Heyo! Mitch and Day here 👋🏼
We’re just your typical American-Colombian couple determined to live every second of our precious time here on earth to the fullest. After a 10-month solo backpacking trip through South America, I (Mitch) stopped in Cali, Colombia to take salsa dancing classes 💃🏻. I only planned to stay for a couple weeks, but God had other plans for me. I met a cute Colombian girl (Day) in class, those couple weeks turned into a couple years, and before we knew it...we were married 👰🏻🤵🏼
Now we’re traveling the world full time as digital nomads, supporting ourselves by working online 👨‍💻👩‍💻
Our goal with these videos is to inspire you to step outside your comfort zone, give you an inside peek at our crazy imperfect lives, and show you that you don’t have to be rich to live an extraordinary life...all you need to do is make the choice!

Remember to tell your credit card company beforehand that you will be abroad. Bank of America locked me out of my card because they thought my Guatemala transactions were fraud. They have also flagged my Fort Lauderdale transactions as fraud as well.

Wow that’s a good tip! I haven’t had to do that with my cards in the past few years, but it sounds like it depends on the bank, so that’s very good to know!

Yes, I live in Australia and here the banking apps usually have the option to set up overseas trips and even configure amount limits.

At numerous airports in the world I have contacted people that corrected missed flights. Always the same. Put $200 in a magazine and leave it in the bathroom. Each time getting the next flight and upgraded to Business or First Class. No American Travel Insurance has ever helped, and usually takes 3 months to deny the claim. And I only book with the airlines where the insurance and rights are direct at the counter, not with some wise ass in Seattle or Vancouver. Neither do I fly on US based airlines or Boeing aircraft especially 737 MAX. Booked through brick and mortar travel agencies, in many countries I get a 50% Pensionado, over 60 discount.

When I use an ATM. I never convert. ATM exchange rates are worse. I've save money checking no.

I'll always remember my first time abroad, and I'm sad to say I used the currency exchange places. Needless to say, I've used Schwab ever since! And I like the eSim videos (but I'm interested in the US Mobile you mentioned).

Haha no worries, I also used them my first time abroad until I realized there were better options! And yeah US Mobile has made life much easier for me, I’m excited to test their other plans as well!

Really nice trick that WiFi calling to at least be able to receive SMS without it costing an arm and a leg! I still have to double check that my phone company doesn't charge for it, but if not wow. (and even if they do, I bet it will be much cheaper than their insane roaming fees anyway)

I checked the links to your card,but being a Dane living ib Spain,I dont know about these US cards..I wonder why you dont mention card like Revolut and Wise,which most of my International frineds,and me use, they allow you to take out 200€/month with no fee,on their free version,and allow you to pay in whichever currency you choose,plus their exchange rate is really good,instant top up from your bank card and instant transfers to others for no fee,do the card you mention do the same?

SO good to know about US Mobile! As a Canadian I obviously can't use it, but I'm asked all the time about a US plan that allows people to receive verification texts. Question: if you don't have WiFi or data in a given moment (let's say you're out of range), does the text arrive when you get back to a place where you reconnect? Also, do calls just show up as missed calls?
@ProjectUntethered
@ProjectUntethered 8 месяцев назад
That’s actually a really great question. Texts do come through when you reconnect, but I’m not 100% sure on calls. Since I have the cheapest plan mainly meant for just receiving codes, this isn’t the line I normally give out to family and friends (not like anyone calls me anyway when on opposite time zones 😅). I tried sending myself a bank code SMS with airplane mode on, and it came through when I reconnected. But when I tried choosing the option for the bank to call me to give me the code (with airplane mode on), it didn’t show a missed call when I reconnected. Normally I have connection whenever I’m requesting a code, so this hasn’t been a problem. But I’d have to do further testing to see what happens if a friend calls while I’m offline!
@usmobile1
@usmobile1 8 месяцев назад
@@ProjectUntetheredYou're spot on with your testing results. Since SMS messages go through the SMSC (Short Message Service Center), they are temporarily stored, routed, and eventually forwarded upon reconnection. However, calls operate differently. And with no such process in place, you just simply miss them.
@NoraDunn
@NoraDunn 8 месяцев назад
@@ProjectUntethered I think you're right - if it's a code you need you'll be connected to WiFi/data, but it's also good to know that missed calls won't likely register. Thanks for indulging me in this experiment!

I have yet to have any travel insurance company based in the US to pay for a claim of any type. Lost luggage Denied. Missed flight from Covid requirements Denied. Police that screwed me up in Miami by denying me entry to the terminal for a International flight without a boarding pass only given inside the terminal-Denied. Nope! Getting travel insurance from a US Company is a total waste of money and false sense of security. This the experience of a 76 year old traveler who has been to 108 countries age 19 to present.

I always get my currency from my bank before i fly international. I have what i need when i get there. They have always given me a good exchange rate
@ProjectUntethered

As long as you’re getting a good exchange rate, that’s all that matters! This is a bit trickier on longer trip when you’re visiting multiple countries though.

@ProjectUntethered
@ProjectUntethered 8 месяцев назад
Not a scam at all. Oftentimes people who leave bad reviews are people who try to make claims for things that aren’t covered because they didn’t read the coverage details before signing up.
