Today we went to the center of Hamm and took a video of this beautiful city for you. Although we are in summer, the weather was cloudy and a little cold.
Hamm is an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Westphalian city is located in the north of the administrative district of Arnsberg on the north-eastern edge of the Ruhr area and the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region. Hamm is an important junction of several railway lines. Covering an area of 110 hectares, today's largest disused marshalling and freight yard was one of the largest in Europe.
The city is designated as a medium-sized center by state planning. After several regional reforms, Hamm reached its current size in 1975 and, with over 100,000 inhabitants, the status of a major city. Hamm has approximately 181,000 inhabitants and on December 31, 2022, ranked 44th on the list of the largest cities in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The city is a member of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe, the Regional Association Ruhr and with the Higher Regional Court of Hamm, the seat of the largest German Higher Regional Court.
