Thank you for sharing this! I am quite upset to see a lot of Walk In Tub companies are not allowing you to pick your own installer. Although, I finally found one so you don't have to go through the same hunt I did! - Ella's Bubbles

First and foremost your family is blessed to have you and your skills. Thank you for making this video as it has helped me understand the plumbing of these tubs just that much more. I am a renter that basically has to do my own repairs or wait ungodly time to have the repair done and my thermostatic valve has gone out so I'm trying to replace it myself. It's on the wall side of the tub so I can't see much from th small access door inthe front of the tub or the hole of the valve. All in all your video has given me a better outlook on what I'm doing. Thank you!

Jon, how did you decide on the Ella? I'm am trying to figure out which walk in tub to recommend to a client. Factors I have listed, fill time, drain time, curb height, hydro therapy, aero therapy, seat warmer, in line heater, cleaning system, anti-scald, warranty. Your experience and advice are appreciated. Hello, We are installing a walkin safety tub from American standard. The directions do not mention anything about how to hook up the Minute drain. The pump is there , factory installed under the tub, but we cannot find anything about where the other end of the hose goes... So frustrating. Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions ... Thanks :)

Hi Jon, I hope you're still answering questions on this old video. If so, would you kindly know if these can be installed in Europe, especially with respect to electricity? It's 110V in the US, 220V over here, would a step down voltage converter/transformer be enough?
@Jonehughes

The only thing that gets plugged in is the heater and that is just to maintain the temperature I would venture to say you don't need it the same way you don't ever need to reheat your water when you're doing a normal bathtub full of hot water usually you're plenty soaked to the bone before the water ever gets cold so the only thing that needs to be plugged in is the heater and it only cost about a hundred bucks for the heater so if you picked one up from where you live it would cost about the same amount of money and it would plug into your power so I would venture to say there should be no problem If you can get the unit install it enjoy it and if you want to have a heater that uses 220 instead of 110 just order it

What are elec requirements? Why did you say perfect 12 times about the drain? Do you need hot and cold water supply? How do you connect drain to a slab?
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes Год назад
It should have a dedicated 110 volt receptacle of course it doesn't need to be dedicated but they would like it to be said nothing else is using it when it's trying to heat up and maintain the hot water that you installed but it could be hooked up to a near receptacle that's hardly ever used that would be perfectly fine too I was real excited about the double 2 in drains You don't normally you only put a engine and a half drain for a bathtub this requires two 2-in drains that's eventually snake into one and if it can sneak into a 3-in that would be fantastic but usually it snakes into a 2-in that you have to make if you're taking out a bathtub in its place because it only has an inch and a half drain If you're on a slab you just simply have to remove whatever concrete's in the way of allowing you to turn it into a 2-in drain and then connect everything up like you would as if you were not on the slab Yes you want to run hot and cold because this thing could easily be converted to a shower by installing walls and a shower system so you would want to have cold water cuz nobody wants to take pure hot water showers or for that matter nobody wants to have beer hot water in that tub either because you couldn't step into it if it was hot I think the hottest you should use it is whatever hot as you can stand so if your water is hotter than you can stand when you turn on the shower and you try to turn on pure hot then it's too hot to use without cold water

Jon I have an Ella Royal walkin tub and there is a leak where one of the air tubes is connected to the bottom of the tub. What kind of connection is it and how do I tighten it? Thanks for taking the time to prepare your video and for your advice.
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 2 года назад
Hey Brian if you really have a leak there's really no way of fixing it other than pulling it all the way out to be able to get to both sides and then you can just redo it or replace it as you see fit but if you can't do all of that then at least do a super good job with silicone whatever you think might be leaking and hopefully that will do it but if not it needs to be taken completely out and repaired because you can't take off the top ring without losing the bottom if you undid the top ring the bottom will just fall out and then you would be hosed possibly....you could just take off the top and then the bottom.... hopefully ..... would stay in place you could just replace the seal and put it back in and you're good to go but if the bottom does separate and come away so you don't have access to it anymore then you would need to remove the tub all the way to fix it and then put it back in we will hope for the best for you
@brianplazek3043
@brianplazek3043 2 года назад
@@Jonehughes Thanks Jon. The leak is from below the tub. Is it a pressure fit or is it a screw connection? The tub is not installed so I have easy access to the underside of the tub.
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 2 года назад
@@brianplazek3043 they are almost always a screw connection if this is already out like you're saying you should have this out and fixed in no time at all
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 2 года назад
To remove, twist the jet face anti-clockwise to its limit and then one last effort to twist past this point - a click can be felt or heard and the jet face can be extracted by pulling it out. Press Fit - A spring loaded ridge holds the jet face in place. To extract it, lever the jet face outwards until it pops out.

