I worked in Hajjah, Yemen as a nurse in the late 90’s. I have visited Saadah, Sanaa, Hodeidah and Aden during my stay there. Yemen is beautiful and the people are very friendly and welcoming. They open their houses to guests and are very hospitable. I have many fond memories of Yemen. Sadly it is no longer as it was when i used to live there. I sincerely hope Yemen will attain peace once again and recover its beauty.
In 2016, I was living in Canada in a very large house. The house owner Yemeni soninlaw and her daughter evacuated Yemen and came to Canada. They lived up stairs and us roommates lived down stairs. It was interesting for me to get to know the husband.
the 300 year old substance hostage situation in the united states has us rapidly running out of topsoil and fossil water resources. there has got to be some other socially acceptable way to over through the government; besides african heroin injection prior to, or shortly following, inauguration.
No this shows but you need to get away from these areas and go to the actual war zone where Bin Ladens Brothers are and find them and get them on film see what the place is really like where they are attacking.
I lived and taught in Yemen for 6 years (1989 - 1995) in Sanaa. Of course it was far more open and safe back then…this video brings back lots of memories
I am American and taught ESL English in Saudi in 2012 and my two Yemeni students were The Best in my class for they were mature, serious and took their studies 'to heart'- great young men!!
Most people in Yemen are addicted to a drug called Khat. The Khat trees have been planted on the best farm land. Yemen used to be self-sufficient in food.
@@colindaniels8400 You missed the point, Colin. He was praising the dedication of the Yemeni students vs their Saudi classmates. Their gender is irrelevant to the story.
Im Scottish, now retired, i worked in a global communication industry , some 20 odd years ago i visited Sanna and although there were check points etc i never felt under threat. I met beautiful people in business, travelled into mountains in townships restraunts and the like. I've kept engaged in their circumstances and prayed for their safety and survival. They might be the last of their culture. I visited also many other countries in the region, non touched my heart so much. Something happens when you stand in the soil of different nations, it goes beyond our 5 senses. Thank you, great work, love from Yorkshire England.
Hi, I'm also retired. All my life I have wanted to visit Yemen, and other similar countries. Now, I'm not sure how easy, or safe it is to do so. IM sure I would never go alone, would really like to travel there with someone knowledgeable of the laws, and customs. Maybe Someday.
What if you were female instead, would you still say that? Where were all the women and girls in the video and what does that say about the country as a whole?
@@ChatGPT1111 Well in most Muslim countries, you're discouraged from filming women. In social settings, men don't speak about women and when a women boards a bus in Yemen, men clear a whole bench for a lady just few examples. If you're really curious, you can search for women vloggers who've traveled Yemen just fine. Yemen was one of the first Arab countries to issue a drivers license to a woman back in the 1950s. Yemen itself was ruled by women which is why its called the land of Sheba and Yemeni people are very proud of their history.
@@CACressida are you a woman? Is it men or women who will speak up if a woman is in the path of a lens? I bet it's only ever a 'jealous' man. Why is a woman not answering this instead of you, can't they speak for themselves?
Saw this video and cried. This is the most human thing possible: being resilient even in hard times. Smiling, hoping, dreaming… I hope these children and teenagers can have a peaceful country to live one day. This is a very beautiful country and what makes it even better is the people. This is the first video I’ve come across of yours and already I’m hooked I love the way you speak so kindly about these beautiful people that the world is sheltered from but these are some of the most amazingly strong intelligent humble people you will ever meet they aren’t like you and I
Thank you for the video. I come from Poland and our knowledge of Yemen is very poor. Yet, it seems to be a country with rich and exciting culture and history. I would love to visit Yemen in times of peace, which I hope, will finally be reached.
Much like Poland, it once had a thriving Jewish community that was persecuted and exiled. The Jews of Yemen are says to be the most authentic to ancient Judean practice and customs and they strongly preserve Yemenite Judaism. Jewish exiles of Yemen are the most accessible Yemenites. Though there are no Jews there, it is the most antisemitic society on earth. The less functional a country the more antisemitic.
@AntoinetteTurkle --> Didn't you notice that there are no women visible ?? .. You are a woman. In Yemen, women are not allowed to ride bicycles. .. You need an objective view of Yemen. Your blindness will get you killed.
That boy at 6 minutes is awesome. His English is amazing and his dedication to his studies is nice to see. I hope he succeeds in every area of his life.
@sheepsfoot2 But are these kids from Yemen's official government control territory part? Or the Houthis control part. As far as I am concerned, the Yemen government aren't currently siding with the Houthi which is one of the stupidest name I ever seen in my whole lifetime by the way. How can you win any wars with group name Houthis?
This is gorgeous: I love all the detail, I love how hard you work to learn what it's like for people to live where they live, and you get so much detail in, while showing the broader environment: I keep having to pause and just look at hats, windows, markets, construction details, the towns in their environments. I'm not a traveler at all, I'm delighted to find someone who goes into this level of depth, particularly the human contact.
@@leafarasta4517 It did age well. They are such a wonderful country and people. Despite poverty, they are willing to risk their lives for Palestinians. I would love to visit Yemen as well. Very beautiful country. I pray for peace laughter happiness fun joy relaxation safety freedom and abundance of food and clean water for all animals and people

