more than half the people who watches Shohei Ohtani's videos arent even baseball fans including myself. He doesnt represent Dodgers only. He represents BASEBALL.
You must be horrible with your finances trying to justify what they pay him. He's an amazing player with beautful moments for the team but it's a Ludacris amount of money
However, because Ohtani has deferred 97% of his salary for ten years, his contract comes out to $46 million per year for 10 years in present-day value.
I still remember the moment when Dodgers signed Shohei, and announced the 700M contract. There are many people criticizing the decision by saying overhyped, overpriced, no one should get paid that much, etc, then continue on hating him for whatever reason. I'm not a baseball fan, but I have to say that I believe he has consistently proven that he really deserve and worthy to be the highest paid athlete in MLB history
And I remind people the Dodgers are only paying him 46M/yr and only 28M of it hits the team cap! Crazy no For reference, Kris Bryant makes 28M. Bryce Harper too. As for 46M, it’s the highest in MLB. Judge makes 40M.
Tied score 3-3, Bottom of the 9th, bases loaded with 2 outs, last hitter up, what a perfect conditions. Shohei reached 40 stolen bases earlier in the game and now have a walk-off Home Run Grand Slam on his 40HR-40SB! This is what dreams are made of! Incredible, SHOHEI OHTANI! G.O.A.T!
@@sigerlion8608 I'd have jumped in the air, onto the pitch, whatever necessary to get that ball. The guys were just lazy and didn't try hard enough. 😂 People fight over a regular home run ball by a nobody hitter and these guys were just waiting for the once in a lifetime ball to land on their lap 😂
@@allenl9214 Just saw a news clip "Man recalls catching Ohtani’s historic 40/40 home run ball" The Rays centerfielder tossed the ball into the stands after and a fan now has it. The news anchors said it could be worth millions one day. Lucky guy.
Let's also NOT forget, that 4 of the other 5 members of that 40-40 club were confirmed Steroid users. They were also playing in the era where expansion teams came into the league and diluted the talent pool. Lots of the HR that Bond, Canseco, Soreano, and Alex Rodriguez were getting, were in smaller stadiums, with AAA and AA pitchers like Dennis Tankersly throwing to them. Those minor league pitchers that they fed off also had less control of the basepaths, making it easier to steal. IMO, Shohei's 40-40 and Acuna's 40-40 seasons are the only 2 that really count. They had to face consistent 100MPH pitching with pinpoint control and that's a whole different ball game.
@@craigwheeler4760that’s actually insane to think about, even more crazy is that the first 2 “40-40” clubs without steroids were literally in back to back seasons
This guy just achieved probably one of the rarest accomplishments we’ll ever see in baseball, the walk off grand slam to join the 40-40 club. There is only one member of this club and there will probably only be one until the end of time, and it couldn’t be more perfect. Shohei is not the face of baseball anymore, he IS baseball
He really is a freak. Everytime I think I've seen him do it all he takes it to the next level somehow. If you would have told me he will have 40+ steals before the season started I would have said you're trippin'. But he's deceivingly fast and also an intelligent baserunner.
The best baseball player in the galaxy. I'm so excited that I can't sleep today. Thank you baseball, thank you MLB, thank you Dodgers, and congratulations to Shohei Ohtani.
I see a lot of people saying it’s easier to steal base today, but why didn’t Judge or anyone else do it? Speed is still king, but also getting on base to make the steal. Stop with the excuses what Ohtani has done, he is him.
It's a walk-off grand slam that blew away all the criticism that hes no clutch or far from the RBI leader, or couldn't hit multiple hits. Hes blessed by God so that achieves the fastest 40-40 in the first game of the series. The scene where all the fans stood up and rised both of their hands gets me excited no matter how many times I see.
"he's not the RBI leader" is such a stupid argument. He's been batting 1st or 2nd in the lineup. I think Dave Roberts is an idiot for not batting Shohei 4th. He'd have like 150 rbi.
Yup, his speed is why he’s lead off. Also, being lead off hitter he’s guaranteed to get the most at bats than anyone else like tonight. If he was in the 2,3,4 spot he wouldn’t have came up and the dodgers either win or we go to extra innings and who knows how it would of ended, but I like him leading off. Dodgers have plenty of heavy hitters coming up after him to bring in runs too so it balances out.
