It's funny how people rarely look up. When I was younger I did a lot of parkour, and we could litterally stand on the roof in the middle of the city, and no one would ever see us. Look up!!

London is nearly 2000 years old and has always constantly changed. Some of the older buildings were destroyed in 1941/42 so London will always get a mixture of old and new.
I was in London in 2018 and had tickets to the skygarden at the Walkie Talkie. I remember looking up at the Walkie Talkie and going, wow, I'm going up there!
Thanks for the memories. I enjoy walking in this area a great deal. As an Architect I spend a good amount of time looking up (and running into things) so this perspective is familiar to me 😂. The City of London is rich with a nice variety of styles.
3:07 4:10 10:26 I noticed that London modern architecture has maintained its medieval footprint both on ground level and looking up on an apparently insignificant street, when you notice a single skyscraper far away. This is the modern traduction of what happened centuries ago when you walked narrow streets and finally discovered a Gothic cathedral, that's really fascinating.
Again i love how the new buildings are rebuilt on the same plots of land as the old ones, and still kept the ancient roman and medieval street plan layout, every time i visit the square mile if find it stunning and beautiful.
Relaxed walker [4k] 5:40 is a Richard Rogers building (Lloyd’s of London), opposite is 7:28 Willis Building (Norman Foster), at 11:40 is the Leadenhall Building (Richard Rogers) , 13:42 so call Gherkin is credited to Ken Shuttleworth although he worked for Norman Foster at the time I believe. This is insurance centre of the London with all these buildings' tenants having connections with the global insurance market
There are many beautiful cities in Europe, but London is the great metropolis of all. Its financial district is more impressive than that of Frankfurt or Paris in my opinion.

Most of the world when they build skyscrapers they just care about it individually not giving attention about the surrounding features and the outlook of the whole, London done it well, every thing is connected with each other, they done it with elegance

I love the Perceval sculpture, and the Kindertransport memorial at Liverpool Street, but I'm not a fan of the modern skyscrapers though. Soon the medieval churches are all that will be left of the old city I loved!
I always look forward to your new videos. So soothing to watch and experience. Have you ever done or thought about some walks in Primrose Hill,Belsize Park and Highgate? I rarely hear about those neighborhoods or see very little about them.

These videos of walking in the cities are always very interesting, they show us beautiful urban landscapes and the architecture of each region. When possible, come for a walk in Brazil and make your videos in the city of Belo Horizonte. You are invited. Congratulations on your videos!
Very simple reasons. 1) Buildings over a certain height are forbidden in London by the Civil Aviation Authority. London is the busiest airspace in the world. 2) London is built on clay and has many deep tunnels, NYC mainly uses a shallow "cut and shut" style metro system. 3) London is not competition with "new world" cities to build a tall city centre, it has other interests, arts culture, history etc.
Imagine all those many years back when is it was Londinium and the legions of Rome Lived the best life they could there on the frontier of Greatest empire man has ever known.
London itself wasn't the frontier of Roman Britain. It was the centre of commercial activity for the Roman province of Britannia which quickly became fully integrated within the Roman Empire. The real frontier was in Northern Britain with the building of successive walls, notably Hadrians Wall. Also, the Roman Empire was not the greatest empire in world history. That epithet belongs to the British Empire and it's legacy today in the English speaking world.
