Walking and Driving Downtown Stevens Point, Wisconsin  

I grew up here as a kid in the 1970s and have the best memories! I miss home all the time. 😢

I was born and raised in Stevens Point. I love my hometown. I can’t imagine living anywhere else and I recently bought a beautiful brick house built in the 1920s. Thanks for the kind words about our city 😁

...that house which "look like a castle" was actually nicknamed that by locals. Historically it is known as the Christina Kuhl House which was built in 1886 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. After Inheriting the House in 1932 when her Husband Adam died ,Christina used it as an income property renting out rooms and a couple apartments on the first floor. When I returned to Stevens Point after a year of academic leave, I lived with a couple friends in one of the lower apartments towards the back on the side seen in the video. It was wonderful with high ceilings old Victorian style furniture and steam heat which kept it toasty warm in those cold North Central Wisconsin winters. Apparently a lot has changed since I left in 1980 as there was a another rooming house to just the on the west side of Kuhl House (now gone and turned into a car park), Also gone is "Bob's Food King" which was the neighbourhood grocery mart, and the old Woolworth's (both replaced by an eyesore of a small shopping mall and car park) which were west of the Post Office. The street was also two lanes of traffic westbound before they made it more of a pedestrian oriented area after passing by that ugly midtown mall on the right that took out a number of homes and several other businesses. Interesting, Jim Laabs Music took over the old Citizens National Bank where I had a savings account. Joe's Bar is still there on the Square. The downtown streets are original, arranged as it is to slow traffic down. Our downtown is alive and well, in summer The Square has vendors, the fountain lots events in and near downtown. It is a lovely small city.