It was the same when he struck out Trout in the wBC final and clinched the championship for Japan. Shohei Otani has the talent to create scenes where he becomes the main character of an anime
Shohei was and always is a good speaker. I have watched many of his interviews and documentaries and the way he approached things was always intelligent, respectful, and humble. His mindset is always towards winning. I think the only flaw he has is the he loves baseball too much and so he pushes himself too hard.
@@コロネ_7 ? ? ? Explain to me why he's the GOAT. 45 career WAR Career high of 9.9 including his pitching He's pitched 86 games in 7 years He's a .280 career hitter He's got less than 250 career HRs Less than 1000 career RBIs Less than 1000 career hits Less than 1000 career runs Less than 1000 career strikeouts as a pitcher What about him makes him the GOAT? That he's having a great run right now?
@@jaredhettler8572 So in your opinion, the players who play the longest and have the best grades over their lifetime are the greatest? I believe it's a collection of annual results: ....
Showtime you shut all them haters up!!! An injured pitcher recovering from TJ and is 2nd in HR and 2nd in stolen bases but the 6 player to the 40/40 club; he’s a pitcher folks and still injured!!! God sent him to change the way humanity thinks and that anyone and any race can change change and make history!!! The unicorn 🦄 Goatani!!!! 700mil was well worth it!!!
We are living in the Ohtani era, and I feel like Im living heaven on earth watching the Goat play 🐐 If this is a dream don't wake me, Im on cloud nine!
Shohei Ohtani....just another page in his spectacular history book. 40-40. He's only the 6th player in MLB history to achieve it, and the 1st Dodger to do so. He is truly the greatest baseball player I've ever seen. A generational talent. A true unicorn! 🦄 MVP! MVP! MVP!
@@bertronix182 It's honestly hard to say which one is more difficult, SB's require more steps and more factors, but HR's are obviously harder to achieve than SB's straight up, and certainly two HR's in a game is harder to achieve than 2 SB's in a game. I would personally say HR's are still harder. Either way, he's well on track for both.
I envy Dodgers fans. Because they have a baseball god on their team, they can see scenarios that even movies can't make, and everyone can get excited. From now on, 40/40 will probably never be achieved with a walk-off grand slam home run again. He is a ray of light in these days when baseball is not very popular. He is baseball itself.
I was at the Anaheim stadium last year and witnessed his HR and one of his most devastating moments, which was his injury led to the surgery. A year later, the season with so much noise at the beginning in the new environment, he did 40-40 on the exact same day, today. What a revenge. I am around same age as him and also grew up in jp as a japanese american for 20+ years. I will be transferring to ucla this fall from a local cc. I have anxieties to be successful in a new environment, but I determined to crush any obstacles in front of me no matter what after watching this hr. This dude is just insane.
Anyone who says Shohei Ohtani is not the face of baseball when he can hit 40/40 in his TJ rehab year and was the best pitcher by WAR and ERA from '21-'23 is either blind or insane.
Shohei Ohtani will be a first ballot Hall of Famer once his playing days are over. This Guy is making history everytime he's at the Plate or on the Mound. Simply an incredible talent Shohei Ohtani is.
He has NOWHERE NEAR the resume to be considered a hall of famer. And if you project his numbers he'll be on the cusp....maybe. stop just saying s#it because you're jocking
he's also single-handedly brought old fans back to the game. they may stay for other players or teams, but there's a TON of people who saw ohtani highlights and got back into it because of him.
Can't believe I'm alive to see the greatest baseball player in history play the game in real time. If you're a fan of baseball, we're in a very special time right now. Judge already has 49 homers this season, and these guys are all doing it without being roided out of their minds. Proud time for baseball.
There are no words, descriptive or otherwise, that do justice to the generational talent that is Shohei Ohtani. Even as a Mariners fan thankful he's out of our division, I must admit to feeling privileged to be alive at the same time that this man is in his prime. Congratulations on joining the 40-40 club, Shohei--and here's hoping to many more record book-shredding accomplishments in the future.
