If you send him a card and thank him for taking such great care of the place, that will probably make him feel so proud! He did take impressive care of it!
Right! There are plenty of people who would love to live there. That's really cool! Just some new carpet and you're good to go. I really love the old bathtub 🛁
@@tess9099 There was one in one of the houses I grew up in. I wish I could have taken it with me! You had to add a shower part to it, but I'm a bath person anyways so I didn't mind it just being a bathtub. I remember thinking that it was the coolest thing ever when I was a kid 😄 I'd love to have another one, one of these days!
right!? Could you imagine this as your first apartment right out of High School. Affordable rent, doesn't matter if I paint it or decorate (can't make it worse), turn it into a cozy living space. Heck I want to live there now lol
Sadly, the majority of people follow trends and the trend right now is all the white and grays. Those types of "people" "wouldn't be caught d.ead" in a cute little gome like this.
That's fine and all when you can afford it. But raising someone's rent doesn't make you a bad person. Prices of literally everything goes up constantly. Any landlord who keeps rents the same over many years are just dumb. Why make less money just to " be nice "
@@adammonahan687it does. He basically bought a man and his home 4 years ago. Property shouldn't be business. Maybe more American veterans would be housed if greedy people didn't own 10 apartments.
Dude, it's one old gentleman, it's not like there was kids or a younger person to destroy the place. How is it shocking that he was able to take care of it???
My husband's family owns several rental properties. They also thought they were such great landlords never raising the rent on their tenants. Now we have rentals that haven't been renovated in 40 years and no money to do it because a whole generation didn't actually pull their weight. Rent needs to cover all of the expenses, not just the routine ones.
@@oedhelsetrenas a lifelong rental, I fully expect my rent to go up 3 to 4% every year. If landlords would do this, most people can absorb it, and you can get your money's worth also. Not racing the rent ever? I'm not rich, and I'm not leaving money on the table like that.
@@stacyjaye6350you would need to have that spelled out and pointed out in the agreement. Depending on someone's job 3-4% is a lot. With the company I work for we don't even get a 3% raise every year so you would end up just putting out more money as your raise doesn't cover any increases.
I'm thankful I have good tenants. Their rent is much lower because they have rented from me for years. Turn over is always expensive but it's the best time to update. Maintenance makes all the difference.
@@annawimpey5307 My brother has many rentals in New York and his tenants have been there forever because he has the same concept. Even during the pandemic he didn't have a single issue.
@jmb1666 older generation had to be ENDED to end racism and bigotry and allow women to vote, that military escort for a small black girl to go to school was your generation you pos
Go ask home owners how old their kitchens and baths are. Most do NOT get updated at all, so they look the same as they did in the 1970s or 1980s or whenever they were bought. My aunt had a 30 year old refrigerator that worked great. There's no law saying your house has to look like whatever fad is on sale at Home Depot this week, and neither do apartments have to be updated for no reason. That place looked nice.
Yeah, he calls it an antique then says it's going to get a full remodel. Nice way to treat that antique - totally obliterate everything that makes it an antique.
@@Linda-qp9kp Thats what is happening in my town as well. The older people left shit alone, now the new and young buyers are fucking up the items of the past. They are buying cheap shit from lowes to remodel😂 What a way to fuck up the economy
Keep everything, some retro can be ugly, but this looks classic and has charm, please dont remodel and make it look like every plain remodel these days. Only this I would do is replace the carpet and install tiles or wood flooring
I am 54 (born in 1970) and I'm sure I've seen that kitchen wallpaper somewhere in my childhood. Thanks for easing this gentleman's mind by allowing him to keep paying the $450 rent.
I love the retro look of that kitchen. I would keep the wallpaper and the counters and cabinets. And install a cool white and red linoleum floor and get a nice bright red stove and fridge, OMG a red Smeg in there would be to die for!
@@leeluv96 a brand new red Smeg is actually the same price or cheaper than most full sized stainless steel GE models at Home Depot. They're not overly pricey, they're an average price for a brand new appliance
@@hippiebippie8870 I wouldn't recommend spending 2 to 4k on the type of rental shown here. Not to mention another 3 to 6k on a matching range/stove, even after a renovation of the space. I wouldn't recommend Stainless steel nor SMEG. The highest I would go is maybe a sleek matching black set with convection/microwave oven. Or get the matching dishwasher instead of the microwave if there is an existing hookup for it and no space for the microwave. However, if the tenant brings their own appliances to switch out the rental grade ones, then that would be cool. Some do that, then switch back when they move.
I've been in my unit for almost 9 years. There have been several renovations that my unit has missed because I've been here so long. I'm not ready to move though. I love my apartment and especially my neighborhood. Kind of like this guy, I'm not destructive. I haven't even had my carpet cleaned for several years, because I don't spill anything.
Please get it cleaned, though! You'll be shocked at the amount of dust and dirt the carpet cleaners will pull out of your carpet after nine years! Your apartment will smell so much better, and you will feel and sleep better. I just had my very elderly ( age 92) father's carpets professionally cleaned after only 3 years, and he was pleasantly shocked by the difference!
I’d rather have died than go to a senior home!! You can see he had pride by the fact he kept that place working and nice all those years without replacing anything! I worked in a senior house and it profoundly impacted me! I know what it’s like up close. I will cherish what it put in my heart forever, but I will not forget what it does to people!!
My elderly aunt(RIP) had the exact same wallpaper in her kitchen. Brought back memories of being at her house and seeing random family members and friends
😊 I'm so glad to hear that you put your remodeling and improvement plans on hold So this gentleman could remain in the house that he had lived in for so many years for as long as possible. Thank you for doing that.
My parents had their 1950 kitchen remodeled in 1978. Same laminate counter and back wall, only in bright orange. Same dark cabinets. Similar wallboard, only in browns and blues, and a different print. I remember thinking that the remodel was just beautiful!
Good for you for not raising the rent or kicking the man out. Our seniors have it rough already! Hell we all have it rough. Who can afford the new rent prices?!! People are struggling daily, but people don’t show that online. So strange to me. People only show their best days!
I just went through a very similar situation, except the tenant left the place absolutely filthy when she moved out. She took all her stuff, but every wall, window, baseboard and light switch was grimy. There were nasty food stains on the bedroom carpet, and there were so many cobwebs in the windows and all over the ceilings it looked like a spider factory! Some people just don't mind living in a lot of constant, low-level filth. Lucky you to have someone who actually took care of the place and appreciated it.
Seriously, I would move into that place as it is. The nostalgia of the property is beautiful. I don’t know why everyone feels that upgrading. It makes it better.
Do some good digital photographs or even scans of those different wallpapers. Let me tell you, as someone who LOVES vintage prints, it's amazing to have them recorded. Samples would be even better! You sound like an amazing man. Well done!
