We hope you enjoy this 4k Walking tour of NOTTINGHAM England - What's it like?
Nottingham is a city in Nottinghamshire, England, home of Nottingham University. Part of the East Midlands region, it is 128 miles (206 km) north of London and 45 miles (72 km) north-east of Birmingham.
Some of the highlights of Nottingham are:
Old Market Square
Nottingham Castle
Lace Market
Hockley
Nottingham Trent University
Motorpoint Arena
Nottingham Canal
National Ice Skating centre
Fisher Gate
Castle Wharf
Castle lock
Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle (notably Raleigh bikes) and tobacco industries. It was granted its city charter in 1897, as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a tourist destination; in 2018, the city received the second highest number of overnight visitors in the Midlands and the highest number in the East Midlands.
Nottingham's public transport system has won awards, including the largest publicly owned bus network in England. The city is also served by Nottingham railway station and the modern Nottingham Express Transit tram system.
In October 2015, was named 'Home of English Sport'. The National Ice Centre, Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre and Trent Bridge international cricket ground are all based in or around the city, which is also the home of two professional football teams; the former world's oldest professional league club Notts County and Nottingham Forest, famously two-time winners of the UEFA European Cup under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in 1979 and 1980. The city also has professional rugby, ice hockey and cricket teams, and the Aegon Nottingham Open, an international tennis tournament on the ATP and WTA tours. This accolade came just over a year after Nottingham was named as the UK's first City of Football.
On 11 December 2015, Nottingham was named a "City of Literature" by UNESCO, joining Dublin, Edinburgh, Melbourne and Prague as one of only a handful in the world. The title reflects Nottingham's literary heritage, with Lord Byron, D. H. Lawrence and Alan Sillitoe having links to the city, as well as a contemporary literary community, a publishing industry and a poetry scene.
The city is served by three universities: the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Law; hosting the highest concentration of higher education providers in the East Midlands.
The city was named as one of the "Top 10 Cities to Visit in 2010" by DK Travel. In 2013 it was estimated the city received 247,000 overseas visitors. Nottingham was ranked number one for the ‘Best Value City Break’ in August 2017 by TripAdvisor.
The Robin Hood Pageant takes place in Nottingham each year and has been rebranded Robin Hood Live for 2020. The city is home to the Nottingham Robin Hood Society, founded in 1972 by Jim Lees and Steve and Ewa Theresa West.
Each February Nottingham celebrates Light Night, with dozens of free creative events illuminating the city. The city has also hosted the Nottingham Cave Festival, Nottingham Puppet Festival, The Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity, plus a series of outdoor film and theatre performances at historical locations throughout the summer.

Nice and varied walk through one of my favourite cities. I'm glad you found 'Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem' and Robin Hood's statue.

I was born in Nottingham in 1955 and lived there most of my life until I moved to Spain 20 years ago. Never been back, but sometimes wish I could just quickly beam over just to experience it again, and then beam back to Spain pronto! Your tour was sort of bittersweet - I hardly recognised the place, but was struck by a) the number of trees that have been planted and b) the pedestrianisation. There were no trams when I left, by the way. Of course, all the shops are different. Many thanks for this - it's opened my eyes and played havoc with my memories!
@LivingWalks

Morning @TenCapQuesada, thanks for dropping by. I hope you found this as close to a 'quickly beam over' as poss'? Interesting to hear that you hardly recognised it. It's good to hear that the changes you mention have been for the better though, with new trees having been planted, pedestrianisation and the trams! Hope life's going well for you in Spain? We'll be spending a lot more time in Madeira and it'll be curious to know how it will take us when we do return to the UK. All the best to you.

It always seems strange when I see trams in a British city. But so many of our cities had them in the 1800s

I'm from Nottingham and it is a nice city to visit for sure. Personally I think the city centre was much better and thriving in the 80s and 90s. When I left Nottingham and lived in other cities like neighbouring Leicester, Birmingham, Coventry and 10 years in London, I did miss my home city so I came back but I have seen a drastic change for the worse. However, it is still a wonderful city for tourists to visit. I have travelled to over 30-odd countries and seen some amazing things but home is home

I'd loved to have seen the city centre in the 80s and 90s. How very sad to hear you have seen a drastic change for the worse, so many city centres that were booming then are suffering now aren't they. It's interesting to hear that you have travelled to over 30-odd countries and seen some amazing things but still feel a soft spot for 'home'.

Hello, back in England once again I see :) Mmm, Nottingham, I admit, it was never a favourite city for me. I seem to recall that I felt ( and probably still do ) that if it weren't for the various churches, the centre would be completely devoid of green !!!!! Had to visit an aunt there fairly regularly during my college years, but always felt great relief when returning to Oxford. No disrespect to any locals who may view this, just my honest opinion, which may not be the best opinion - but there it is :) Thanks for walk - top shelf as always !!!!!!!
@LivingWalks
@LivingWalks Год назад
Hello again Mr T, yes, back in blighty for a bit indeed. Well we were very pleasantly surprised by Nottingham, but I do admit to there being a bit of absence of green. I think your beloved Oxford had and still has a special place in your heart. Which I can quite understand.

Don;t let this video fool you. Nottingham has become a very depressed, depressing dump. The last 10 years have changed the city beyond all recognition and it's heritage has gone. This is a quaint little stroll on a weekday morning..Come back in the afternoon of a Saturday. The place is horrible. Heart breaking actually.

True..Notice how the walk never continued much past Marks & Spencer for instance? Only a few of the old, architecturally interesting narrow streets, then a quick U turn..Carry on down Hockey another 50 years and you get to Emmanuel House, a hostel full of druggies and down-and-outs, or over the road into Sneinton and St.Annes...Welcome to Shottingham.
