We’re in Prescott’s Historical District today to check out some of the town and it’s history. We’ll check out the courthouse plaza, some historic buildings and take a look at the Sharlot Hall Museum.
Preskitt! Rhymes with Biscuit! I kept watching to see if my husband and I were on video because we are at all of the arts & crafts shows! Love this town, sold our houses in NM to relocate here (but couldn't afford housing in Prescott, thanks to Californication, so we live in nearby Chino Valley.) Beautiful town, friendly people, great weather. But don't move here because we are full, just come to visit, and spend your money, LOL.
It is a beautiful wholesome town. That is why so many people are moving here. We pronounce is Preskitt. Most of the people living there are not from Prescott. Most from other states and many from the Phoenix area that have retired and decided to get out of the rat race of a large city. There was a famous movie scene on the East side of the courthouse. The movie is Billy Jack. It was made around 1971 in the Prescott area, with other scenes right downtown. In the summer there are about 3 concerts a week on the courthouse grounds.
it's great to see there not being much changed building wise.you just can't beat... time standing still,also great to see so many folk out and about enjoying history,the Freemount house was beautiful,the little fort,why were the doors so low ? i couldn't read the sign for light hitting it lol
It had something to do with the weight of the roof on the structure. The walls had to support it so they made doors smaller as to not weaken the building.
Nice video. Prescott, however, is pronounced like "biscuit". Also, you missed another very historic place, The Hassayampa Inn on Gurley Street. It was built in 1927 and has been very well preserved. It even includes one of the first Otis elevators, which is still functioning today. The hotel lobby and interior are beautiful and the bar and restaurant contain many original features. The hotel is fully functional and offers excellent food and entertainment. It is a very popular gathering place for residents and tourists alike. it is located across the street from another historic sight, The Elks Theater. hopefully. you will get to see these amazing places. if you haven't already.
WOW. This is the house of governor Freemont; the mate of Johnny Behan. I am trying to think of which fight scene Dan Davidson (the second comment below mine) is referring to when he said the shot the fight scene from the movie "Billy Jack" on the Court House grass. I loved the Billy Jack films which my then young wife and saw at the Cinema; along with m parents back in about 1972 or 1973. So much history.
