Kontula is a quarter of Helsinki and part of the Mellunkylä neighbourhood. It has population of 13,172 inhabitants. The Helsinki metro was expanded to Kontula in 1986 and now it has daily usage of 20,000 people. Kontula is fascinating suburb with many ethnic bars, restaurant and shops. Over 37% of its population has foreign background.
Mellunmäki is also part of the Mellunkylä neighbourhood with population of 8,500 inhabitants. Mellunmäki metro station is the last stop on the line and its the world's northernmost metro station. The construction of its apartment buildings began in 1968.
Myllypuro is neighbourhood between Itäkeskus and Kontula. It has population of over 10,000. The centre of Myllypuro was renovated around 2010 with more apartment buildings and a new mall.
Itäkeskus ia a quarter and part of the Vartiokylä neighbourhood. It has one of the biggest shopping malls in Nordic countries. Itäkeskus has population of 4,730 and its a major transport hub of metro and bus traffic. Over 38% of its population has foreign background and you can find many ethnic restaurants, bars and shops here.
