Even if the giant fish are passed their prime spawning age, i still think it's awesome to throw them back. Knowing that there's a monster somewhere out there is part of the reason i love fishing. It's not necessarily about everyone going out to try to catch the new world record,, it's the idea that there's a chance that you could on any given day. Fish stories of giants are what got me into fishing, and i think everyone should at least have an opportunity to catch a giant, by keeping the giants in the lake. Just my opinion.

Ok so my dad has a underwater camera that we use for ice fishing, it is called a “C-fish r1” and it seems like we can never catch northern or walleye with it, I remember trying to figure out why. I put my ear up to it and I could hear a very faint sound coming from it. My question is could the vibrations or sound coming from it scare the walleye and northern? We have caught pan fish with it before so it obviously doesn’t effect them but we just don’t seem to have luck with walleye and pike. Any thoughts?

I am a dad of an 8 year old boy. Never went fishing myself. My son has gone a few times at the doc of resort we visit often. He enjoys it. Normally he is just to active to sit still but he enjoys fishing. Now I see thus as an opportunity to help him and something we can both enjoy together. I like your video. But a bit difficult to follow the "fishing language". Learned a lot about how to read a fishing rod. So now the basic question. What type of finding rod is best for lake rosseau in Muskoka area of Ontario. Is it cast fishing rod with high sensitivity?

Great things man! I feel the same way about people taking trophy bucks and elk. Best way I can think of to breed smaller and smaller game. There's a reason ranchers don't eat their prize bull. Not to mention the young ones taste better!

Walleye do taste good. I kept 1 last year and 1 this year. After catching dozens and dozens. I don't even like fish. It's a beautiful white flesh. Might as well be cod or halibut almost.

I caught 147 fish yesterday between me and two others between 7am and 3pm. All walleye except for 3 pike.

Natural bait is a must. I've tried with walleye. M Real frozen minnows work better than cheese or pepperoni.

Nothing wrong with keeping a trophy fish . keeping more fish than you need is the wro g thing to do in my opinon!
@HitchinHobo
@HitchinHobo 9 лет назад
Johnny Minks Trophy fish, is fish you don't need to keep (ergo "trophy" i.e, not food). You don't want to eat bigger fish generally anyhow, so might as well leave the bigger genetics in the lake
@johnnyminks5099
@johnnyminks5099 9 лет назад
You want to keep a big fish nothing wrong with that if you choose. I have a large mouth mount 9lb now throw back anything under 9 back. Keep small fish to eat. Your choice.

nice vid! zander is much like walleye. see my videos for some (big) zander. and yes.. i agree to.. let the big ones go.. they produce many.. many... siblings..

Actually, large fish have already contributed much of what they will to the "gene pool" - keeping a large fish imho isn't a huge deal. Just don't keep more than your legal limit. Fish and Game officials generally know how to keep things in check if anglers will do their part and not break the limits/laws. my .02

Owl Jones why would you kill a trophy fish thats gonna be riddled with toxins and taste like shit? your phone doesnt have a camera on it? why wouldn't you want to give someone else a chance at it? or give it a chance to get to a record size? hard to believe some attitudes of so called "sportsman". who are really just meat fisherman.
@keriwilliams8980
@keriwilliams8980 4 года назад
You have the right to keep any fish taken within your league rights. However most fishermen today are sportsmen first. That means first to be educated about what you pursue. Second you probably have and use equipment never before available to give you an advantage of many time over your quarry. Where is your personal ethics and even personal self interest in acting in such a manner as to perpetuate and even increase the enjoyment of your pursuit? I personally enjoy seeing a pic of a big fish much more than killing it. I'm a good enough fisherman that I'm totally confident in my ability to go out tomorrow and catch plenty of small fish to beat. But that's just me

I’m an avid walleye fisherman and have been for a while, this man claims to have caught a 25lb walleye???? I cannot believe that. That would be an igfa record, I know there is many unconfirmed records out there but seriously a 25lb walleye in Texas????

The biggest fish produce the most eggs to keep the population healthy and large. Keep the good eaters, don't keep more than you should.

The prime spawners are females in the 20" to 26" size range. Walleye in the 10 pound range are past their prime and their eggs aren't as viable. Walleye are cannibalistic and will eat their own fry. Removing 10+ pound walleye from the system will not harm the fishery. Properly prepared large walleye are just as good to eat as the smaller fish.
@theunluckyfisherman4845
@theunluckyfisherman4845 7 лет назад
It won't harm the fishery but it'll ruin your chances of catching giants. Older walleye typically have been in the system for a while and can sometimes hold more contaminants/foul taste than the younger ones, depending on where you live. I know this is an old comment but i can't let it slide if people are going to believe you.
@rafaelpinto4008
@rafaelpinto4008 9 лет назад
By encouraging anglers to keep the smaller ones just to have a small chance at a meaningless record takes up more fish and cripples as much the population as removing an older specimen whose descendance have already spawned on various previous springs. Since the species is invasive anyways and the impact is the same or greater in consuming the younger ones, from a humanitary prespective, it seems reasonable that killing one fish of age is more justifiable than multiple casualties. Just let go of your ego and fish to enjoy every catch. Savour every bite, every loss, every stepback that comes your way. Records are just unreal expectations from a sport which is selfsatisfying and unique like this one
@cloroxbleach5359
@cloroxbleach5359 8 лет назад
I know this reply is really late, but for anybody else listening, letting the big ones back is beneficial to the gene pool. They have some traits that let them survive that long and get that big, so they should pass on those genes, instead of a little skimpy fish that won't get very big or have very good offspring.

@theunluckyfisherman4845
@theunluckyfisherman4845 7 лет назад
What a terrible comment. Do you fish? There's no better feeling in fishing than having all your efforts pay off on a giant fish. They are usually harder to catch and take a very long time to get that big. Your argument about unreal expectations could be said about any sport, but that's not going to stop people from trying. It is about savouring every moment of fishing, even the setbacks, but also toward striving to be better, and catch more/bigger fish. Also, the impact of taking a bigger fish out of the system is not the same as taking multiple small ones. Hopefully no one read your comment and agreed.