If Ohtani can get 50 HRs and 50 SBs that's much more historic and memorable than when Judge hit 62 because there's been player's that hit over 60 home runs five times but never 50-50 would be historic first and might never happen again, we are watching history!
He is the first and last rehabbing pitcher to reach 40 stolen bases and 40 home runs. And today I saw Shohei's game at Dodger Stadium for the first time!
And? Bonds is the first black guy to do it , arod is the first Latino to do it soriano is the first where English isn't his first language......in short who gives a f_ _k. That's irrelevant
Shohei is the main character fr!! THE GOAT. I mean are you kidding me?? A WALK OFF, GRAND SLAM, to enter the exclusive 40/40 club, stealing the 40th base and blasting the 40th homer in the SAME GAME to become the fastest player to ever do it. Truly Unbelievable!!
@@arthurau9231 RBIs are a lot (a LOT) easier to get than hr's or stolen bases, which take much more skill. you can make a sacrifice pop fly and get an rbi. you can bunt and be out, but get an rbi. theyre important, but compared to SB's or HRs theyre not as impressive or flashy.
Like I said many times before, Shohei Ohtani is the GREATEST BASEBALL PLAYER EVER!!!! Just respect this man and appreciate that you get to see him play in real time!!!!
40/40 on the same night is something special and the fact he hit his 40th home run that was a grand slam can't write this story any better. Congrats OHTANI #Mvp #DodgersLoveAlways
LAD owners have Ohtani/Dodgers, if he gets 50:50 in Playoffs/WS, he gets fat shares in Guggenheim. And have Disney make an Ohtani exhibit in Disneyland.
The record of 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases was achieved with the score tied and the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The people who watched this game at the stadium were so lucky. Congratulations to Shohei.🎉🎊 And I feel sorry for the guy who missed out on that historic home run ball. 0:49😭
Love to see Ohtani enjoying baseball and winning, 2:49. Can't wait to see what he can Sho us come postseason
Ohtani is such an unreal player. First 40-40 season in Dodgers history and it in his first season with the team. Absolutely unreal accomplishment for Ohtani.
@@joelrojas1236 For real,For me who only knows Baseball from watching movies and doesn't know the rules other than hitting and catching the ball,Now follow him and learn about baseball. The funny thing is I've been following him since he was on the cover of MLB the show Video game and eventually became curious about him😂
Dude, the translator missed a very big part. For those that missed it, Shohei has mentioned this has been probably the biggest highlight since joining the Dodgers. SMH, how can you miss such important part.
Shohei is the best baseball player (probably one of the best athletes we've ever seen) on this planet so he deserves the best interpreter. He's not a proffesional interpreter by the way (he was just a dodger's staff who has studied and spoke Japanese) and he misses a lot of important details, and it happenes a lot... his Japanese is obviously not at native level. Come on Dodgers, hire the best "professional" interpreter so fans can know and understand what he has really been sayimg. This interpreter is not a pro. I speak both Japanese (naitive) and English (BS degree earned & lived in the states for 15 yrs. uses ENG a lot in biz.) and has been in many meetings with, from top executives to technicians at site or in the lab and did a lot of interpreter tasks, and used professional interpreters in many occasions so I've seen many pros, but this guy's level is really poor as an interpreter in any biz. situation. I heard he is a good guy but I have to fire him if he was in my company,, kind of level, unfortunately...
@@rafaelkennedy2414 And yet, your writing was extremely difficult to parse and understand, even as a native English speaker. And you had time to plan and write what you're saying, rather than trying to spontaneously translate from one language to another at breakneck speed on national television. While I agree that translators should strive for 100% meaning-for-meaning translation whenever possible, some languages don't have great correspondence between each other. English and Japanese have that difficulty with many concepts, some of which under discussion in this interaction. Also, if we're going to critique translation and translators, let's critique the idiotic reporter for also bringing the translator into the interaction. That's a huge no-no; working with someone who has a translator, you're still supposed to engage with the actual person; you don't actually engage with the translator directly. Maybe that also played a role in his nervousness.
