Moynat lost their creative director a while ago and sadly they are really struggling at the moment and I think they are on their way out in slow motion! The others Joseph Duclos and Delvaux are solid more so Joseph Duclos it will take a while for consumers to really appreciate how amazing a brand it is and at a steal when you consider the phenomenal quality and craftsmanship but let’s give them time to gain traction. Delvaux I’m cautious about because they don’t have a creative director but they seem to be doing well but time will tell. I’m talking about them tomorrow. Can’t wait for more of your content.

I swear I could listen to you talk on the subject for hours. If you ever did a podcast, I definitely would support. Thank you for mentioning that. A lot of these brands are housed under huge conglomerates. It’s a fact that I don’t understand why most people ignore.
Ferragamo and Tod's are excellent quality. I buy mostly shoes from them and they're superb. I have a Tod's bag in real glossed python and the quality is outstanding. I've had this bag for about ten years and it's perfect.
I would always choose understated brands but I would never spend $5-6000 on any handbag because I don't see the value in it for myself. Fine jewelry, yes. I have and would spend on 18kt gold and quality pieces. BUT my hands down choice would be a wonderful trip with my kids and the trips we've taken have been worth every penny. That's just me and I never judge anyone who wants to spend their money on whatever they choose.
The trends come and go but I ignore them. Now gold is out? Crossbody is out? According to Gen Z….ABSURD- I get what I love and experiences are better especially for kids❤
You are lucky that your thrift store has such great prices. Be all of my local thrift stores price everything as if you are shopping at Neiman Marcus. Even if the *preluxz* are not real name brand. That's one reason why I don't go thrifting anymore. Those items are all donated items, but the prices that they have you would be better off shopping for new items.
Thank you for featuring these deserving brands! I enjoyed the video. I went into the Joseph Duclos boutique in Paris a few weeks ago and saw the Diane bag. I also own a Moynat Gabrielle in Taurillon leather. Both JD and Moynat are/were under the same Creative Director who is one of the best in the industry. While I LOVE my Chanel bags, there's no question that the quality and craftsmanship of the Diane and Gabrielle bags are superior. They look, feel and smell exquisitely made. So the answer to your question is YES, I have and will continue to spend my money on these brands because i love the quality. I also prefer bags that are less recognizable and less common.

I think this sudden GUILT we are supposed to feeling for having bags is all ridiculous and complete RELATIVE ! We have sonetimes spent YEARS saving ( yes , not ALL of us have pots of money to spare ) pining , waiting , searching and going without to get them , so WHY should we just dismiss our passion . Even Sophie Sophet says although she is changing her spending habits , she is still proud of what she has and is glad she bought her stuff before the prices went up and the quality went down !! Love this video , you are so right we should think outside the box and cobsider other options . I had a strange dream the other day that everyone went vegan and there were giant piles of unloved Birkins and Chanel flaps sitting in huge warehouses 😮😮 Now THERE'S a thought 🧐 ,who knows what the future will being 😂 , hey our kid ?!! 🥰🥰 x
Faragamo I believe is still family run , had a bit of a recent revival . They are a bit like Gucci with their distinctive gold equestrian clasps , they do great sunglasses , I have a pair , very good quality and a little bit more unusual . I really love Proenza Schouler. I have the medium PS1 in beige with gold hardware and the large PS11 in the same blue as your Birkin with silver hardware. I wear my PS11 every time I want to wear my Reissue. I have not worn my Reissue in three years. EDIT: My Reissue was my holy grail bag once upon a time 🤷🏾♀️
Luxury doesn't equate to designer. Thats the issue I have with the so called "luxury" brands folks talk about. The ultimate luxury is custom work. I don't care about brand, I like the look and arrangement of the item. I am not interested in brand flexing. Thats a silly game. There can be a thousand other of the same right next to me and I am happy with my bag, I don't care if there's a million.
Just to let you know Delvaux and Valextra are extremely popular in Japan. I live in HK and almost everyday I see someone carrying Delvaux. I am very tempted tbh
After much reflection, If I am going to spend $4-7000 on a handbag then I’m guilty of buying a recognizable name. At the end of the day, there are only so many features & functions a handbag can possess. In many ways they are much the same.
I am at Tokyo Shinjuku shopping and I bought a few Ferragamo bags. The quality is nice and quite affordable due to weaker yen against Singapore dollars. I will be returning back to my home country. 😊
Yes i’d buy it if I had the funds. I’m not looking for a bargain, I’m looking for something special that Few people around me have, that’s extremely well-made. I think their prices are in line top luxury every day; so yes. I would buy it.
I find some of these brands very interesting but it is hard to spend that much money on something without being able to see it and feel it. Another brand that I would add to this list is Valextra. I have been interested in their offerings for quite awhile but haven’t taken the chance yet.
If I fell in love with it and knew I’d use it then absolutely I would buy from a lesser known brand. I love an under-the-radar bag and a revived or reinvented brand has an equally, if not more interesting, story. I have a foot in each camp; sometimes I’ll pay to have a share in the history of more well known Houses with a visible logo bag but other times I want the quality and low key vibe from a quieter luxury brand. I simply don’t want to regularly spend that much money - over €5,000 - on a bag. I’d say I like the style of bag first, the luxury aspect second and so I have and use a mix of all prices.
Ferragamo is wonderful and amazingly good quality. I have different types of SF footwear as well as a bag I treated myself to for my birthday. Fantastic customer service, vastly underrated but if you know you know.
