just finished installing a new door at place because there was an entrapment, it was bad. relief valve froze up and the door sucked itself shut. there was so much vacuum the jaws of life just bent the lip of the door they had to use a saw to cut a hole in the door. the door lock was functioning normally. the PRV is a critical safety device
Love to have some extra content about the pricing on these after hours calls. Everyone’s pricing is different, but general overtime policies and pricing depending on current customer and new customer, etc. etc. Thanks for all you do. I feel your pain on the cork tape. Also everytime I’m on a late call, I always say to myself-I’ll be back tomorrow!!
The cost per hour for labor is based on cost-of-living so a price in Los Angeles may shock someone in Toledo. A good general rule for overtime is (normal hourly rate + $55-85) and minimum labor 2 hours.
Changing the defrost so it happens after they do inventory helps. I have had managers leave the door open while they are doing inventory. I scold them for this but they do what they want when I leave. Leaving the door open is a common problem. Over loading the walk-in is another. Over loading is often ignored but it needs to be addressed. A second walk in is super helpful because they can have a backup when one goes down. The insurance companies that cover the cost of spoiled food should lower rates when kitchens have a half loaded second freezer. Incentive?
As usual a good service call video. I love a sight glass I hate low cords dangling over the defrost heaters. Move them up to the top of the fan brackets. Zip ties do not have to be senched tight to hold a wire out of harms way. leaving them loosely senched makes it easier to cut them off when changing motors. I am not a fan of S0 cord. It does save space on the truck but I prefer stranded THHN-14, in black, red, white and green. Pan cracks can be JB welded & a guard to prevent the product from bumping the pan helps. Large wrap around L brackets can be made from flat steel or aluminum from Lowes.
You handled this great as usual. I do not to refrigeration but chillers, RTUs, split, and CRAC units. But love your content no matter what type of system.
Cork tape is great for things that are irregularly shaped. I recently had to insulate a corrugated flexible line on a ductless split, no other way to effectively do it!
I Can almost bet that vibration noise was coming from the drain pan heater retaining plate those always come loose and begin moving with the fan airflow 🤷🏻♂️. Good video
This might seem a little off topic, but I like that when your title or thumbnail isn't about the problem you are fixing itself it is about something you see while taking care of it. There's a professional electrician I've been following that has been falling deep into the well of bait and seems proud about it.
thank you for sharing your skills and the way you care about your customer. im very lucky when i have your video as a library to learn much on this trade.
When it comes to food shipments, MOST restaurants don't schedule additional staffing on delivery days. Often, we have to pull one of the two people scheduled to check the delivery in. We have to temp the product when it comes off the truck and get it into the walk-ins as quickly as possible in order to get the other half of the crew back on the line. Later, if there is enough staff (or someone willing to stay beyond their shift), the delivery can get properly put away and stock properly rotated to adhere to FIFO (first in, first out).
OK I hate zip tying wires to fan guards, but "needs must when the devil drives" ya know -- never seen the "double zip tie" before -- that's just genius - thanks for that !
They are leaving the door open for hours, multi-tasking, etc. Water condensates on the blades, etc, then turns on like bang bang bang bang, etc. Krack coils do this to me so often in my stores. Blades are thin and change temp fast.
Looks like your defrost termination/fan delay is quirky. I was always taught if there's frost and water droplets on the ceiling means the fans are coming on when the coil is not cold enough to freeze the water on the coil. Your thoughts?
You're right... in a typical.situation with a box that has a well sealing door and when the door isn't being left open. However... in situations like this video where you know for sure the door isn't being closed. And judging by the condition of the box... I'd bet that door seal isn't fabulous. Lol.
Moneygame: Well, if they would get into the habbit of calling you earlier, the money safed on overtime would pay for the drain pan pretty fast :D Same with preventetive maintanace: In the beginning you pay a bit more, but as soon as you are up to date, you safe big because you have way less emergency problems.
The electrial repair was a absolute necessity. That could have been a fire hazard or could have shorted everything out and customer might had to buy whole new unit
Hey Chris , I’m an apprentice, I know you’re busy but do you have any videos on making proper electrical connections, crimping , wire stripping, etc. thanks
By the way Chris, I think you tube software system is reading the video, audio and comments? A little more Matrix Reloaded? I might look like Larry Fishburne again?
@@stillthakoolest I don't watch his videos that often so I didn't know. I work in a grocery store and I am sometimes curious what they are doing. I have taken shielding off/fans off to defrost the coils. We got alot of compressors. I even know how to reset compressor to get them to temporarily work until they come and fix them.
questions about Evap motors, Checked the fan blade rotation direction, CW and motor is CW, but the air blow like from side out to the freezer instead of going straight forward to the box, is this normal? since some are straight forward some are on the side, please help to explain, I have been try to find out the answer all night
Hey Chris, I like your podcast/social media. I guess some of your customers are checking up on you? I would think that evaporation unit would be ground fault protected? Thank God, our Lord and savior Jesus Christ was not a electrical engineer? Love you buddy, nanoo, nanoo, also happy new year.
some of the burnt junk inside the evaporator screams, that it was in defrost way too long, so both *stuck* time clock and limit/fan switch bad. or idiots in the box with torch cooking the whole "frozen evap" because of no defrost cycle? ( they'd have burn the bottom pan/blackened it) 😒 any scenario, they likely fiddled with it and lack of communication conveying the real issue.
Dude I hate cork tape here in the northeast we see a lot in attics and it’s all melted in the summer and if you have a leak in refrigeration piping it’s near impossible to get off the copper. I did a repair on some cork tape expansion valve it was almost impossible to get that pipe clean, needless to say I did and I evacuated the system to 500 microns and it ended up leaking…idk how but it did
I charge 750 to come out after hours for emergency call and I don't bill, bussiness will for sure rob you of work. I carry all the parts on my truck (very expensive to have 3 of everything) . refrigeration is a money maker. my dad always told me not to teach anyone cause the trade will go down the drain like hvac. I'm 4th generation in my family of low temp and restaurant equipment repair techs. I also do fire suppression system installs when I get referenced for them. I'm my own boss & no shortage of work I also have my regulars. I'm 25 but been around this stuff since I could walk but I'm always learning. my work van is a 2022 ford 350 cargo van doubed turbo extra tall. best work van your ever see for the industry. a lot of people I first meet think I sale drugs cause I'm well off for my age but I just work. I also do a lot of repairs where I'm the 3rd guy out there because hvac/handymen think they know refrigeration or a do-it-yourselfer has done something to make the problem worse.
I don't understand workers in cali like don't they ever take things out the boxes that they need this is just lazy work I see why they need yall so much something blocking something or destroying something
