or 6891 Alexandrite Green or 8481 Bornite Brown. With the last 2 being specified with a special finish
o 1 in 0003 Designo Diamond Black and the other 1685 Yellowstone
• Engine:
o Engine based on 3.2 straight six engines of the G320. Same that w124 E36 based on E320. Only C36 is based on C280.
o Engine code of the hand-build 3.6 by AMG: M104.992. 3.6 stated on the air filter and AMG stated on the engine.
• Gearbox:
o The 4- speed automatic gearbox was modified with gears a little longer than the G320 with the purpose to be the first G-Class achieve 190km/h.
• Differentials:
o 4.8 differentials, Makes it better off road than stock G320 with 4.3 or 4.1 ratios.
• Springs:
o Very soft, can be bouncy, may require different springs depending on your use and liking.
• Electronics:
o ECU is specific to the car, with everything totally maxxed out. Incredible cars also very well constructed, above average even for 90s G.
• Chassis
o based on the W463 G320.
• Exterior:
o AMG side exhaust on the left side of the car
o AMG sticker on the sides of the car behind the rear wheels
o The Japanese importer, Yanase, spec'd the side graphics and rear tire cover graphic. The series one also came in Green and one other dark greyish colour.
• Interior:
o Special AMG guage cluster / speedo