Hi Deb, I really appreciated your content today and agree with what you are saying. I have been a fan of LV, Chanel, Prada and Fenid.(Am passing on Dior for now) I recently purchased a Margaux bag and I wondered if I would mind that no one would recognize my bag and if that would bother me. I have been surprised that I actually love carrying the Margaux bag and I am not concerned at all that know one knows what I have. I do feel that the Margaux is a fresh style and from what I can see it has only been copied by Prada. That said, I still do like a popular logo. I also agree that some of these other lines have bags that are really similar to what I have from LV, so it's a pass. Lots to think about when deciding how to spend your hard earned money!
@@Wildunfiltered Hi Deb, I bought the Margaux 10 in black with silver hardware. The leather does not show scratches which I love. I wanted an every day bag, not a tote, since I already have enough of those. This size is perfect for almost any occasion. The handle drop is lovely, long enough to easily carry on the crook of my arm. The color of black is beautiful, kind of dusty. Never thought that a black color could be that different.
I have 3 JdC and 3 Moynat bags. Artisans from Hermes work at both brands and the bags are handmade. I visited both boutiques in Paris and the quality is amazing and the customer reception very warm. I also have Hermes. The Jdc Togo Fontelie bag is the equivalent of a K 32 at half the price. I hope people will explore these brands.
I walked passed JOSEPH DUCLOS in Paris en just kept on walking. So no, I wouldn't buy one for 4000 euros. I like Delvaux, because it's very famous in my region. I have a couple who were still made in Belgium. Love Delvaux. They also make box leather bags.
I'm a little bit annoyed with 'contemporary' brands being called 'low tier'. Poor choice of words. Stitch for stitch, I know the quality of some of my bags beat the pants off a lot of LV, and Chanel with peeling leather! Next time I see Camilla or Catherine carrying a Demellier or Mulberry bag, I'll remember that this is 'low tier'.
@@Robbie_LeMeow I couldn’t agree more. The bulk of my collection is LV but I love my Mulberry’s and I just live for Alexander Wang. They have lasted years. The quality is outstanding. My Alexander Wang’s are currently my most used bags and most complimented. I haven’t worn my Chanel in years and although I do use my LV’s (not as often as I used to). I bought my Noe BB last August and have only used it once despite wanting her for years.
Yes I would spend the money on a Joseph Duclos bag. The quality is amazing. I’m looking at your denim Chanel 19 bag and it’s an expensive bag and it’s made out of denim, not heritage leather. I think some people are brand snobs and want to show off the logos no matter the material or the quality. I’m going to look at these brands you mentioned because frankly I’ve been unimpressed with the new collections this year.
If I had the ready cash for Hermes prices, I'd be more likely to go for an under the radar brand than one that everybody knows. But only if the quality is there. That I don't want my style to shout, I put down to being an introvert - it's a constant for me. The only logo pieces I've gone for has been more about the colour combination than the logo, and even then, I've resisted for ages!
@Wildunfiltered That's difficult as I don't have the cash for Hermes prices, but the brands I do like and would consider buying from are way less spendy. So Pourchet Paris, Le Tanneur, Decadent, Jerome Dreyfuss and Tods are some I like - keep in mind my style is casual and I love a slouchy bag. My two more obvious bags are the Loewe Puzzle and the Gucci Horsebit (all about the colour combination, but if the Jackie had a zip closure, I'd also consider it).
These brands push the ‘heritage’ look and message so hard knowing from their marketing research that many people will fall for it and the pricing is all about signalling to the market they are ‘investment’ pieces. I think they produce decent quality very ugly bags. The monogram patterns are overused and are all about their marketing strategy. I don’t mind logos etc but if that is all a bag offers it’s a massive turn off. We are not walking billboards. Well ‘we’ are at a societal level but personally I don’t want to be one. Bags such as Joseph duclos and Peter Nitz presumably are pitching their bags higher than the well known brands as they don’t have the same overheads as the big brands?
I think you might be blazing a new trail here that could pay off in the "influencer" world....almost seems like a step further than what quiet luxury trends were about.
Not going to pay $5,000 for a no-name brand, period. --Those outrageous prices make them *NO BETTER* than the popular brands prices that we're all complaining about. IMO.
I think a good number of the brands mentioned in this video are worth the $5,000+ because you are genuinely getting your money’s worth in exceptional quality, phenomenal craftsmanship and a very high level of finish and no hype unlike the hugely aspirational LV, Gucci , Chanel etc that can’t compete as they are making significantly higher quantities and therefore not able to make or finish their bags to the same high standard.
I don't get the appeal of paying a lot of money for coated canvas from a luxury brand when I can get a leather tote from a designer maker in a gorgeous colour. I assume most people buy designer because it's more about the brand rather than quality because you can get excellent quality at much lower prices from individual artisans & smaller ethical companies. In my opinion 🤷🏼♀️😁
@Wildunfiltered I bought a leather tote in my favourite colour years ago. Can't remember where from but I've bought various bags over the years from small, ethical companies that hopefully are better at making sure they're not made using slave labour.
Sadly as pretentious as we might seem, when we spend those money, we do want people to know what we spent on. That’s why I think “Quiet Luxury” is rubbish. Quiet luxury is for those who owned too many bags. But having said that, I personally also do not want to spend my money on bags that many others already have. I’m in my 40s, I don’t want to be seen carrying the same bag that a 20 something year old person has, if you know what I mean.