Sorry Jon but I guess I'm not explaining myself very well. On the underside of the tub there are 90 degree adaptors (black plastic) that connects the plastic hoses to the bottom of the tub. Near the ends of these adaptors there are blue rings It is at one of these blue rings that I have leakage. It looks like a compression joint but I don't want to mess with it unless I'm sure. Really appreciate your help.

How much does the drain and P-trap add to the height of the step up into the tub? Or are you not flat out saying that this has to go through the floor, making installation on a slab floor impossible?
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 6 лет назад
kat lopez no it's totally possible in a slab floor it just has to be pre plumbed for it there are double 2-inch drains that end up in a P-trap that then go to a drain and if all that's done ahead of time and it all lines up perfectly and you simply make the connections it is perfectly acceptable on a slab floor just takes a little bit of work get out your jackhammer if it's an existing slab but if you haven't poured the slab yet just plumb it to fit and you'll be fine

Hi Melissa you're not completely out of luck but you're pretty close to it your best bet is just to go generic and not name brand unless you just happen to get lucky and can find parts for your system but normally you have to MacGyver it and figure out what you have and enlarge it or reduce it to whatever you can get to work it's definitely going to be one of those things where you use all your handy Acumen and make it work as a MacGyver situation anyway something like this go to Amazon and start scrolling through Part systems and find something that's close to what you're looking for and make it work Manifold Hot Tub Spa Part 16 3/4" Outlets with Coupler Kit Video How to a.co/d/1dzJHXt

@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 2 года назад
When you're trying to take apart any of those systems no matter what tub it is just remember they put them on as parts and then connect the hoses to the parts with sealant so you're just talking about sealant and parts so you can take it off the same way they put it on the only difference is they have good sealant and sometimes two pieces become one and it's hard to remove so if you can retain the parts that are glued properly together and leave those parts and then just replace the parts that are broken you'll be way better off Think of it like ABS glue on ABS pipes and fittings even if they weren't perfect if you put enough ABS glue on the system they will never ever come apart it will become one the same thing applies here if you find parts that works at all then just use good sealant it'll be perfect and work perfect for you

I would be grateful to anyone who can explain the grounding wire going nowhere. I'm having no luck getting a response from manufacturer. On my tub that grounding wire (green with yellow stripe) is attached to heater metal tube like on yours, and than loosely attached to metal frame of tub near floor. But mine has another same colored wire coming from that frame attachment and it is just loose going nowhere. Warranty states all electrical on tub itself is pre-done and not to be touched or it voids warranty... But warranty also states tub must be properly grounded! There are multiple control boxes and motors etc, and some of them have unused wire connection ports. This thing is total mess and came with absolutely zero electrical guidence. My tub powered on and ran for a minute before shutting off and never starting again. GFCI and breaker box still has power...
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 3 года назад
Hi brother I am assuming you are trying to chase down the grounding wire Because the tub is not running Had it been running the whole time You may have dismissed that grounding wire as just a fluke Or as something for optional equipment that you don't have But since it's not running you think it may have something to do with the grounding wire Because you can't find anything else It's not the grounding wire That would be as simple as finding the power in the box , that presents power to the tub Using a wire nut Put in an additional grounding wire To that wire And that would solve that But it is not going to start your tub There is something else amiss Have no idea what it could be I just gave away one of those tubs for $300 I told them I couldn't figure out why the motor wouldn't start And if I did figure it out, it would cost $2,000 So they came and got it.... as is It saved them hundreds of dollars but I will never know if they actually started it It could be windings in a motor It could be a simple capacitor Or a blown diode Nobody knows that crap Your best bet is just to buy a new motor Or take that motor off and take it to a motor repair company Look underneath alternator repair They do all rewiring for alternators They can figure out what's wrong with that wiring The wounding could be short
@TheWeirdSide1

@@Jonehughes It's brand new under warrenty, and alterations to grounding wire would void warrenty. My customer just spend $5500 so I don't want to void warranty.
@Jonehughes
@Jonehughes 3 года назад
Since it is still under warranty Don't look at it for another minute It's not your job to make it work Your job was simply to give it power The correct power And if you did that You leave it in the manufacturers hands If they won't do anything about it And you've already contacted them Then we're back to what I said And it's up to you Either of those two things are correct Either the manufacturer is going to come over and fix this thing on their dime Or you are going to do what I suggested There's no reason for you to be figuring out any ground wire

Fact is the tub ran for at least a minute without issue(with my wiring in house) so definitely a fault at tub side. I can't even access most of tub electrical now that tub is in place.
