In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 5.5 mile circular walk from the village of Askerswell which is located about 4 miles East of Bridport & 10 miles West of Dorchester. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I started my walk at the Spyway Inn, which can be found at Spyway, (just to the North of Askerswell), and headed South to explore the village.
After visiting the church, I headed Eastwards along footpaths in fields, basically following closely the course of the River Asker.
Passing by Nallers Farm, I reached Stancombe Farm at which point I started my climb, Northwards, up on to Haydon Down.
I soon spotted Eggardon Hill and changed direction (Westwards , towards it) as I wanted to explore the iron age hill fort that is located on the top. There were some stunning views across the rolling Dorset landscape to enjoy as well as a sighting of the sea to the South.
My homeward leg took me through North Eggardon Farm & South Eggardon Farm, back to my final destination - The Spyway Inn.