@@Sumea_Saukko Who are you to talk about something that does not concern you? Ask anyone in Yemen how I fixed many problems. Caring for poor families, I built shelters in Aden and Mukalla, it's not your business to tell me what to do.
Wonderful to watch this video. YES, such hope and resilience. When the name "Yemen" is mentioned on our TV screens, it is always in the context of war, famine, disease, misery. So it is uplifting to see another side of this ancient and fascinating place.
@@Kevin-Schmevin like in most muslim countries men rule the streets and women rule the homes. So men are outside and women are inside most of the time. Its the same in India for example but less. Its the eastern way of "gender equality".
That's because the reality there for most of the backward, repressed, 11th century islamic society is just that context. War, because they can't get along internally, famine, (do you see rain?), disease (the gov. pours money in military and itself), misery, because it is a miserable place to live for most people.
It is just that our tradition sometimes are quite strict when it comes to photograph women. In addition to that, most of the places Mr.Salvino visited were for visitors and mainly for men but if he visited local markets, shopping areas, or schools the majority of the people he will encounter will be women. Despite the unstable political situation in Yemen, believe it or not you actually can visit the island of Socotra. Believe me you will not regret it. All the best, Cheers!! @@jilllangman9343
That was stunning, that was so well done, I am never cease to amaze when we put a face on those whom we are at odds with or vilifying, it shows me the solution is finding a common way to understand our differences and still find ways to live together. I wish blessings for all those seeking to be that conduit of understanding. sonorangreenman in Tucson AZ USA
Thanks so much…we know so little about Yemen. I loved learning about there simply ways and their apparent appreciation for being alive. I wish that people were respected and leave them to live the way they wish. I wish them safety and joy!
Thank you for showing people this part of the world......I believe everyone would benefit from seeing different perspectives and lifestyles from all around the globe
First time to your channeland it will not be my last. I loved your style of talking with the people in Yemen. I am American and have never been to any of these countries so love it when I can do so with someone like you.
WOW, Thank you for such beautiful recording of the people of Yemen. So sad to see that in one section of Yemen people are living in such dire poverty and in other areas as if everything is just OK.
As an Israeli - this video has both put a smile on my face and saddened me. It made me smile because it is another reminder that at our core - we are all human and have much more in common than we have differences. The differences in culture are what makes the world so rich and interesting and require mutual respect. It also saddened me since I realize how much the Yemenis have suffered during the civil war, the war with Saudi Arabia and now - the Houthi attacks and the retaliation attacks from the US and its allies. The poor and weak are always the ones who suffer most and Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the world. If I were to go there (and one can always hope) - I would probably get along very well with most people I meet. We can discuss football, food, culture, life in general. We have quite a few Israelis from Yemeni descent. But if I tell a Yemeni that I am from Israel - well... there things might get tricky. Our leaders today are bringing us to the brink of doom. Tragic and very worrying times.
Believe me, the dispute is not between us as peoples. We are just games in our hands that love to ruin and feed on wars and differences. We are all human beings of different races and valleys, but unfortunately we are just fuel for cannons in wars that will not end in the presence of these demons.
We all got tests from God. But we must remember, that some people may suffer a lot, but may end up better than some of us who have more resources. If you have more, then be grateful to the one true God, and don't be a hypocrite, we all have defects but we must try to purify ourselves. We will all stand alone before God. You won't be questioned by what your government is doing, you won't bear their sins, except what you do with your own hand, or if you support them. I'm a revert to Islam, i always liked the j3ws, of course, i hate some stuff the Talmud says, but the people are not the same, as the Quran says, some among them are true believers, while others are the worst, happens in a lot of groups anyways. I had no idea about your country, I thought it was nice, and only after the latest incidents I knew, I come from Argentina, so our country also did some stuff. To be fair, the land is from God, and all injustice will be erased on Judgement Day anyway, and God puts some in power, by legitimate or not means, to test them. All humans are equal before God in status, no racism whatsoever, except in their deeds and piety. The God of Moses peace be upon him is our God, and we believe Isaiah 42 for instance is fulfilled in Islam, consider this an invitation to check the Taurat and whatnot, tho none forces you. I know you are in a testing ground, and your government is indeed like that of the Pharaoh, and they may do ugly stuff to you if you say stuff, I'm not God to tell you to speak up against a tyrant, we all got less or more faith, but I advise you to remember God often, and to fulfill his will to the best of your ability, and to speak the truth. I appreciate your attitude and comment, and being critical, may God guide us all to the best, shalom.

