I am out in the countryside again and this time I seek the gibbet of Jack Upperton, a rouge labourer from Sussex who robbed the mail and was hanged for the crime.
Please support me so I can do more walks and vlogs. Check out / richardvobes
I film with a Gopro and Zyiun Smooth 3 Gimbal.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Vlog thank you so much for sharing. I hadn’t realised. (Foolishly) that Gibbets were a thing that had been etched in our history and that we could still see where they had been. Absolutely fascinating. Your video came up on my feed so I’m looking forward as a new subscriber to catching up and following along. 😊

Nice little historical anecdote, Mr.Vobes. Justice was served, to such ne'erdowells, back in the day. I'd say, for more recent crimes against the citizenry, such penalties would be the very least to be served.

This was interesting Richard, near where I live is the stump of tree where men were hung outside the boundary of Pevensey, its always been known as the old hang mans tree. On the stump is carved the initials of the man who chopped it down in 1970.

Such a secure place England is!! If this empty place was in Bangladesh, you could not have taken even a walk. There would be drug addicts, village bad people, unemployed goons & also rapists

Thank you that looked like a interesting walk with a nice peace of local history it seems a shame in some ways that it wasn’t marked at the start of your ramble so people like myself who is always interested in walks with a bit of history behind them so much appreciated and to be honest I wasn’t sure what I was going to see at the end if anything so thank you for an entertaining 15 minutes :)

Must have been very windy on the day "Your Jack" was set upon his gibbet. Perhaps his lost soul was walking with you in remembrance with such a strong breeze.

Good morning Richard thanks for the video. Yes that's the Gibbit I ment and as I say I have looked for it on many occasions and have never found it. A very respected teacher took us there when we were at school so it has a bubble meaning really. Thank you very much for taking the time it much appreciated. Keith

Was the gibbet not hung on a tree?
@RichardVobes
@RichardVobes 3 года назад
The area was clear from trees, most likely and the body was meant to be seen from afar, as a warming - so probably hung on a post.

If you do decide to keep it , may I suggest you save clips of 'How-do-we-get-back?' moments so that in the future you put a video together with all of those. It could have a map with ever more twisted dotted lines going everywhere and some music. Just an idea.
@JulioTijuana01
@JulioTijuana01 7 лет назад
Heres another idea , you could write a book titled "How do we get back?" about your experiences filming this type of videos. Chapters could include: What do you need? - Where to go? - What's the weather? - Do I need to ask permission? - Bring a friend - Keeping safe - etc.
@RichardVobes
