This video has been the most thorough in explaining the sequence of operation for the defrost cycle. Keep up the good work.

Yes -- this is a "start here" and "refresh here" video for defrost and walk-in coolers/refers. (I think restaurant and store owners lose sleep over their refers quitting and losing $000s on spoiled food.)

Very few guys on RU-vid are good at Explaining thoroughly what is going on in a System,plenty can fix and solve the issue but the actual Explaining of all the Functions and Sequence of Operation of whatever they are working on is True Teaching. It is very rare to find a Super Tech and Teacher in One.Great Job coming from a 63 yr old Tech still working and Learning every single day.

Chris, your explanation of the reason why they have defrost clocks reminded me of when I we a kid and used to unload the delivery truck at McDonald's. The air in the frozen section was so cold that on hot summer days, it would actually snow in front of the trailer door.

Your videos are a godsend. I do facility maintenance and I'm the only guy on my team with HVAC training, but I never learned about medium/low temp stuff. We have about 7-8 walk-ins. The first time I looked at one of the condensing units, I didn't even know what a low pressure control was or did.

I made a bunch of mistakes when I was coming up, I was taught by an old school tech that taught me a bunch of the old school ways, such as beer can cold and we never used a recovery machine. We charged AC's to 275#/65# regardless of the outdoor temp and indoor wet bulb. I always knew something wasn't right about that method but just never challenged authority. Eventually when the internet came about I started reading and realized it was all wrong! But In the middle of all that bad advice I got a bunch of good stuff too. I learned people skills,and sound mechanical troubleshooting skills so I ask myself was it all bad advice????

Watching this video literally helped me finally connect the dots in refrigeration. At the time clock where your explaining 3 is defrost 4 is refrigeration 1 n 2 are your high voltage line and N your neutral and X is defrost termination than explaining the theory behind the limit switches into a light switch concept was very practical. Thank you.
@petermichaelgreen
@petermichaelgreen 3 года назад
Note: the "N" terminal in the unit shown here isn't actually a neutral, it's one of the phases, hence why he is measuring 208V between it and other terminals. I'm no HVAC guy but I presume presume they set it up like this with 208V control circuitry so the refrigeration unit as a whole doesn't need a neutral.

I like how you took your time and did a systematic check of the electrical circuits. Checking for resistance in the terminal wires of the defrost clock, with the power off and then turning the switch gear disconnect back on, and pushing the compressor contactor in that power on the compressor and condenser fan. Basically the compressor and fan are wired in a parallel circuit, by doing this the defrost clock is faulty . You check the condenser fan motor, Commerical Ice boxes have a small defrost clock in them and electric heaters mounted inside the Evaporator coil, I used to work on those units, and to check to see if the unit went into defrost, I would turn the defrost clock wise, and hear a click the compressor and both evaporator and condenser fans will shut off and the unit will go into defrost, leers units and others did not have a fan limited switch and defrost limited switch or a electric heat safe limited switch, but it was easy to service and work on too.