Here is the weird thing: in the U.S., we hardly let our kids play in the streets anymore without supervision. Why? Because it's not safe. But here are Yemeni kids playing in their neighborhoods. Here is a question for everyone: While Yemen is politically unstable, does it suffer from less crime than America? I am not referring to political crime - I am referring to everyday crimes, such as random mass shooting, that are ravaging America. Does that happen in Yemen?

One thing you're failing to point out is that only males are outside. That says everything about how unsafe it is. If women and girls are confined to their homes due to fear and 'cultural norms' there is something seriously wrong with the culture.
First time visiting your channel. Love your story telling, contact with the people and landscapes, and the way of your editing. You showed us a small piece of a country that is largely shrouded in mystery in the West, where the only impressions we get are of a nation in perpetual conflict and suffering. Perhaps, that's still part of the reality there, but this is also the reality, that there are wonderful people struggling to survive who keep the hope of a better life alive despite their hardships. The human spirit prevails. Thank you for this. Subscribed . . .
Some may think that northern Yemen, which is controlled by the Houthis, is not our security, but I tell you that all of Yemen is safe. What Yemen is doing today is to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza. Yemen is beautiful, despite the refusal of all Arab and Western media to distort Yemen and challenge the history of Yemen that is older than their countries.
Sissy sounds like a female name, so why are you not concerned about the fact that no women or girls were outdoors? And no assumptions about culture bs.
To the Sad Girl named April, this is a 10 min video. Yemeni women are one of the beautiful people on earth and very pious .There are plenty of woman, they go to shops, malls, stores, parks , school The reason why you didn’t see any women in this video is because they weren’t filmed. And culturally they won’t expose their women to strangers and foreigners, without knowing the purpose. Stop looking at these women through your western eyes.
We need more videos like this shown in America. They have done a pretty god job over here of dehumanizing the middles East and Asia. And it’s good to show that they are people with families and beautiful children with dreams and aspirations and even playing

However, there is a specific international conspiracy to keep it in a state of ignorance, poverty, and instability. This kind-hearted people deserve all the goodness and happiness.

I have to say man, well done. I just stumbled across this video and was riveted. I think the problems in the world resolve around us not knowing enough about other cultures.
All the children seemed very happy, and I hope they can remain so. For quite a few years now, I have been very concerned about the amount of devastation being unleashed on them. They deserve to grow up, enjoy their football, and love their families.
