Can it detect plastic hollow pipe in brick walls or concrete walls

Must the water be flowing for it to detect?

can this device detect a drainage pvc pipe behind a wall (e.g. measure while drain water), OR can it detect a PVC pipe behind a wall if insert an electric wire into the pipe (without electricity)?
